“I got this. I got this. I got this. I got this. I got thi-”
“You can stop saying that, Kanade.”
The redhead in question groaned, before running her hands through her hair.
“And stop doing that. I just finished combing it earlier.” Tsubasa said.
The blue-haired girl was on her knees, working on the last few straps of Kanade’s dress.
“Sorry, Basa.” Kanade said. “But excuse me for being a little bit nervous today!”
“That’s something I can understand.” Tsubasa said, before she started to pull and tug the hem of the dress, to make sure it wouldn’t accidentally trip Kanade with the heels she was wearing. “I’m finished. What do you think?”
Kanade looked in the mirror, inhaling sharply in surprise at seeing the beautiful girl in front of her. She was wearing a beautiful wedding dress that had a few hints of her signature vermillion in the tone. There was a bit of feathery material that resembled one of her various stage outfits here and there, not too much that it was overpowering or standing out, but enough to make an impact.
“Ugh, this is so not my style.” Kanade groaned.
“I think you look quite nice.” Tsubasa said. “What else would you have worn, anyways?”
“Well I wanted to wear a suit, but nooooooooo!” Kanade complained, before turning to Tsubasa. “Hey, Basa, get me one real quick so I can ditch this one. I could be a total knockout out there!”
“No, I’m not going to do that.” Tsubasa said. “When you two were planning the wedding, you agreed on a dress for both of you.”
“Yeah, cause I was outvoted!” Kanade groaned. “I was the only one that wanted the suit…”
“So you’re telling me that you don’t like this?” Tsubasa asked, raising a brow.
“Well… no. I’m not saying that, it’s just-” Kanade sighed, rubbing the back of her head. “I’m just… real damn nervous, you know?”
“We have time.” Tsubasa said. “Do you want to talk about it?”
“Well…” Kanade was about to sit down, but stopped herself. She didn’t want to crumple her dress. “It’s just that… I’m nervous.”
“Nervous.” Tsubasa repeated.
“I feel like my damn heart’s gonna explode with how much it’s been going “thump, thump.”” Kanade went on. “It never acted like this, not when we fought the Noise and other crap, and not whenever we took the stage together either.”
“I suppose.” Tsubasa said. “This is what we can consider one of the most important days of your life.”
“And that’s another thing.” Kanade said. “I thought the most important day of my life was when I took up the spear to avenge my family… or it was meeting you.”
“Kanade…”
“I just… don’t know.” Kanade groaned, running her hands through her hair again. “I want to do this, but I just don’t feel… all there. Is this really what I want to do? Or am I just going with the flow and winging it like usual? I don’t know. I just don’t-ow!”
Kanade held her forehead, as Tsubasa inflicted a quick flick to it.
“Honestly, Kanade.” Tsubasa sighed. “With how forward you always are, I’m surprised that you of all people are questioning yourself now.”
“Huh?”
“I remember the days that led up to this.” Tsubasa said. “You were at first in shock when Maria agreed to your proposal for several days. But once you got over it, you didn’t go back to normal…”
Tsubasa smiled.
“I saw your eyes, Kanade.” She said. “You were the happiest you had ever been in a long time.”
Kanade reached up to her face. “I was?”
Tsubasa nodded. “This is something that you want. I’m sure of it.”
Kanade looked at her hands. Surprisingly, they weren’t shaking with complete and absolute nervousness. She smiled, and looked up at Tsubasa.
“Thanks, Tsubasa.” Kanade said. “I needed that.”
“You’ve always been there for me, Kanade.” Tsubasa said. “It’s only natural that I support you as well.”
Kanade grinned, and pulled Tsubasa into a hug, which she gladly reciprocated.
“But now, no more hesitation.” Tsubasa said, taking Kanade’s hand. “It’s time, Kanade.”
The redhead nodded with a smile as Tsubasa led her along. “Yeah. I said it before; I got this.”
In a different room, something similar was occurring with Maria… though she was less worried about herself, and more for the two helping with her dress.
“Kiri-chan, can you pass me a few more threads?” Shirabe said, as she sewed on something extra.
“More threads, dess!” Kirika said, handing her friend a few more pieces of string.
“I think this might be a little too extra…” Maria said.
“There’s no such thing as too extra on a wedding, dess!” Kirika said.
Maria would’ve rolled her eyes at Kirika’s usual antics, but she had to agree with her.
“Done.” Shirabe said, sticking the needles back in the box, before pushing Maria towards a mirror. “What do you think?”
Maria smiled, seeing herself in the mirror. She wore a pure white wedding dress with hints of silver, no doubt inspired by her Symphogear. She bore a tiara and wedding veil atop her head that complemented the rest of the dress quite nicely. It was all complete with a large red rose on her chest, courtesy of Shirabe’s work.
“It’s beautiful.” She said, patting the two on the head. “Thank you for the hard work.”
“It’s only natural.” Shirabe said, slightly embarrassed.
“It’s the most important day of your life, dess!” Kirika grinned.
“I suppose so… but part of me wonders if I do deserve this.” Maria said.
“Maria, all that stuff happened years ago.” Shirabe said.
“It’s in the past, dess.” Kirika said, dismissing it with the wave of her hand. “Everyone else put it behind them after everything, so you should too.”
“But still-”
“Well, think of it this way.” Kirika suggested. “If you didn’t deserve it, why do you think Kanade-san proposed to you in the first place?”
“Well that’s…” Maria was surprised. “A good point, actually.”
Kirika had a very proud grin on her face as she puffed out her chest with her hands on her hips.
“I think if someone proposes to you despite knowing full well of your past, that means that you can move on.” Shirabe said.
