Chapter Text

Hizashi is talking on the phone to Sho. About where he’s going to get dinner from tonight on the way back from. A shopping bag with a pot of coffee and a bag of cat food swinging from his arm. As his attention is drawn to something that would make his heart stop... if it was still beating that is. Standing atop a building is a green haired child in a black middle school uniform. Hizashi is confused for a split second as he sees the shoes on the edge next to him.

He feels his body lurch as the child jumps. His hands go lax, his phone and the bag in his hand clatter to the floor as he rushes forward. Using all his inhuman speed, he has to save this child. He has to catch him and save him and never let him go. Even it means turning him, he knows how. When did he learn that? He reaches out only to feels his soft curls brush through his fingers as he hits the ground.

"HIZASHI!" He can hear Sho shout through the phone.

Then the sweet smelling blood hits him like a truck and makes his brain reel.

“This may hurt but just for a moment.” Hizashi promises as he strokes the blood stained hair out of his face. The kid’s brow twitches in confusion as he tilts his head to one side, the light in his eyes seems to be as bright as ever. Hizashi sinks his fangs deep into the boy’s neck. Sweet blood and sour memories flowing into him.

Of being hurt.

Burns blistering across his freckled skin. Shoulders. Back. Neck. Legs. Arm. No place left unblemished and unmarked, raised white scars running all over his body, hidden by his black uniform. Blows raining down from various angles. And each one hurts. Bones snap, muscles tear and bruises dance across his skin. The silent tears that roll down his cheeks as he stands on shaky feet, using the wall as a crutch only to see more bullies incoming. Knowing the cycle will repeat. Forever because of factors outside of his control.

Being belittled.

Being told he was worthless. Useless. Just because he was quirkless. How he was told to- to kill himself and pray for a quirk in his next life. How just moments earlier he met All Might, his idol, his hero, his special interest since he was a child. How he used to obsess over everything All Might, adorned his room in All Might memorabilia, almost like a shrine. Only to be told he couldn't because he was quirkless.

Hizashi feels tears bead in his eyes at the way Izuku's soul broke. Shattered into a thousand pieces because he's been there, he's felt that hurt.

Of being ignored.

Of how teachers turned a blind eye. Ignoring his pain. Telling him off for being late. Giving him detentions when he showed up late after being brutally beaten. How after his quirklessness diagnosis his dad left. Divorced his mother and signed away his parental rights, stating he didn't want a quirkless freak in the family.

White hot anger floods his body. How dare they put this child down because of something outside of his control! How dare a man abandon him for something so stupid.

Of being loved.

A woman with green hair and eyes, mum. Cooking him his favourite meal, Katsudon. The loving gestures and kisses in his forehead, and the meals packed with love when she couldn’t be there. The small notes left around the house. The love was pure and never ending. And despite everything else going wrong he could cling to her like a rock in a storm. No matter what. Until he couldn't.

Hizashi audiably gasps as the next memory flows in.

Of loss.

How his mother died this morning in a villain attack at her agency. Some ex pro she cancelled for sexist and racist beliefs. How he found out at lunch but wasn’t allowed to leave because of school rules. How he was made to stay and be hurt and how with every taunt created more and more cracks in his psyche. Until the damn broke and he ended up here, in the arms of someone he views as a angel.

"Oh kid, if only you knew." Hizashi mumbles with tears in his eyes as he lets go. The kid, Izuku, flops back. The sparkle in his eyes growing dull. No no no! He can't let him die. He takes his fangs to his wrist and presses it to Izuku's mouth. Izuku keeps his mouth closed. "Come on kid." He says, forcing his mouth open a bit. He feels something pulse in his chest as Izuku latches on. Drinking deeply. It runs down his face and then his eyes flutter shut. He doesn't have long. He holds his hand out and his phone skitters along the ground into his hand.

“I swear if you somehow died I’m going too-" Sho says, halfway through a tirade. Hizashi winces and is glad their other husband is out on patrol.

“Shut up and bring a shovel and six bags of blood.” Hizashi says, cutting him off  with a curt tone. Gently moving Izuku so his face is pressed against his neck, in case he needs to eat. It feels right. Izuku even curls his body around his in response.

“What?” Sho says, sounding a little hurt. Hizashi blinks, he hadn't meant to come across like that he just knew he needed to get them both somewhere safe...

“I-I just made a fledgling.” He says, looking down at the transforming boy.
