Chapter 1: Savior

Chapter Text

“So, where we headed today?!” Eijirou Kirishima asked his mentor excitedly while clenching his fists in anticipation.

The big, pro hero called Fatgum looked down at his intern, “We’re just patrolling around, there’s no rush!” He scooped another takoyaki in his mouth from the big plate he held in his hands.

“I hope we find some villains so I can show off my manly side!” Kirishima said excitedly, punching his fists together while activating his hardening quirk, making a loud sound as they made contact. He looked over to his other partner that night, “How about you, Senpai?”

Tamaki Amajiki, his senior, could only pull down the hood of his hero outfit shyly, “Don’t call me out so suddenly…”

Kirishima only laughed at his fellow intern’s behavior. Currently, Kirishima and Amajiki were working under Fatgum, a pro hero with a name that matched his appearance. They were walking through the city streets, looking out for danger, whether it be villains or just someone in need of help. When it came to the small things, they sent Kirishima to do the work, which he didn’t mind at all. So far tonight, he’s gotten to help an elderly person cross the road, got a cat out of a tree, and fixed a little girl’s broken jump rope. He enjoyed every bit of helping others, he really did, but Kirishima was ready to face something more. He wanted to help fight villains and show what he’s really made of!

And then it was like his prayers were answered, because that’s when he heard it—a scream.

“Villain?!” Kirishima only half asked, as he looked to Fatgum.

“I dunno,” Fat said, a serious demeanor overtaking him as he downed the rest of his food in one gulp. “Let’s find out!”

The three rushed to the scene to see a group of villains smashing cars and windows with bats and crowbars, laughing manically all the while.

“Stop, hooligans!” Fat cried, pointing a finger in their direction.

“Make us!” One of the villains stuck their tongue out.

“Red Riot! Suneater!” Fat yelled Kirishima and Amajiki’s hero names, respectively, without looking at them. “You two know what to do.”

“On it!” Kirishima grinned as he activated his quirk through his arms, making the limbs as tough as he could.

There were three villains in total, so they each went after one. The one Kirishima went after was hooded with a hockey mask on. The guy swung his bat towards the red head, but Kirishima put up one of his arms defensively. Once the object came in contact with his hardened skin, it broke right in half. The villain looked completely stunned.

“What the?!” He stared wide eyed at the up-and-coming hero in front of him. Kirishima only smirked and went in for a punch to the face. The villain got lucky and was able to dodge backwards in time.

The hoodlum snarled at the opponent in front of him, “You little! You’ll pay for that!” Suddenly, the ground beneath them started shaking.

“What?!” Kirishima looked around, trying to figure out what was happening.

“You idiot!” One of the other villains cried, trying to defend his own against Amajiki, and not doing a very good job at it. “You can’t use your earthquake quirk here! There are buildings, man! We’ll get crushed, too!”

“Ah!” The man jumped in place, startled by the information from his teammate. “You’re right!” But it was already too late. Buildings, streetlights, traffic lights—all were shaking uncontrollably. Things were starting to fall.

Fatgum wasted no time, “Suneater! Red Riot! Protect the citizens!”

“You don’t have to tell me twice!” Kirishima yelled as he quickly guided people out of the way with his partner. Breaking large pieces of falling debris and pushing people out of the way, he was able to save everyone from any major injuries.

Suddenly, he heard a scream. The red head turned around to see a building starting to fall and a girl collapsed on the ground underneath it. Did she trip?! Why wasn’t she getting out of the way?!

His body moved on its own. He ran as fast as he could to the scene. He knew he wouldn’t have enough time to get her and clear the area before it fell, so he did the next best thing—use his body to protect hers.

He dove towards her just as the chunks of building were mere feet away from hitting. He enveloped her body with his, tucking it underneath him the best that he could, and activated his quirk throughout his entire core.

The sound of the crashing building around them vibrated in his ears, but he focused on keeping the girl with him protected at all costs. He could feel the building parts falling on top of him, but it didn’t hurt in the least.

Once the sound died down, Kirishima slowly opened his eyes. All he could see were the (h/c) locks on top of the head of the girl beneath him. He couldn’t see any more of her, but he was praying that she wasn’t hurt.

“Hey, are you alright?” He spoke up, trying to move his body up a little to get the debris off of them. It was being a lot more difficult than he thought it would. They’d have to wait for someone to come dig them out.