“I… suppose so…”
“I remember how you had practically thrown yourself at Kanade-san when she proposed.” Shirabe remembered. “She had a very bewildered expression for about an hour.”
“Gah… did I really behave like that?” Maria said, a bit of pink rushing to her cheeks.
“Yup!” Kirika grinned. “You gave Miku-san a run for her money, dess!”
“I wouldn’t go that far, Kiri-chan.” Shirabe said. “But Maria, you deserve to be happy.”
“I deserve to be happy…”
“That’s right, dess!” Kirika said.
Maria smiled. “I must be blessed to have you two always supporting me.”
“It’s always been that way.” Shirabe smiled. “We rely on each other.”
“And we’ll keep relying on each other, dess!” Kirika added.
“Now, let’s not keep them waiting.” Shirabe said, as she took Maria’s hand, while Kirika took the other. They pulled Maria along, as the older girl couldn’t help beam.
These two little ones were always there for her, weren’t they?
“You remember the procedure, right, Kiri-chan?” Shirabe asked.
Kirika groaned. “This part’s gonna be embarrassing, dess…”
Kanade stood next to the altar, nervously pulling at her sleeves every now and then. Tsubasa stood a bit behind and next to her, as her maid of honor. The wedding venue was practically packed to the brim with familiar faces. The front pews in particular were the liveliest. Miku had to hold Hibiki’s arms down to prevent her from waving wildly, while Serena remained sitting with a smile.
The chatter had died down, once the back doors had opened up. Several of the attendees turned to see. Chris stretched her fingers, as she started playing the familiar wedding tune on the organ.
“Oh… oh wow.” Kanade said in awe.
“Wipe that drool off, Kanade.” Tsubasa said, slightly amused.
Maria was gracefully walking down the aisle, in her beautiful dress as she held a bouquet of maroon flowers. While Serena was blowing her nose and dabbing her eyes with a handkerchief and Miku tried to calm her down, Hibiki couldn’t help but snicker slightly, as she saw Kirika holding the hem of Maria’s dress as she walked, while Shirabe was throwing flower petals from a basket.
“Why are we doing this part, dess…?” Kirika whispered to Shirabe. “We’re not little kids anymore…”
“Shh.” Her friend responded by putting a finger to her lips, before going back to tossing the flower petals.
They had reached the altar. Once they did, Kirika and Shirabe took the spot opposite to Tsubasa, as they shared the spot of Maria’s maid of honor. Kanade and Maria had joined hands, as the officiant started to speak.
“Welcome, loved ones. We are gathered here today to join Kanade Amou and Maria Cadenzavna Eve in holy matrimony.”
The officiant that was overlooking the wedding procedure had gone into quite a grand speech about the idea of weddings. It started to sound less like the normal script that a priest would use, and almost more like a philosophical speech. Oddly enough, he slipped in a proverb that his grandmother used to say.
“Where’d we get this guy?” Chris asked Hibiki when she sat down, as the other girl simply shrugged.
“Apparently this guy is a SONG agent or something.” Hibiki said. “Says he’s a jack of all trades, and says something about walking the path of Heaven.”
“Why do we always attract the crazy ones…?” Chris muttered.
“Maria Cadenzavna Eve, do you take Kanade Amou to be your wedded wife, to live together in marriage? Do you promise to love her, comfort her, honor and keep her for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and health, and forsaking all others, be faithful only to her, for as long as you both shall live?” The officiant asked.
Maria smiled at Kanade. “I do.”
“And you, Kanade Amou, do you take Maria Cadenzavna Eve to be your wedded wife, to live together in marriage? Do you promise to love her, comfort her, honor and keep her for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and health, and forsaking all others, be faithful only to her, for as long as you both shall live?”
Kanade smiled, looking at Maria. “Fuck yeah I do.”
The rather informal (and crude) proclamation caused the attendees to laugh and Maria to blush embarrassed, but she knew this was what she had signed up for when she had accepted the proposal.
“With the power vested in me, I now proclaim you, wife and wife.” The officiant said, holding out his arms.
The attendees all stood up and started to clap, with Kanade and Maria’s friend’s all clapping the loudest (especially Hibiki).
“You may now kiss the bride.” He said.
“Oh that’s the part I’ve been waiting for.” Kanade grinned.
While Maria leaned forward for a simple kiss, Kanade decided to change things up. She pulled Maria towards her, causing the girl to yelp as she found herself looking up at Kanade, being supported by the other arm.
“Kanade!” Maria said, blushing. “What are you-?”
“I’m not gonna half-ass this.” Kanade said. “Remember when we almost kissed when you taught me to dance?”
“Yes, why-?” Maria then realized the familiar position they were in. “Oh…”
All apprehension disappeared as Kanade’s lips met hers, and the clapping and cheering grew louder, accompanied by whistling.
“H-How bold…” Miku commented.
“That’s our Kanade-san!” Hibiki grinned. “She doesn’t do anything halfway!”
“I think Maria-neesan’s happy.” Serena said. “You can see her through all of Kanade-san’s hair.”
“Can’t you guys ever do it at home…?” Chris grumbled, hands over her face, though she peeked through her fingers.
The maids of honor were getting the front row seats, however.
“Jiiiiiiiii…” Shirabe just stared in shock.
“W-Wow, Kanade-san’s really going at it, dess…” Kirika said with a sweatdrop.
Tsubasa sighed, before putting her hands on Kirika and Shirabe’s shoulders. “This is the girl that I’ve had to deal with for most of my life. I hope you two are prepared.”
Kanade and Maria broke the kiss, staring into the other’s eyes.
It was at that moment, that they knew; they were looking at the most beautiful person in the world.
