Sneaking Around

Summary:

“You need to quit looking at me like that in public, Hotshot,” Toph said when she’d heard him shuffle into the random, empty conference room she found. It seemed spacious and the doors locked – it was enough to make her happy. “It’s going to get me caught.”

–or–

Toph and Kanto have some forbidden fun at work :)

Work Text:

The wall was cold against Toph’s back, but she felt warm everywhere. Hot , even. Her hands explored his body hungrily, her breath mixing with his. Their heaves and gasps were silent, but she could hear them and she could feel the vibrations of their sounds through the earth beneath the foot that remained on the ground, the other wrapped around his hip. His hands, as hungry and curious as hers, were everywhere and nowhere at once and she wanted more.

The sensation was unmatched. Unlike any that she’d ever endured.

And maybe it was because it was all new to her – being in a relationship like this – that she was feeling so good. Or maybe it was the sensationalism of the prospect of them being caught in an act that they should not have even fathomed in the first place. They were in the Capitol building, after all. It wasn’t like they didn’t know that they could be caught. But they couldn’t resist.

It’d been something in the way he was standing and the way that his heart was beating that made her want to steal him away and pull him into the nearest empty room that time. On other occasions, it was the way he would brush his fingers against her thigh or mistakenly bump into her on his way into a briefing.

Today, though, in the meeting they and a million other meatheads were in, she could feel his eyes on her, making her want to squirm. And she knew that he knew what he was doing. She knew it. And so did he, as he always did.

So she abruptly stood up while Councilman Numbnuts was talking about some bullshit she didn’t care about knowing that Kanto would follow closely behind her in no time flat.

“You need to quit looking at me like that in public, Hotshot,” Toph said when she’d heard him shuffle into the random, empty conference room she found. It seemed spacious and the doors locked – it was enough to make her happy. “It’s going to get me caught.”

“First of all,” he said, mercilessly pulling her flush against him and pressing his mouth to her ear. “You wish you could see how I look at you.”

Toph just hummed, too distracted to come up with a quip.

He’d begun to leave a trail of slow, wet, and warm kisses down her neck next. “And second of all, you’re not the only one whose job is on the line here, Chief, so we’d both be getting caught, wouldn’t we?”

Not being able to resist it anymore, she grabbed him by the collar and pulled him onto her lips. And her body was on fire. This wasn’t the first time this happened between them. It’d been one of many

And she didn’t want it to end.

Toph’s uniform armor slipped off her shoulders and onto the ground with a clang, and Kanto’s mouth found a sensitive spot on her neck that he regularly took advantage of during their impromptu rendezvous. She had to bite back a moan as he worked his way down to her collarbone and sucked.

But as he ran a slow finger down the length of her sternum, causing her skin to prickle, she felt some additional heartbeats approaching, owned by the heavy footsteps of three of the councilmen whose names she never bothered to learn. Reluctantly, she put her hands on his chest. “Hotshot, cut it– ah, cut it out.”

Hotshot did not, in fact, cut it out. Instead, he cupped her backside and squeezed, bringing his lips to hers again, making her gasp pleasurably. And as much as she didn’t want it to stop, she bit his bottom lip. Hard.

“Geez, Chief,” Kanto said quietly after recoiling. She noticed him bring a hand up to his mouth to rub his wounded lower lip. “I didn’t know you were into biting.”

Toph scoffed at him as she adjusted her undershirt and bent her armor back on in haste. “I’m not, but you wouldn’t listen, so that was the next best thing.”

She could feel him looking at her, not sensually, but confusedly. “Is… is someone coming?”

“No, no,” she aggressively whispered, irony dripping from her tone as she readjusted her headpiece and pressed her heel into the ground to properly locate their company. “I’ve just chosen to stop this before it got good for shits and giggles.”

Kanto was silent for a moment as he fixed himself up again. “I don’t appreciate the sarcasm, but I do appreciate the fact that you think that what happens after this is good. I’m actually flattered.”

“Yeah, don’t let it get to your head. It’s big enough as it is.”

“Ouch.”

“Would you shut up? We’re going to get caught.”

She heard him huff and had to resist the smirk creeping onto her face. Leaning toward the door, she attempted to listen in on the councilmen, Kanto doing the same after a while. The men seemed to have stopped walking down the corridor and were engaged in conversation.

“Are you sure she went this way?” one of them asked the other two.

A brief silence. “Pretty sure. And he followed, so there must be something going on, ah?”

Toph had to physically bite her tongue before she yelled anything but pleasantries at them. The worst thing about being the chief of a police department, other than the tough cases, was that she was the only woman in such a powerful position in the station, and that came with misogyny. Not that she wasn’t already used to it, but that didn’t mean that it didn’t absolutely irk her.

Gumflappers.

“If there is something going on,” said the other, “we can make a case for her to step down. And Spirits know that she should.”

“Right. She’s too… ambitious for this position. And we all know she got it because she’s friends with Avatar Aang and Fire Lord Zuko.”

Toph felt her blood boil at that last one. If there was anything she could say for herself was that she earned every single thing she had ever gotten. She worked her ass off and worked it toward her goals. Not one thing had been handed to her throughout her life, and when something was offered to her, she made sure that she deserved it before making a move to accept it.

Her fists were curled at her sides and her chest was rising and falling in ire. But despite how much she wanted to bash each of their heads in, she had to remain composed; it wasn’t the right time to attack. As she took a few calming breaths, though, Kanto approached the door.

“What the hell do you think you’re doing, Hotshot?” She asked, her hand covering the one he had on the doorknob in an attempt to get him to let it go.

“They need to shut up,” Kanto said, a tone she hadn’t heard from him before. Was that… anger? He was usually very calm and collected around her and the change in attitude was surprising to her, to say the least.

Her eyebrow raised. “And you’re going to shut them up?”

“Why not? It’s not like they don’t deserve it.”

“They’re not worth it. Let it go.”

You’re telling me to walk away from a fight right now? Is hell freezing over?”

She tsked, successfully pulling his hand off the knob. “Funny. And as much as I’d love to experience you kicking their asses into next Sunday, Hotshot, they are not worth it. You got it?”

“But I-”

“You what ? Wanted to defend my honor?” Toph asked, placing her hands on her hips. “My honor doesn’t need defending, and I have made that abundantly clear on numerous occasions.”

“No, I know but-”

“You’re into me and you couldn’t resist? Understandable.”

“Are you-”

“Ever going to let you finish a sentence? I don’t think-”

His lips were on hers and her words became muffled until she melted into him. Her hands rested on his chest and his were around her waist, pulling her closer and closer until their bodies were flush against each other. After a few moments, he pulled away and rested his forehead against hers.

She sighed. “You’re lucky you’re good at that.”

He smiled and gave her another peck. “You think they’re gone?”

“Fuck knows,” Toph said, stepping away from him and onto the table behind them. “But I know we’ll be gone for a while.”