“Y-yeah,” A small voice spoke up. He could feel her body shift slightly and then her moving out from underneath him. Her head poked out slightly and he caught sight of her shimmering, (e/c) eyes. “Thank you for saving me.” He noticed how close they were—their noses were almost touching.

He grinned down at her, “Hey, no problem! That’s what heroes do!” This seemed to spark something in her eyes, but it was only there for a second before more noise came from above them.

“Red Riot!” A voice yelled. Piece after piece of the building was being thrown off of them until Fatgum was revealed, huffing slightly. His worried face instantly relaxed once he saw that they were okay, “Thank goodness.”

“Hey Fat!” Kirishima yelled happily. He stood up from the wreckage and looked at his mentor, “Thanks for getting that off. It was a little too heavy for me.” He clenched his fist in determination, “That just means I gotta get stronger for next time!”

“Let’s just hope there ain’t a next time,” Fat sighed in relief.

Kirishima held a hand down to the girl who was still sitting on the ground, “Come on, let’s get you out of this.”

She looked at his hand for a second before gingerly taking it. Kirishima noted how soft and fragile her hand felt in his, but that was probably because his were all callused up from being on the job.

“You’re not hurt, are you?” He asked as he helped her up, scanning her body to look for any damage.

“No,” She said, giving him a soft smile. “Thanks to you, I’m completely unharmed.”

A wave of relief passed through the boy as he gave her a warm smile, “That’s great!”

“But it looks like you aren’t so lucky, kid,” Fatgum said, pointing to Kirishima’s face.

“Huh?” The red head touched his cheek, only to be met with a warm liquid. “Huh?!” He looked around and finally found a broken piece of glass. He used it as a mirror to see his face. It was very small, but a shallow cut ran along his cheek, parallel to his nose. It stuck out slightly from the face guard he had on. “Aw, man!” It wasn’t anything big, sure, but that meant either his quirk gave out, or he wasn’t making it strong enough in his face. He sighed, but turned a small smile to the girl, “Well, at least you’re unmarked. That’s what really matters.”

“Um…” The girl looked shyly at the ground, but then brought her eyes back up to his, “If you don’t mind, I’d like to repay you for your kindness in saving me.”

Kirishima waved his hand in a dismissive gesture, “Heroes don’t take handouts. It’s all good! Seeing that you’re okay is enough for me!”

“It’s not money,” She admitted.

“Then what do you mean?” He asked, slightly tilting his head to the side.

“Please take off your face guard,” She instructed.

Kirishima looked over at Fat, but he just shrugged and nodded his head. The red head proceeded to remove his mask, exposing his face to the girl in front of him. He was a little taller than her, so she motioned for him to bend down a bit. He did as instructed, and, before he had any time to react, she quickly put her lips to his cheek.

He froze feeling her lips hit his skin. After registering that she was kissing him, he jumped back, slightly startled. His hand flew to his cheek, “What was that for—” But then stopped. “Huh?” He felt around his cheek, but nothing was out of the ordinary—including the cut that was just there. He found that piece of glass again and held it up, peering at his reflection. The cut was gone! “How--?!”

She gave him a small smile, bowing in the process, “I know it isn’t much, but I’m really grateful for having you around tonight. Thank you again for saving me.”

Kirishima could feel a warm sensation in his cheeks as he rubbed the back of his head in embarrassment, “It’s no big deal, really.”

She gave him one more beautiful smile before turning around and walking in the other direction.

Once she was out of sight, Kirishima turned a shocked expression to Fat and Amajiki, “Did you see that?!”

“She has a healing quirk,” Fat said, studying Kirishima’s cheek. “Pretty good one, too.”

“It’s kind of like Recovery Girl…” Amajiki said softly.

“Yeah, just not as…weird,” Kirishima sweat dropped at comparing the young girl kissing his cheek versus Recovery Girl doing it. Come to think of it, that girl looked around his age. Did she go to school around here? Did she go to UA? With a quirk like that, it wouldn’t surprise him.

“Well, those small-time hoodlums got away in all the ruckus,” Fat shook his head in a disappointed manner. “We better go round them up before they cause even more trouble.”

The sound of an exciting mission of catching villains brought Kirishima out of his thoughts of that girl and back into the real world, “All right!” He turned to Amajiki, “Let’s do our best, Senpai!”

The cloaked intern only crouched down, sulking in a corner, “You’re too bright…”

Kirishima laughed as he headed out with his team for their next adventure of the night.

“Ah, a healing quirk, huh?” A menacing laughter escaped a shadowed figure as he looked through his binoculars. “We could use one of those.”
