Chapter Text
Rook can feel the tiredness seep into his bones, after spending hours fighting for the safety of Hope County, he is left feeling exhausted to no end. He wants nothing more than to fall sleep and only wake up when this stupid war is over but he has a commitment to the people here and there's always still a job at hand that he has to get done. He can't remember the last time he got to actually take a break, to sit down, eat something other than a cereal bar and actually get some sleep that lasts longer than and hour at a time, to many people in Hope County rely on him, need his help.
He's had his hands full since the helicopter crash the work never slowing down only increasing, no matter how much he dose in a day.
That's why he's still walking around, hissing in pain as he puts too much weight onto his injured leg , he didn't have the supplies to properly treat the nasty bite one of Jacob's judges had given him on his left leg and before he could ask for Dr Charles Lindsey for help another resistance member had walked up to him and sending him on another rescue mission.
The need to help, the desperate need to feel like he was being useful keeps Rook awake and on his feet, he couldn't let the people of Hope County down, couldn't say no to any little thing they ask him to do no matter how much he hates what they make him to do.
The pain of his leg makes him wince and he promises himself this will be the last thing he dose tonight before getting some sleep, ignores the thought that he's been saying that for the past three missions he's done today.
Rooks lets out a sigh of relief when he sees the clearing that the resistance member had said the missing resistance had been taken to.
Pausing briefly to move his rifle into his hands, prepares himself for a fight but the movement and shift of weight makes his leg gives out from pain sending a bolt of pain through his knees when they hit the floor, his hands shaking.
He manages to shift himself so he's sitting down his legs spread out infront of him and moves his rifle into his lap so he can shuffle backwards so that his back is pressed against a tree the bark scraping against his jacket.
He groans moving his rifle again so that it's in the grass next to his hip before leaning forward to look at the injury on his leg his hands still shaking.
"Deputy? are you alright?"
Rook immediately recognises the manipulative sweetness that is Faith's voice.
He ignores it, thinking it as nothing more than a bliss filed hallucination, he needs to focus on getting back up instead of being trapped in the bliss again.
"deputy?" she asks again making Rook look up, he can see her infront of him standing with her hands clasped infront of her and her head is tipped to the side like a curious puppy.
Rook grunts he's dealt with faith enough to know that her concern is fake, reaching for his rifle Rook tries to stand but Rook quickly realizes he isn't getting up anytime soon when he feels his leg erupt in pain and he slides back down to the floor with a loud groan his eyes closed tight from the agony.
By the next time he manages to peel his heavy eyes open again faith is on the ground next to him, her feet tucked under her, she places her hand gently on his shoulder and that's when Rook relases she's frowning as she looks at his leg, it's an odd sight Rook doesn't think he's ever seen her withing anything but a blissed out smile on her face.
"Deputy stay awake while I call one of our healers, help will be here soon okay?"
She goes to stand but Rook is quicker firmly grabbing her wrist and stopping her
"no- no doctor I'm fine and I certainly don't need help from some peggie fucks"
They both know it's a lie his voice clearly shaking as much as his hands are despite his grip on Faith's wrist.
"Deptuy please, let me get someone to help you" she sighs looking back down at his leg where the bite is just above his ankle.
It's still bleeding steadily, Rook's a bit shocked at the sight of it never quite realising just how bad it was, the judge had managed to rip through the fabric of his pants and somehow Rook has managed to get mud in it on his way here.
past all the mud Rook thinks that maybe he can see the bone, dreading to think how long the healing process is going to take.
how long he'll be useless for the resistance while it heals.
faintly Rook thinks he can hear faith calling his name but its sounds distant likes she's far, far away as everything becomes fuzzy and blurry making his stomach churn.
He fights to try and stay conscious , he can't pass out because then Faith will get her chance and when Rook wakes up again he'll be dead or even worse one of Faith's angels , he knows it.
his fight ends up being futile, his vision slowly turning black as he loses consciousness th last thing he sees being faith reaching for him.
