I'll Take One Perfect Christmas, Please

Summary:

"S-sugar daddy?!" Seokjin splutters. "Excuse me, that's not what this is."
"No," Yoongi shakes his head sadly. "Look at you, a sugar daddy without the sugar to back it up."

Jin's new boyfriend, Jungkook, got the perfect gift for Jin's birthday. Now Christmas is approaching, Jin has to get him something better- but what?!

Notes:

A short, fluffy follow-up to Baby, You're a Haunted House, but you don't have to read that to understand this 😊

Work Text:

Seokjin's in a pickle.

He's got a hot new boyfriend, Jungkook, which is great. Jungkook, despite being a broke student and knowing Seokjin for barely a month prior, managed to get him the coolest birthday present he's ever received: a very hard-to-find Super Mario gaming chair. Seokjin's still not sure how he found it (much less paid for it), but he's over the moon. The chair's taking up too much room in his tiny apartment, to be honest- right now it's housing the humungous Yoshi plushie that Jungkook won for him.

Which is great!

However, Christmas is approaching, and now Seokjin's feeling the pressure of getting something Jungkook even better.

He holds his head in his hands at the kitchen table, groaning, and Namjoon sighs, weary.

"Why is it such a big deal, hyung?"

"Why?!"

It's like Namjoon hasn't been listening to Seokjin's incessant whining for the last hour. Perhaps he hasn't.

"Joon, it's a huge deal," he pouts, "our relationship's young and fragile. Moments like this could make or break us," he insists. "Imagine if Jungkook gets a terrible gift from me- he'll think I don't care, and he'll get distant, and he'll break up with me."

"You are unbelievably insecure, Jin hyung."

"Excuse me?!"

"Or co-dependant. Or both. Either way, I don't think it matters - Jungkook's smitten with you, he'll love whatever you get him."

"But how do you know that?!" Seokjin whines, as Namjoon turns to make himself a snack, trying to ignore his roommate. "What if he hates it?! I can't lose him, Joonie, I just can't."

"You guys have barely been together a month, hyung," Namjoon points out, sensibly. "Is it really a good idea to get attached to someone this quickly?"

"Namjoon, you think too much," Seokjin accuses, not for the first time. "It's love, you don't analyse it. You just feel it."

"And you love Jungkook."

"So much," Seokjin pouts. "So what the hell do I get him for Christmas?!"

Weeks later, it's Christmas Eve, and Seokjin has enlisted the help of his long-suffering roommate once again. Namjoon was in no hurry to give up his Christmas Eve, but that's nothing that a little gentle coercion couldn't fix. It's mid-afternoon, and they're on their third (and thankfully final) trip of the day, driving out of central Seoul to a lovely secluded little log cabin just outside of the city.

Seokjin had managed to swindle his aunt and uncle into letting it to him for free for a couple of nights, blissfully unaware of all the freaky sex Seokjin hoped he and Jungkook would be having over Christmas.

It's taken this many trips to cart all of the presents Seokjin's bought in his tiny car. Namjoon's there because several of the presents are far too heavy, or unwieldy, for Seokjin to carry by himself. As they arrive at the cabin for the last time, another car's already parked up, and Seokjin can see a very grumpy looking Yoongi standing on the doorstep, waiting to be let in. His boyfriend, Hoseok, has a bigger car than Seokjin's, so Seokjin had pleaded with them to help bring the last oversized present to the cabin.

"About time," Yoongi grumbles, but Hoseok thankfully looks much perkier. How Yoongi managed to find such a ball of energy, Seokjin will never know.

Seokjin lets them in and begins again the process of carting presents from his car with Namjoon. Yoongi and Hoseok dutifully carry in the last gift, with Seokjin preferring to stand and direct them critically, rather than help. Yoongi keeps his narrowed eyes trained on Seokjin the whole time.

When they're done, Seokjin stands back to admire his handiwork. There's a mountain of colourfully wrapped presents piled up, looking like a Christmas tree in the middle of the small, cosy living area.

"Not bad, if I do say so myself."

"Yourself?" Namjoon grumbles, "don't you think a little 'thank you' is in order?"

"Yes, yes, thank you guys," Seokjin mutters, already starting to run around the room adjusting bits and pieces, laying out blankets and cushions invitingly, fussing over making everything look just right.

"You do realise that now you've carted all this stuff here, you'll have to get it back to Jungkook's somehow? How exactly do you plan on doing that?" Hoseok asks.

"Oh," Seokjin waves a hand dismissively. "I'm sure you guys won't mind helping me out, right?"

"You're living on another planet if you think I'm doing that again, hyung."

"Aw, Joon, come on," Seokjin pouts. "After everything I've done for you?!"

