Chapter Text
AN: this is fanfiction so none of this is canon remember that anyone that says this is true to the story will get laughed at, if you don't like a troupe I'm using the answer is simple don't read it I'm not changing my story to suit one person. Whilst yes Hermione will be powerful it won't be as soon as she finds out, she needs to learn and grow as a witch.
Also, which lady should be Hermione's love interest? I haven't tagged it yet because it won't happen for a while. This is starting from her first year. She's only a kid and doesn't need a love life yet but this is for the future.
I can't say when I will update because these chapters will be decent sized so will take me a while and also I am looking for a beta reader no time wasters however.
Chapter one- The letter and diagon alley
The morning was crisp. It was winter after all, a slight frost had formed on the grass and untouched pavements.
Hermione Granger woke as her alarm blasted out letting her know it was time to wake up, she yawned, stretching out her muscles before jumping out of bed and throwing her dressing gown on and slipping into her slippers.
It was a week before school started and she would be going into secondary school. She was excited that a chance to learn was always a good thing in her book.
Her parents were up making breakfast or reading the paper by the time she jumped down the stairs missing the last step she nearly fell but stayed mid air before managing to regain her balance.
Things like that happened all the time, so much so that Hermione was used to it and would just carry on her day, she sat opposite her father who put his paper down and greeted her with a good morning.
"Morning daddy" she would reply. He would grin and go back to his reading as her mother put her breakfast in front of her, usually it was eggs and toast but today it was pancakes.
"Thanks mummy" her mother smiled, kissing her head and getting back to making the rest of breakfast.
Hermione poured herself a glass of orange and dug into her food. The tap at the door told the family that mail had arrived Jean however frowned looking at her watch.
"It's a bit early for the post isn't it?" She asked her husband Dan who just shrugged, Jean left the room to grab whatever had come.
When she returned she only had one letter, it was thick and on old looking paper with a hand written address on the front "what is it dear?" Dan asked, folding his newspaper.
"It's for Hermione" was all Jean said. The girl in question stopped eating her food and looked at the letter in her mother's hand. Jean sat down next to Dan and gave Hermione the letter on the front it read
Miss Hermione Jean Granger
Bedroom number 2
Hampstead road
London
When Hermione turned it over the letter was sealed with wax and a crest on it, slowly small fingers broke the seal inside pages of a letter waiting for her.
Once the letter was pulled out it was three pages. The writing was elegant and the paper looked old, Hermione unfolded it and began reading out loud.
'Dear miss Granger,
It is our pleasure to announce you have been accepted into Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry, please find a list of your books and other things on a separate paper, you are also allowed to bring a pet whether that be a cat, an owl or a toad.
As you are Muggle I will come to your place of living a day after you receive this letter to answer any questions and to take you to get your school supplies.
I hope to see you tomorrow
Regards
Professor Minerva McGonagall
Deputy headmistress
The family sat in silence as Hermione finished reading the letter.
Dan and Jean looked at each other "there is something we must tell you Hermione" Jean began.
The family of three sat in the living room as Hermione waited to hear what it was her parents had to tell her. Hermione was nervous, sure being a witch explained a lot how she could do things that others couldn't.
"Now this doesn't mean we don't love you any less ok?" Her dad began Hermione could only nod her heart beating wildly in her chest.
"Yes darling we love you but we have to tell you" Jean paused looking at Dan who nodded "honey your adopted"
Silence was all that followed Hermione looking between her parents hoping they were just joking but both had sad looks on their faces as they waited for her to respond.
"That's why I'm the only witch," Hermione whispered as her parents nodded "do you know who my birth parents are?" She asked.
"I'm sorry darling but you were left on our doorstep no note or anything and we couldn't track down any birth records" Dan explained Hermione could only nod holding back tears.
"Can I go to my room please" Hermione whispered her voice sounding so broken her parents nodded and watched on sadly as their only daughter felt her world fall apart.
For most of the day Hermione was sat on her bed, the first hour or two was her crying trying to understand why her parents gave her up, soon she was angry at her parents and her birth parents but it wasn't her parents fault they didn't know what would happen they raised her even though she wasn't theirs. No, her anger was directed at her birth parents.
It was nearly dark by the time Hermione left her room, her parents sat reading but stopped when they saw her at the bottom of the stairs, both opening their arms she ran and hugged them tightly, they understood her need of being alone to process what she was told but they still loved her and that wouldn't change at all.
------------------------------------------------------------------
The next morning Hermione waited eagerly for her professor to arrive. She had been up since 6am, had eaten breakfast and was washed and dressed before her parents even got up.
Not long after her parents got up, there was a knock at the door. Jean had stood to answer it and was surprised to see a woman dressed in what looked like robes and a stern but friendly expression on her face.
"Hello I am Minerva McGonagall I wrote you a letter about your daughter Hermione Granger" she was Scottish her tone formal.
"Please come in thank you for coming to explain all this to us" Jean moved aside and let the older woman through.
When Hermione saw the professor she paused, it was real the woman who had written to her about magic was here. She seemed strict but Hermione could feel this calm when she looked at her.
