If he were made to choose what he adored most about the holidays and if someone were to press him enough he would say that the bells were his favorite thing.
They always brought such nostalgia from his youth when he was a child, watching the snow fall on to the ground from the window as the pretty lights reflected off the glass and he could see the outline of their tree. Even if he wasn't allowed outside at the time he still found it utterly enchanting when he could hear the bells ringing when he'd go out or opened the door to listen to the carolers while making sure his scarf kept him from breathing in the cold air too sharply.
While he was able to hear the bells, smell hot cocoa or tea and even feel the ornaments he would put on the tree...he couldn't quite see since that one day he had acid thrown right into his eyes that ate at the skin and made him unable to view the world any longer. Still he enjoyed this time of year as he usually was with those he loved and who loved him. He sighed softly as he walked through his home, feeling for the familiar nook by the large bay windows.
Though while he made it no secret that his favorite thing was those lovely metallic orbs that made that soft jingling sound...there was another reason he loved their sound.
Kagaya hummed as he settled himself calmly in his favorite space and rested his head against the cool glass. He closed his eyes as he managed to bring up the memory of the one who introduced him to the bells when they were young. When he still could see and was so in love he could float on air. His heart was soaring and his face was always flushed either from the chill or just being close to the man he was in love with.
Though nowadays he can't help but wonder if his lover was happy living with him with his current predicament. Not even the winter holidays could make his self doubt go away. Even if he had been by his side after it happened five years ago, there was always that little monster in the back of his mind trying to play on his fears. The fears of being abandoned, of not being enough of never-
Rnglrnglrngl...
He was pulled out of the rabbit hole when the jingling of the bells is rung beside his ear and he jumped a bit.
"I know that look," a familiar voice hisses.
He blinked his opaque eyes a moment before he smiled a bit when he hears the familiar voice, "Ha...what look hmm?"
It's then he felt a soft kiss against his temple and he starts to relax, "The one you make when you're going down a thought rabbit hole...especially one that makes you unhappy...are we on the self-doubt one again?" the familiar cool hand gently brushed some of his hair back behind his ear, "My my, and on your favorite time of the year too..."
Kagaya chuckled softly, "Hmm...it's just...even after five years everything is still an adjustment..." he slowly moved his hand up the other's arm to slowly move it up towards the pretty face that he could always see in his mind. When he can feel the familiar cool cheek, he gently moved his hand up more and plays with a lock of the dark wavy hair.
"Hmm...for someone still adjusting you've learned so very well..."
"Well I couldn't have done it without your support..." He closed his eyes when he feels both cool hands holding his face now, "It happened so fast after the divorce...i couldn't believe Amane's brother..." he trailed off before he closed his eyes.
What a rough year that had been. He knew Amane would never want to hurt him, especially since they both decided to do it amicably, splitting the custody evenly and making sure their five children understood it wasn't their fault and that they both were still fond of each other as friends. Then came his beloved with those plum red eyes and a face as pale as fresh snow...
He's cut off by a gentle kiss, "None of that now...this is a happy time and soon your children will be arriving as well as your dear friends..to celebrate with you and to make sure you're having fun..."
Rnglrnglrngl...
Kagaya chuckled when he hears the bells feeling something inside him grow lighter at their soft sound. It brings him some comfort as he rested his head on the other's shoulder.
"Now...something more important; do you like my bell bracelet?" he could feel the hand move from his face to take one of his.
He gasps a little when he feels the bracelet before he chuckled softly, "Why...Muzan. I thought you were purely a halloween lover..."
"Hmm, well they made Nightmare Before Christmas...I think I could learn to love both holidays...especially when it's you I'm celebrating with..."
Muzan hummed as he sits down slowly beside his blind lover, pulling him to him gently. He knows once those people arrived they would tell Kagaya about the warm ugly Christmas sweater he had to psych himself up to wear with a light up reindeer on it. The one Kagaya had picked out to wear for a Christmas photo but hadn't had the time to plan it. So now he was sacrificing some of his dignity just to make sure Kagaya's head wouldn't go to a bad place.
"Hmm...when did you become so sappy?"
He cracked a red eye open at his blind lover before snorting, "Since I started dating you, you hopeless romantic. You've rubbed off on me...practically infected me with all that mushy stuff..." he snorted before he rested his head on his to look out the window.
Kagaya smiled a bit as he slowly took the hand with the bell bracelet and sighed.
"..Muzan?"
"Hmm?"
"...Tell me what it's like outside please."
Muzan slowly smiled before he leaned his chin on his head and began to quietly whisper to him, describing the wintery wonderland outside this window as he feels his lover lightly play with the bell bracelet.
What a wonderful memory to have.
