Chapter 1: Twister
The more her heart’s speedometer pushed against the gauge’s limits
The more certain Amanda was she needed ultimate speed
The Indy 500 didn’t do it for her
Wattage her obsession couldn’t hold
Yet with Calypso’s road map, the track explodes into formula focus
She’s racing there, driving rubber-burningly fast
Till there are no wheels on her wheeling time vessel
A blue arrow sailing, lightspeed, past all finish lines throughout the millions
A tornado spinning back
To the American Dream
Of the American Midwest
To the American Wild West
Further than anyone ever has passed, into the sea of the past
Fossilized underneath a dinosaur’s foot
Twisted Metal’s own Twister
Now but natural history’s unnatural helmet

Chapter 2: Axel
Bound in his father’s hellish contraption
The son who was always too slow, too damn stupid
Thirty years on the wheels
Supernova spreading through his arms
Shockwave through his legs
Ten more years, if the man Axel disowns had his wish granted
But that hayseed didn’t win Calypso’s contest
It was the slave boy the farmer locked up who stood before him now
Calypso honours his word
But it is gory still
Axel ripping himself off the axle with the strength given to him
He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity
He that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword
Here is the patience and the faith of the saints
REV 13:10
God, the lesson he’s learned

Chapter 3: Shadow
Death is best contemplated in the sanctity, solace, seclusion, and security of one’s coffin
In uninterrupted, not uninterred or untimely sleep
These tired, lazy bones seeking retirement
But first, repayment
Not a prize as others have sped to their graves for a chance to obtain
Revenge for the souls of the men and women ran down in Calypso’s competition
The poor people hiring the shadow corpse to drive them to the one who knows the truth
The haunted, very strange cargo resting in the back
For when they’ll be taken out
To take Calypso out
Spirit him above the busy world
To his hellish destruction
Clinging to dear life on the night winds
Carried on the airplane

Chapter 4: Sweet Tooth
A reflection of flesh-eating flame in the truck’s headlights
The deadlight explosion in the night sky and a frothing needle-filled mouth
Of the carnivorous clown hiding under your bed
Once the circus’ crazy companion
Then the state institute’s happy boogeyman
Madness’ final escape to the tiny little country garden
Sweet Tooth’s penny-wise rest. His detached retirement
His dead-eyed, detached dream reality
Making friends with the other insects
Downsized, relaxed, and peaceful as a bug
Crawling between the tiny little corpses and insect blood
The tendency to kill, unfaded. Still his love
Looking up, to the world of man
Hello there, neighbour! Are you a fan?
Anybody up for some glorious ice cream?

Chapter 5: Grasshopper
From the playpen, to motels, to the back seat, to the grave
Daddy crashed the car breakneck into the blue embers of Hell
His bubble-blowing girl scared and hurt, unlike the wife who detested him from the tire fire
Father and daughter died, but the ash-man sent Calypso back almost killed
Honey came jumpin’ onto the roof, into his arms?
Can this be?
Strong? No, a machine
A cyborg rebuilt with the LAPD’s bomb
The pigs’ property. They helped her remember her father’s name
For her to lie, leap n’ slam into his contest
Krista Sparks sparks
A sorry explosion
Reunited in metal and flames as they were first death
Satan’s ant and the grasshopper

Chapter 6: Dark Tooth
The Mass Transit Railway isn’t a safe harbour
For the enemies, they’re there to be toasted
By the laughing black truck, with its reigning turns
Of pink-spotted, rezoning destruction
Look, he has treats – Hong Kong Krunch!
Eyes and ears, noses and shrivelled lips. Defrosted from the freezer
Sprinkles from the City of Angels
That last year’s contest crushed
Hope they like their ice cream double-dipped in sewage
Served in cones that’d set one’s hair ablaze in rising flames
Like the son they killed. His little clown boy
Because the senile fool rolls over cabs
U SCREAM, “Insanity, was it passed down?”
Brothers, they invited murder
But fathers, they grin with a dark tooth
