Don't Look At Me!

Summary:

Katsuki and Ochako are partnered up to work on an assignment together.

Problem is, Katsuki is just now realizing she has a crush on a certain chubby cheeked bastard.

Notes:

idek how to explain what this is other than tah-dah! all of class 1a is genderbent/cisswapped in this little au. i've yet to decide if i want the teachers or anyone else outside of their class to be that way. this is taking place sometime in their first year.

i personally enjoy the headcanon of katsuki still being the taller of the two in this kind of au. for the sake of simplicity and bc i don't feel like butchering everyone's names, those things will remain relatively unchanged. i feel like a lot of their dynamics aren't that different tbh, the only thing that majorly stands out to me so far is "oh hey this hero class is mostly girls! cool!"

Chapter Text

Oh… no. No... Oh no. Absolutely not. Nooo, this could NOT be happening.

Katsuki was currently sitting at her desk, white-knuckle gripping the sides as she watched him- the bane of her existence she decided- laughing it up in all his pink cheeked glory at something that broccoli bitch said.

UGH it was bad enough that she had to deal with the fact that Deku was here, and all that other bullshit it implied, but to top it all off, Katsuki had the most damning realization right before classes even started.

Her face scrunched up in distaste, baring her teeth. She could barely bring herself to think the thought without gagging on the horror of it all.

She had… A crush.

And not just any crush, a crush on Uraraka Ochako. Short little bastard. Who did he think he was? Smiling all bright and cheery like that. Being all- optimistic and shit. Saying shit like ~after my fight with Bakugou, I realized I needed to get stronger~ and ~wHoA you’re a sight with a kitchen knife~  all with a straight face while he was standing RIGHT BY HER-

“Uhhh, Bakugou? You okay there?”

Shitty Hair was currently occupying Earphone’s seat, leaning too close and not even trying to be subtle with her invasive questions. Her and her stupid mullet can fuck off GOD why can’t she leave me alone- It was criminal how dumb she was and at the same time so perceptive.

She would never admit it out loud but Katsuki was willing to wager that Shitty Hair knew about her crush before she did, the way Kirishima was looking at her looking at him after the Sports Festival fiasco.

She knew she didn’t have the best sense of… emotional awareness, but Jesus to think she had no idea until just now-

Slamming a fist on her desk, she whipped around, ponytail slapping Kirishima in the face. “HAH?! What are ya tryin’ to say?! What’s fuckin’ wrong-”

“Bakugou, enough. Everyone to your seats...”

And just like that, the decrepit banana sleeping at the front of the classroom finally decided to wake-up. Tch. Like she was gonna actually blow Kirishima up.

As Aizawa droned on, Katsuki slowly sunk further and further into her seat. Oh this week was just going to fucking suck. Towards the end of homeroom, Aizawa revealed they would be paired up for a three-day project. And the pairs were already decided. Not only was she going to have to work with some damn extra, she was still wrestling with what she realized this morning.

Or to be more specific, why she realized it.

Katsuki was watching Uraraka laugh it up with Deku and her first thought was I want to make him laugh like that.

She was pissed because she realized she was jealous. JEALOUS OF DEKU- of all the fucking things-

She was so lost in her thoughts, popping little firecracker explosions in her hands while she wallowed in her own melodrama, that she only caught the tail-end of the pairings.

“... Shouji and Midoriya, Todoroki and Asui, and lastly, Bakugou and Uraraka.”

Fucking WHAT-

Katsuki turned around so fast her chair screeched against the laminate floor as she pushed herself away from it, her piercing gaze zeroing in on the shortstack across the room.

He was already looking her way, his smile shaking while he waved at her. His cheeks became even more luminous under her soul-destroying glare. He had no right to look so- so ROUND. Kirby ass lookin’ motherfucker-

Their teacher carried on, like Uraraka and Bakugou weren’t engaged in some sort of mind-melding psychological warfare right now.

“Pairings were mostly chosen at random with some… minor consideration for compatibility.” A swift glance between Katsuki and Izuku told all.

“For the next three days you will be working together to create a set of combination moves that you would use in the field. You will create two defensive and two offensive maneuvers to use in the test. After these three days, you will be fighting other pairs in Ground Beta, with a surprise element that will be revealed the day of.” Zipping up the yellow abomination, Aizawa once again returned to laying on the floor.

“Think of it like the Heroes vs Villains assignment. You have the rest of the period to group up and talk strategy with your partner.”

All the extras were already up in arms, moving around to sit with their designated partner.

Forget Deku, right now Earphones was dead to him, the bastard went and gave up his seat to mister mochi cheeks.

“Th-this is going to be lots of fun, eh, Bakugou?” Uraraka had his fists up, shadow boxing like he was trying to punch away his nerves. Why does he have to look so swee-stupid. So, so stupid- GET IT TOGETHER-

She popped off a louder-than-necessary explosion, a feral grin taking over her face.

“Tch. What’s fun is that I’m going to destroy you and all these other fucks, Round Face.” With that, she shoved off the desk and started to walk off. She didn’t need to talk strategy, what she needed was to hit the gym and blow off steam. Katsuki didn’t get jealous. And she especially didn’t get jealous of Deku.

Grabbing Kirishima by the back of her shirt, she dragged her out of the classroom with her.

“Shitty Hair! We’re going to the gym!”

“Wha-Hey, no fair, I’m trying to work here-”

“Don’t care, didn’t ask!”

And with that, the classroom door slammed behind them, leaving the rest of 1A to continue their plotting. What Katsuki didn’t see was Uraraka with the class president doing her best to console him. But his expression wasn’t one of frustration or even anger, as Iida had misinterpreted.

It was pure determination.

Notes:

and there that is! no beta so we edit a thousand times after we post <3 after this chapter i will likely just be sporadically updating. i'll also probably try to end each chapter as if the story could stop there and have things be open-ended if i don't ever finish this. i have NO idea where this is going tbh, i just know there's some scenarios i'm looking forward to writing /eyes emoji/
