The Art of Nightmares and Comfort

Summary:

Seira doesn't want to wake up her parents but she can't sleep alone.

Work Text:

Two women were holding onto each other as they were both sleeping soundly and peacefully. The small child that had quietly opened the door felt bad about needing to interrupt them but she couldn’t sleep on her own yet. Because the small child would reach the purple-haired woman easier, she approached her. “Mama.” She called out to the woman, distressed. Keqing immediately woke up to see Seira’s tight grip on the bedspread.

“Hello, Kitten. What’s wrong?” She asked, lifting Seira into her arms. The girl was tightly holding onto one of her teddy bears, with her eyes big and wide.

“Can’t sleep.” She whines softly and Keqing frowned at the words. That’s not good. She thought.

“Okay, Kitten. You can sleep with us.” Keqing spoke as she gently wakes up Ganyu.

“Wha-? Oh hello, darling.” Ganyu greeted Seira.

“She can’t sleep.” Keqing spoke and Ganyu immediately rolled over so Seira could fit in between her and Keqing.

“She can sleep here.” Ganyu spoke as she rolled back over so she can be facing Seira. Keqing placed Seira in the middle and the girl settled down between her parents.

“Who do you want to cuddle?” Keqing questioned Seira and the little girl giggled.

“Yes.” She responded. Keqing blinked while Ganyu chuckled.

“She means both of us.” Ganyu responded.

Keqing then nodded her head. “That sounds right.” She mumbled as she laid back down, this time, having Seira in her arms.

Ganyu did the same thing, wrapping her arms around Seira. “Sleep tight, Kitten.” Keqing spoke as both of them placed gentle kisses on the girl’s forehead.

“Goodnight.” Seira responded as she fell asleep, feeling safe with her mothers. Ganyu smiled down at the girl as she turned to look at Keqing, who softly smiled at her.

“I love you.” Ganyu spoke softly as the two women kissed each other softly.

Once they pulled away, Keqing responded. “I love you too.” A smile remained on everyone’s face as they all fell asleep together.

The next day, Ganyu was the first to wake up and she made sure that Seira was tucked into Keqing’s arms as she stretched out her arms. Time to cook. She thought as she made sure to silently creep out of the room as she didn’t want to disturb her family.

Ganyu looked through the ingredients and she then hears soft footsteps. Ganyu smiled, knowing who had wanted to accompany her to the kitchen. “Good morning, Seira.” Ganyu smiled.

“Good morning, Mommy.” Seira spoke as she sat at the table, knowing that her mother will give her something to drink so she would be able to function for the day.

“Which flavor are you feeling, darling?” Ganyu made sure to keep Seira talking so the little girl could stay awake with her.

“Grape.” Seira sleepily responded as Ganyu smiled at how adorable the girl was. Keqing and my precious baby. She thought as her heart grew softer. I need to buy her another animal onesie. She thought, knowing that Seira looked so cute in them. “Mommy, why are you crying?” Seira asked, concern laced in her voice.

Ganyu inwardly cursed as she smiled at Seira, giving the girl her grape juice. “Mommy’s fine, darling. Mommy’s just happy.” Ganyu was honest with Seira and the girl smiled at her mother.

Seira took a sip of her grape juice and she hopped off the chair so she could hug Ganyu. She only reached Ganyu’s waist and yet, Ganyu melted into the hug. “I love you, Seira.”

“I love you too, Mommy.” Seira smiled up at Ganyu with her eyes closed.

“How do the hearing aids feel?” She asked and Seira’s smile became strained.

“They feel weird but I can hear you really clearly.” Seira knew that she would take hearing her parents’ clearly over being able to barely understand them.

“You’ll get used to them. You’ve just got them.” Ganyu gently reminds her and the little child nodded her head in understanding. Mommy’s voice is so rough-sounding. Seira noticed once again as she smiled at her mother.

“I will get used to them soon, I’m sure.” Seira agreed with Ganyu and Ganyu gently patted Seira on her head. Ganyu chuckled at her.

“Finish your juice, darling.” Ganyu gently ordered the girl and Seira smiled at her.

“Coffee?” Seira asked and Ganyu lifted her mug.

“Already made. I will join you at the table, little one.” Ganyu responded.

The two people sat at the table together, sipping from their cups. “Can I try your expresso, Mommy?” Seira asked and Ganyu’s eyes widened at the implications of Seira drinking the expresso.

“When you’re older, darling.” Ganyu responded. She’s going to be running around after her juice. She thought. “Run around after your juice.” Ganyu responded to her.

Once Seira had finished her juice, her smile became even wider and wicked. Seira ran into the living room and Ganyu just lovingly rolled her eyes.

Once Ganyu was paying attention to the stove, Seira saw that as her chance as she tiptoed back into the kitchen to taste the expresso and once the first tip touched her tongue, Seira scowled. “Mommy, why is it so bitter?”

Ganyu smiled softly, expecting Seira to taste it.  “Because adults are cold people.”

“Ganyu, don’t tell her that.” Ganyu was glad that Keqing was up. Seira ran to Keqing and Ganyu then realized that she was screwed.

“Mama, why is coffee bitter?”

Ganyu could feel Keqing’s heated glare on her back. “I’m watching the stove.” Ganyu turned so Keqing could see the food cooking on the stove. Keqing just sighed as she lifted Seira into her arms.

“Now, baby, why did you drink that? It’s for older people who can’t wake up on their own.” Keqing tells Seira.

“So you and Mommy need help waking up?” Seira asked.

“Yes?” Keqing responded.

“Then I can wake you next time.” Seira smiled innocently and Keqing knew that she had unleashed the beast.

Ganyu looked into the air, exasperated. Keqing, what have you done? She thought.

Once Keqing had her coffee, Seira knew not to ask to taste it, which made Keqing laugh as she looked at everything except for Seira. Damn, my coffee is the sweet kind that she would love. Keqing thought as she smiled to herself. “Adults are weird.” Seira commented, causing Keqing to nearly choke on her coffee.

Ganyu had to snort at Seira’s words because the girl didn’t realize exactly why adults acted the way they do. Just wait until you hit your teenage years, darling. Ganyu thought as she chuckled. “Teenagers are weirder.” Ganyu spoke as she cooked the food.

Keqing giggled at her wife’s words. Like people aren’t weird in general. She thought. She knew that people were strange but that was why it was up for particular people to befriend one another. People are weird but that’s what makes relationships of any kind fun. She thought as she watched Seira interact with Ganyu.

“Mommy, come play.” Seira begged and Keqing watched as Ganyu’s smile grew softer. I’m glad we’re a family. Keqing thought as she lovingly stared at her daughter and her wife.

Keqing knew that she wouldn’t change this for anything in the world. Her family was all she wanted in life.
