Chapter 1: Road To Hell

Chapter Text

"Tell us the story again, Kurogiri!" Himiko bounced on the balls of her feet.

"Again?" Sighing, Spinner flopped down on the old couch. "We hear it almost daily."

"It's a good story, Spinner!" The blonde-bunned girl shot back, cheeks puffing out in frustration.

"Alright. Let's set the story up, then." Kurogiri said with a good-hearted chuckle, amused by Himiko's enthusiasm. "You know how it goes."

With unparalleled excitement, Himiko started. "There once was a city that was divine,"

"Don't ask where, brother, or sister - or both! ," Twice shook his head from the sudden outburst. "Don't ask when!"

"Until the city fell - on hard times." The golden-eyed man continued, starting to pick up the empty liquor bottles strewn across the bar. He glanced over to Tomura to cue in the young man's favorite line.

Tomura smiled a bit. "It became a world of villains…and sin."

"It's an old song," Mr. Compress' melodic voice filled the air as he walked into the room, having heard it begin from the room over.

"It's an old tale from way back when!" Magne added, handing Kurogiri a trash bag as she popped out from behind the purple curtain.

"It's an old song," Kurogiri agreed. "But we're gonna sing it again." Taking the trash bag and nodding a thank you , he continued.

"Villains and sin, alright!" Twice reached for a beer bottle. "You know, we got some villains in this house tonight!"

"See, in this city, it's like the sun never shines." Spinner said.

" Spinner, this isn't a My Chemical Romance concert, chill out ." Twice said.

"Jin! Back to the story!" Toga lightly punched his shoulder.

"Oh, yeah!" Twice opened the bottle. "And there were three siblings, last name the same,"

"Natsuo, Fuyumi, and Shoto!" Toga jumped up, buns bouncing, as she grabbed the wooden broom from the corner.

Kurogiri nodded, getting a rag to wipe the counter down. "And they were always there in the back of your mind; as you two said, the Fates."

"Now in this city, the sun never shines," Shigaraki said.

"And there was a lady steppin' off a train," Twice added.

"With a suitcase full of summertime!" Toga said. "She was really pretty~!"

Fidgeting with his gloves, Shigaraki went next. "Rei Himura, by name."

Kurogiri picked up a shot glass from the shelf to polish it. "And if you ride that train,"

"Ride that train!" Magne and Toga sang.

"If you ride that train," A dull clink accompanied Kurogiri's line.

"Ride that train!" Twice joined in with the two women.

"If you ride that train to the end of the line," Kurogiri turned around.

"Where the sun don't shine," Mr. Compress gestured for a wine bottle.

Twice sipped his own drink. "And he's pretty shady."

"It's there, you'll find the king, all malign." Kurogiri handed Mr. Compress the bottle he requested.

"'Almighty,'" Spinner remarked with air quotes. "Mr. Endeavor."

"Anyone else?" Kurogiri asked.

"How's this one someone you forgot?" Toga giggled.

"Now in this city, they wanted liberation!" Spinner, getting into the spirit, began a small beat on the bartop.

"There was a man with warp gates, oh what a feat," Twice leaned back on his stool. "Who would help you to your final destination!"

"Kurogiri - that's me." The suited man filled in.

"See, someone's got to tell the tale!" Magne added.

"Whether or not it turns out well!" Twice sang along, adding snaps to Spinner's beat.

"Maybe it will turn out this time," Toga perked up, hopeful glint in her eyes.

Shigaraki scratched his neck. "In that old city, that was once divine."

"It's a sad song," Twice set his bottle down on the bartop.

"It's a sad tale, it's a tragedy," Mr. Compress made a gesture of taking off his hat in respect.

"It's a sad song. But we're gonna sing it anyway." Magne reminded them, patting Mr. Compress on the back.

"Now, not everyone gets to the top," Shigaraki said.

"And don't forget that times were hard," Kurogiri picked up Twice's empty bottle. "Hard times in the world of humans,"

"Now let's learn about a few of them!" Toga cheered.

"Don't forget the hard-working heroes, all around the world," Kurogiri said.

"In this city that was once divine," Mr. Compress said. "There was a young man down on bended knee."

Kurogiri took off his bar apron.  "His mama used to be a friend of mine. And this boy was a hero's son."

"In this city, where the sun don't shine," Toga said.

"You might say the boy was touched by the gods themselves," Mr. Compress said.

"Touya…Todoroki." Kurogiri said.

"There was one more soul on that road," Toga sang, amber eyes shining.

"Boy needed to get out of the cold," Twice agreed.

"In this old city, where the sun don't shine," Spinner said.

"There was a young boy looking to be elite," Shigaraki added.

"And brother, thus begins the tale," Twice said, accompanied by Mr. Compress clapping to the beat. "Of Touya Todoroki…"
"And Keigo Takami!" Toga carried on, doing a little twirl as she put the broom back with a dull thunk against the brick wall.

"It's a love song!" Magne added.

Toga sat down on a bar stool, a smile showing sharp white teeth. "It's a tale of a love from long ago!"

"It's a sad song," Mr. Compress nodded, sitting on the bartop.

"It's an old song, an old tale from way back when." Magne sat down beside Toga. "It's a tale of love that never dies,"

"It's an old song," Kurogiri looked down and sighed, moving the final bottle out of the way. "About someone… who tries."
