“Enough I’m leaving.” He shouts, trying to keep his tough outer shell on although he was breaking inside, he hated arguing with Aziraphale. Well this felt like the first proper one if he was being honest with himself. “Crowley.” He hears an almost begging in the angel’s tone. There’s a beat. “You can’t leave, Crowley.” Another beat. Aziraphale swallows, he didn’t want to appear weak if this was their last moments together. Crowley turns, he’ll listen to the angel for now. “There isn’t anywhere to go.” The demon bites the inside of his cheek, his feet pulling him back towards the angel although he was uncertain whether he wanted to join the conversation again. He needed to prove that the angel wasn’t the only reason he stayed on this hell-forbidden earth. “Big Universe.” He starts, not feeling confident with his answer but he needs his angel to stay with him. “Even if this all ends up in a puddle of burning goo, we could go off together.” Crowley had his heart on his sleeve here, if Aziraphale fought with him on this he wouldn’t know how much longer he could hold on. “Go off together?” Aziraphale asks, he was in disbelief as to why the demon still stayed with him. “Listen to yourself.” The angel snaps, he wants Crowley to finally see some sense. A final beat, the demon’s attempt to find any way to save this. “How long have we been friends?” Aziraphale shakes his head. “Six thousand years?” Crowley keeps going. “Friends? We aren’t friends.” In that moment Crowley’s heart broke, his tough demeanor weakening. “We are an angel and a demon. We have nothing whatsoever in common. I don’t even like you.” Crowley steps back, crossing his arms in defence. “We’re on our side…” He puts his glasses on, if this was where the angel left him he didn’t want to cry, he didn’t want to seem like he was broken by this. “There isn’t an ‘our side’, Crowley. Not any more. It’s over.” A silence.
Crowley takes a deep breath knowing that he should leave, the sensible thing would be to leave. But something inside of him wanted to fight for this friendship, he couldn’t let six thousand years lead to nothing. “Don’t lie to me angel.” He snarls, stepping closer again but not in Aziraphale’s face. “Look me in the eyes and tell me we aren’t friends.” Crowley leans forward and takes off his glasses again, as he predicted, the angel couldn’t look him in the eyes. “W-we…” Aziraphale was becoming softer, the demon wouldn’t use the words weaker because that would be wrong. “Look at me.” The man moves a hand closer to the angel, resting it on his shoulders. Aziraphale blinked a few times before looking up, it was evident that he had been close to crying. “Tell me the truth.” Crowley knew that he was getting to the angel now, the muscles in his shoulder relaxing under the demon's touch. “I don’t want you to leave. Please don’t leave me.” The angel crumbles almost buckling at the knees from the emotion that hit him. Crowley slides his hand to the man’s cheek, rubbing a shaky thumb over it. “You’re shaking?” Aziraphale points out, subconsciously leaning into the man’s touch. “I was scared we were never going to see each other again. I couldn’t walk away and be left wondering what would happen if I didn’t.” He admits, feeling vulnerable sharing this information. “I was terrified you’d leave…I regret every word. It was like a different person was saying them.” Crowley pulls the man’s chin up gently and swallows; this was risky. He leans in and connects their lips, feeling his angel kiss back and he feels like crying, but for a different reason this time; an overwhelming sense of relief. “Zira?” He asks as he parts their lips, resting forehead against his angels. “I’m here. I’m here and I’m not leaving.”
