Work Text:
Unwilling to open her eyes, the girl stirs languidly.
Today is her birthday, but she does not remember this yet. All she knows is the warmth under the blanket, the pleasant softness of her bedsheets, and the hard-yet-soft weight of a body on top of hers.
...hmm?
A body's on top of her?
The girl stirs languidly.
Someone is here... someone's being real gentle, tucking her hair away from her dozing face, fiddling idly with the short-sleeved shirt she wears to bed. Someone is straddling her body, but it's not an attack, it's someone waiting, hot breath mixing with hers as the seconds pass.
"Kiana..."
It's a murmur, perhaps the softest thing the girl has ever heard. It's her very own name.
Kiana opens her eyes, finding her bedroom on the Hyperion shrouded with darkness.
Ash-colored hair falls on either side of her field of vision. Familiar eyes reflect hers, the sea to the sky in their mirrored gentleness.
The girl still does not remember that today is her birthday. She has had too much on her mind to keep track of such a thing as date and time; thankfully, there are others in her life who are not so absent-minded.
All she knows is that someone is here, and that person is smiling, the tuck of her lips barely discernible in the gloom.
"Ki..." Too long. She doesn't want them to waste such a precious moment using their tongues to speak; impish glee glints in her pupils as she steals a kiss.
Fu Hua's eyes widen, but she recovers quickly, eyelids fluttering shut to kiss her back.
"Good morning," Kiana whispers. Though she hates to move from her comfortable nest, she lifts an arm out to poke at Hua's hip. "Hop off. I'll let you in."
Content, the girl sighs. Though she does not remember this, today is her birthday, and she gets to spend some of it with someone tucked in her arms. Perhaps there are sorrows she could be thinking about... but she would much rather stay like this, pleasantly warm.
"Why did you come to wake me up..?"
"Now you're asking?" A brief chuckle rocks the one nestled against her. "Happy birthday, Kiana."
"Oh." The girl's hold tightens, and with this newfound knowledge she sees fit to steal another kiss. "So you're my present, right?"
"Mhm... I had other gifts in mind, but..." Fu Hua's voice is just as warm as her breath, just as gentle as her touch. It drives Kiana's thoughts to race, turns the train tracks of her daydreams into a reverent road so they can burn themselves out.
"But?"
Yes... the woven embers of Hua's words kindle heat under the girl's skin. "Kiana, if you'll have me, I'll be yours any day."
"Any day?" The echo of that voice tastes just as sweet. "What about every day?"
"Sure. Every day."
"If I'll have you for every single day for the rest of our lives, will you be mine even then?"
"Of course." Hua's lips find the girl's collarbone.
Kiana huffs. "That's hardly fair. I'll have to promise to be yours too." Their fingers twine, an unconscious decision. "Will you have me?"
"For the rest of my life, if you'll let me."
A light kiss graces this ashen hair. "I did already promise you that."
"You did..."
Kiana takes another kiss, takes and takes and devours the one in her arms like fire.
Unwilling to open her eyes, the girl stirs heat.
Today is her birthday, and she does remember this now. All she knows is the warmth under the blanket, the pleasant softness of her bedsheets, and the hard-yet-soft weight of a body entwined with hers.
There is another murmur, one that rises like smoke once they decide to rest.
"Thank you, Kiana. Happy birthday."
