Work Text:
Here we are in the place we first met.
Standing in front of each other on the school steps.
Although now our roles were reversed, as she held my-our umbrella out to me it feels like we are more of strangers now then we were back then.
Strangers with a past. That haunts us in black and red and blue and green.
Slowly I reach for the symbol of our beginning and although I didn’t know it back then the symbol of our end.
I recall the clap of thunder that shook the sky, It sound now resonating in my chest instead as my heart began to crack.
Her teary smile shook my soul as the mental ringing of her laughter filled my ears, our first meaningful moment.
When I finally managed to clasp the umbrella there was no subtle touch, slight brush of hands not even a lingering finger that would give me hope that we could fix this.
There was no promise of seeing each other again as she walked away, no stuttering of her words as she said her final goodbye.
This was it.
As she made it to the bottom she didn’t turn back the way he did, didn’t pause nor hesitate just simply walked away.
”Just a friend” he had said what an idiot he was.
The umbrella in his hand felt both meaningful because of her yet meaningless without her.
Now She was gone leaving him In The Rain.
