The Night is Cold (But My Heart Feels Warm).

Summary:

The district was overflowing with people, as Shibuya always is, bright lights and buzzing crowds. Walking around and trying to find a good place to eat, Sanada and Narumiya take the time to savor their moment together before another month of not seeing each other.

Work Text:

The coldest night of winter landed on the same night Narumiya and Sanada planned to eat dinner out. Narumiya Mei being Narumiya Mei, forgot to bring a coat, or maybe he intentionally didn't bring one as an excuse to snuggle up inside Sanada's, big enough to fit the both of them.

"So, where exactly are we eating?" Narumiya asked, lacing his freezing fingers between Sanada's for warmth.

"Anywhere you want."

"I can't decide though."

"Let's roam around then?"

"M'kay~"

The district was overflowing with people, as Shibuya always is, bright lights and buzzing crowds. Walking around and trying to find a good place to eat, Sanada and Narumiya take the time to savor their moment together before another month of not seeing each other.

Sanada noticed something shining on Narumiya's ear. If it weren't for the city lights, he wouldn't have noticed with the way it blended in with his skin and hair.

"Are those earrings?" A glint of fondness was present in his voice.

"Oh, you noticed! Yeah! I got my ears pierced yesterday with Kuramochi. I thought it was gonna hurt bad but it was actually painless! But stupid Kuramochi was scaring me, saying I would cry while getting the piercings! How dare he make fun of me like that?! I proved him wrong yesterday and made him buy me an extra pair of earrings. I chose these ones. Aren't they cute?~ They're little gold stars! Which reminds me..."

Narumiya continued to babble, eyes scanning around for restaurants, while Sanada kept his eyes on him, quietly listening, a form of intimacy for the two.

12 more minutes of walking and they finally found a ramen shop to eat in. Narumiya carried on with his stories. It was their thing, their routine, their normal. Narumiya chirping about his life at university and ranting about his teammates (the lighthearted kind of ranting, the "Kuramochi's laugh is so annoying and obnoxious, I hope he trips and falls face flat on dirt! But he bought me coffee the other day so I guess we're even." kind), and Sanada listening attentively, occasionally making comments and laughing at Narumiya's expressions, his eyes never straying away from his lover.

Narumiya loves how Sanada gives him his full attention, like he was a painting in an art exhibit.

Sanada agrees that Narumiya does, in fact, look like a painting in an art exhibit. Absolutely mesmerizing.

After dinner, they strolled around in Yoyogi Park. Narumiya was wriggling around inside Sanada's coat, obviously freezing, but his face looked like he was deeply thinking about something.

"Meimei? Is everything okay?"

"Yeah, I just had a thought."

"You? Thinking? That's a first."

"PEIPEI, YOU MEANIE!"

"I'm kidding~ What were you thinking about?"

"I want ice cream."

Disbelief was present all over Sanada's face. Was his boyfriend being serious?

"Meimei, it's freezing—you're literally shaking from the cold—and you want ice cream?"

Narumiya nodded with the widest smile on his face.

"Meimei..."

"Please? Pretty please?" And that was when he did it. The 'Narumiya Mei Helpless Puppy Dog Eyes'. The pleading look Sanada can never say no to no matter how hard he tries.

Fog forming as he sighs, he gives in. "Fine, let's get ice cream. Rum raisin, right?"

"Mhm!" Narumiya breaks free from the coat, grabs Sanada's hand, and runs to the nearest convenience store.

Once the ice cream had been secured (the store worker was almost hesitant to let them buy ice cream, who in their right mind would eat frozen food during a freezing season? Narumiya Mei, that's who), the smile on Narumiya's face was brighter than the sun, and it gave warmth to Sanada's heart.

"Thanks, Peipei! I love you~"

Sanada leaned to kiss Narumiya's lips, the taste of rum raisin transferring onto his. "I love you too."