"Absolutely not."

"You guys just want to stand in the way of true love!"

Yoongi snorts.

"True love?! Is that why you've bought half of Seoul for your new boyfriend, Jin hyung? What exactly are you trying to prove? Whatever happened to a thoughtful, personal gift, or something handmade-"

"Stop," Seokjin whines. "This is thoughtful. You guys haven't seen Jungkook's college apartment. It's so bare, I think him and Jimin literally share one towel! He deserves better. I just want to spoil him."

Namjoon snorts this time.

"Yeah, we can see that. But are you really in any position to spoil him, hyung? How on earth did you pay for all this, anyway? I know that little theatre isn't paying you that much."

"That's none of your business," Seokjin huffs, obstinately, inwardly reminding himself to check his credit card bill. "When I get a break and become a famous actor, I'll be able to really spoil him, just you wait and see."

"Right," Namjoon smiles, "except it kinda is my business when we live together, hyung...I hope you haven't spent the rent money on this little sugar daddy fantasy of yours."

"S-sugar daddy?!" Seokjin splutters. "Excuse me, that's not what this is."

"No," Yoongi shakes his head sadly. "Look at you, a sugar daddy without the sugar to back it up."

Seokjin narrows his eyes at his friends. "Don't you all have somewhere to be?"

He ushers them out, finally left in peace to wait for his favourite person.

When Jungkook arrives a couple of hours later, he hops out of Jimin's car eagerly, waving goodbye to his roommate and bounding up to the doorway with a grin. Seokjin chuckles, taking in Jungkook's costume from his latest part-time job.

"An elf?! Did you come to deliver presents, Kookie?"

"...that's Santa's job, silly," Jungkook says, very seriously. "Sorry, I didn't have time to change, I was gonna do that here-"

"Ah, come and open some presents first, baby," Seokjin insists, leading him into the warm cabin, pinching his ass as he does so. Jungkook looks round to smirk at him.

"I'd be delivering you coal, anyway," he says slyly, but Seokjin's more concerned with leading him to his mountain of gifts.

When Jungkook eyes the pile, he gawps, looking sweet, and dorky, and all the things that Seokjin loves about him. That's the reaction he wanted.

"Uh- uh, hyung, is all this for me?" Jungkook asks weakly.

Seokjin nods, coming up behind him to wrap his arms around his waist and rest his head on his shoulder.

"Merry Christmas, baby."

"Ah," Jungkook seems at a loss for words. "I didn't- I wasn't expecting anything, hyung, you already got us a weekend away together, I thought- I thought that was the gift..."

"Nonsense," Seokjin insists, "what kind of gift would that be? I had to get you something better than the Mario chair."

"Hyung," Jungkook breathes, "a weekend alone with you is better than a Mario chair. It's better than...a thousand Mario chairs. I thought you were the gift," Jungkook turns his wide eyes up to Seokjin, and Seokjin's ears turn a little pink. He clears his throat.

"Well, JK, how about you open some up now, huh? You can open some now and leave some for tomorrow-"

"Ah, hyung, can you open mine first?" Jungkook asks, looking sheepish. "It's nothing compared to all this, just open it now and get it out the way."

"Of course, Kookie," Seokjin coos, reassuringly, "I'm sure it's great."

Jungkook hands him a neatly wrapped, flat, package, and Seokjin tears into it eagerly. He pulls out a drawing on a piece of card, and holds it up to peer at it closely.

"Oh," he squeaks.

It's an incredibly realistic sketch of the two of them, cuddling and smiling in their winter clothes, and Seokjin can immediately tell which photo it's based on; a cute selfie they took while on an ice-skating date a few weeks ago. The amount of work Jungkook's put into it is obvious from all the little details, and the way he's captured the twinkling look in Seokjin's eye, it's- it's perfect.

"Kookie," Seokjin mumbles, and his lip starts to wobble furiously, despite himself, "it's perfect. I love it."

"It's nothing," Jungkook mutters, blushing and rubbing the back of his neck. "Compared to all this-"

"How do you manage it?!" Seokjin bursts. "This- this is so much better than what I got you. I can't believe this," he mutters to himself.

"Ah, hyung," Jungkook murmurs, "it's okay. Like I said, a weekend alone with you is the perfect gift," he smiles warmly. "Speaking of which...let me go and get out of this ridiculous costume."

"Hm," Seokjin considers, setting down the drawing carefully and returning to cuddling his boyfriend. "How about you keep it on?"

Jungkook quirks an eyebrow. "An elf? Really?"

"'tis the season," Seokjin smirks. "C'mon, baby, indulge me...don't be elfish."

Jungkook shakes his head. "You are something else, Jin hyung."
