Distant Colours

Summary:

Riker looks over the crew roster for the USS Enterprise.

Notes:

Hi, long time no see yall!

Sorry I vanished for a little bit, I promise that the TOS WIP fics are still going to be continued, but as you can probably guess, I started TNG!

Not sure if you know this about me but I only started watching Star Trek this year, around June! So far I have seen TOS and I've just started TNG.

This is just a short little fic that I've had in my brain since I saw episode 1!

Work Text:

William T Riker was about to become the First Officer aboard the USS Enterprise, a Galaxy Class Starship. The Enterprise was home to over a thousand of people thanks to the fact that families were now permitted to live on the ship with their serving members.

A month ago, Riker had been provided with a list of all the personnel that would be serving on the Enterprise, as First Officer it was his job to understand all the crew’s needs. The majority of the crew was made up of humans, however, on the Bridge crew alone there was both a Betazoid and a Klingon. Said Betazoid was in fact half-human Deanna Troi, a woman Riker knew very well. They had been together for a short period of time; she was the person who brought Riker the closest he had ever come to wanting to settle down. But the call for the stars and their secrets always won out.

The Klingon that he would be serving with seemed fascinating in his own right, the first and only Klingon to enlist in Starfleet since the alliance between the race and the federation. His background showed that Worf had been raised on Earth after his biological parents had died, a curious case. Riker looked forward to getting to know the Klingon.

By far the most interesting person on the bridge crew on paper was the third in command of the ship, Lieutenant Commander Data. At first, Riker had been confused by the lack of a last name, then he became confused by just who would name their child Data. As he read further into the Officers profile, he realised that Data was in fact an android. He hadn’t met many androids in his past, certainly none that he would trust to be in control of a Galaxy Class Ship in an emergency.

Riker scrolled further down the profile and found the Academy portrait of the Lieutenant Commander; he was quite striking. The androids he had encountered in the past all had human skin tones and eye colours, designed to be pleasing to the eye. Data was pale, remarkably pale. His eyes were yellow, or maybe green? Will gulped slightly as he stared deeply into those eyes, what kind of person lay behind those eyes.

He was due to meet up with the ship at Farpoint station, there he would begin his duties as First Officer and his mission in the stars would start. Part of him was giddy, shaking with excitement at just what they would find out there. Currently, he was on a small transport ship heading towards the station. He’d packed only the essentials, if he needed anything else then he could probably find it at the station or onboard the Enterprise.

For now, his adventure began.
