Chapter Text
To say the Umbral Knight is bored would be an insult. When you die and somehow turned into a spirit now accompanying a child who seems to be the last hope for the kingdom, it never ceases to amaze him what fate has in storage. The Priestess or Lily was certainly an interesting child to say. She has a certain knack of exploring and coming out of somewhat dangerous odds whilst having a heart of pure gold.
That heart was able to save or at least lessen the pain of the blight on those whose sanity are still intact in their final moments. But it all comes with the price of having to bear the blight itself, to say the Umbral Knight wasn’t concerned would too be an insult.
Though his concerns are usually placated with each respite. It warmed not only his heart but the hearts of those Lily saved knowing that despite all the odds Lily was resting. It warmed even more when at times, Lily would fall asleep on one of the respites they arrived. It was adorable at best but sometimes they would stand guard in case the Blighted arrives.
Now, they were at one of the respites where it leads to both the Cliffside Hamlet and one other location they have yet to discover, the fight with Gerrod and his purification has taken it’s toll on the Priestess and under the recommendation and the concern of Siegrid and other spirits, Lily agreed to rest awhile, or take a little nap.
The Umbral Knight stood guard outside the little shack with Siegrid using her lap as a pillow for Lily, humming a tune while looking around, the other spirits either milling about taking in the scenery of death while others seem to take guard. The Knight could not help but take a glance or two at Lily every once in a while, he noticed that she was a little more frail and her hair was starting to show signs of the Blight.
So Frail but she still insists that she's fine
Yet she seemed so peaceful. Sleeping soundly in the midst of the rain while Siegrid hums a tune. It seemed so similar to those of a mother and her child whilst her father watches over them. Though he knows that this will not last forever, eventually she will wake up and again venture into the unknown saving those whose sanity are at least still intact and fighting against odds.
It was a grim future and a grim time she has awoken to, even the Knight wasn’t willing to wish it upon even his enemies.
Again he looked at the sleeping child, and despite all his thoughts about her grim future and her sealed fate. The Knight couldn’t help but smile at her form, a peaceful one amidst one of death.
Sleep just a little more, you’ll need it Lily