"Hello miss Granger" the woman began her smile turned soft and her eyes twinkled, Hermione held out her hand to shake.
"Hello professor, how are you?" She asked politely the older woman chuckled and sat down next to the new student.
"I am very well thank you, now I am here to answer any questions you may have seeing as how you are Muggle born" she began Hermione's parents nodded.
"But I'm not Muggle born" Hermione said, frowning McGonagall looked confused.
"Hermione was adopted. We think her real parents may have been magical hence her being the only witch in the family" Dan explained McGonagall looked from them to the eleven year old if she had to guess this was still sinking in for her.
"Well if you are from magical parents we can find that out" Hermione nodded eagerly "if that's ok with you two?" She added looking at Dan and Jean.
"Yes of course , anything to help our little girl find out who she is" Jean replied. McGonagall nodded and turned back to the student.
"We will be going to get your school supplies and to open a bank account at gringotts" Hermione nodded eagerly "whilst we are there we can get a heritage test done and find out where your parents are"
Hermione was excited she couldn't wait to get her school supplies "wow I can't wait to see everything" the adults laughed at her eagerness McGonagall stood motioning for Hermione to get her coat.
"Would you like to come with us?" The professor asked Dan and Jean.
"If that's ok? We don't want to impose" Dan began but McGonagall brushed their concerns aside.
"Nonsense it will be good for everyone, we will need to set up an account for you so you can send your daughter money for school supplies as we do not use your currency" both parents nodded and got ready as well.
The family followed McGonagall's directions until they got to a small old corner pub, they parked up and followed the woman who walked briskly inside, the pub wasn't very busy and a bit smokey, it was just an old man's pub.
They looked at them but McGonagall ignored them as she went to the back area and stood in front of a wall. Hermione looked around; she wasn't sure what would happen until the older woman pulled out a stick and tapped certain bricks until the wall began to move.
The Granger's gasped at the sight, behind the wall was a busy alley filled with shops and talking, some market stalls off to the side and owls flying around happily.
"Oh my" Hermione whispered to herself but McGonagall heard her and smiled softly she forgot how amazing all of this was for a Muggle.
The group walked into the alley, straight ahead was a massic white building with gringotts written in gold. They followed McGonagall until they reached the door which she held open and allowed them in first.
Inside it was quiet only small stamps could be heard as the people were working, when Hermione looked around she saw they were all odd looking fellows snarls on their faces as they worked McGonagall walked to the very end were a not so snarling fellow was writing, he stopped when he saw them.
"Can I help you?" He asked his voice deep and glasses sitting comfortably at the end of his nose.
"Yes" McGonagall paused "I would like to open an account for the Granger family" the small fellow looked at the family, Hermione's parents were scared but Hermione herself was more intrigued than anything, the fellows eyes found Hermione's he paused regarding her his eyes sparked with recognition before he sat back and looked at McGonagall.
"Of course, professor, any other business?" He asked as she nodded.
"Yes I need a heritage test for miss Hermione Granger as she was adopted" he nodded in understanding McGonagall then handed him a letter "and this is for your attention" he took the letter opening and reading it's contents before nodding and motioning for another small fellow to come over.
They whispered to each other before the new fellow motioned for them to follow him. They were shown to an office and told to wait until the manager could speak to them.
Hermione once again looked around in wonder "what are those creatures?" Dan asked.
"They are goblins, be careful although very good with money they are very untrusting of us" McGonagall began as she sat and waited.
The door once again opened and a taller goblin walked in, he seemed happier than the others as he smiled at them as he sat down.
"Hello again Minerva" he began McGonagall smiled and offered a greeting in return "and we are opening an account for the Granger's today" once again she nodded "and also a heritage test" another nod he had the letter McGonagall gave to the other goblin and produced a box handing it to her she shrunk it to fit in her pocket.
"Albus thanks you" she whispered he nodded and turned his attention back to the Granger's when he looked at Hermione he was shocked.
"My dear you are the image of Morgan le fay" McGonagall gasped and looked between them Hermione and her parents looked on confused.
"I'm sorry sir but who is that?" Hermione asked he seemed to chuckle at the term sir. This girl was obviously not familiar with the wizarding world so he offered her a seat.
"My dear Mrs le fray was the most powerful witch to exist she was married to Merlin" Hermione gasped "she was also the heir to the founders of Hogwarts" he added "a very powerful friend to us goblins I add and a fair and just woman her husband was the same"
McGonagall looked at Hermione; she too could see the resemblance she frowned with; they lived thousands of years ago just after the founders lived; could this girl be a descendant of her? If that was true the order would need to be told.
"Shall we see if you are related to her?" The goblin who was called furheard grinned, Hermione nodded.
Furheard pulled out a parchment and a needle "all I need to do is prick your finger and let the blood drop on to the parchment" he explained Hermione nodded and held out her finger.
A quick prick and the blood slowly dropped onto the page. There wasn't a family tree, just her name and the name of her parents.
Parents: Merlin and Morgan le fay
