Chapter Text
It started out like every other day. Izuku Midoriya woke up at sunrise to help his mother, Inko, with the animals. He gathered the eggs from the chickens and milk from the cows and goats, while his mother fed the animals. They then went inside with everything they had collected and Inko started to make breakfast. As the Midoriyas ate, someone knocked on their door. Izuku got up to answer it before his mother could stop him. When he opened it, he saw that it was a messenger with a letter from King Endeavor of the Todoroki kingdom. The letter read:
“Dear Izuku Midoriya,
I have heard you are a swordsman of immense skill and knowledge, and I have a job for you. This job is of great importance and I will only hire the best for this job because it has to do with the youngest Todoroki prince. This job is to deliver Prince Shoto Todoroki safely to the Yaoyorozu Kingdom for an arranged marriage. This marriage is of great importance because it will create an alliship of two of the most powerful kingdoms in the bonds of marriage. If you take on this mission I will pay you with your weight in silver before you go out and once you have returned with the married couple, I will pay you your weight in gold. Once you have decided your answer please send it in a letter with the messenger who brought you this letter.
King Endeavor,
Of the Todoroki Kingdom.”
Izuku immediately knew his answer, but he had to check with his mother first. He let the messenger boy in, who he learned was named Tenya Iida and was a knight. He gave him some water and breakfast while he got him settled in the living room then went to discuss the letter from King Endevor with his mother.
“Hey mom I got a job offer from King Endeavor, but I have to go on a trip to a different kingdom.” Izuku said in a worried tone even though his mom has never said no without wanting to know more about the job offer.
“Well how long would you be gone for and how far will you have to go? And how much is he going to pay you?” Inko asked, looking a little worried but still trying her best to be supportive.
“I will have to go to the Yaoyorozu kingdom and I do not have a set amount of time I will be away. He said he will pay me my weight in silver before I go and once back he will pay me my weight in gold.” Izuku said, he said the end more confidently.
“Okay and what do you need to do in this job?” Inko asked,
“I will need to bring Prince Shoto Todoroki, the youngest Todoroki, to the kingdom of Yaoyorozu safely for the arranged marriage between him and Princess Momo Yaoyorozu, so that their kingdoms form an alliance in the bonds of marriage.” Izuku said confidently.
“Oh, so you will be the prince’s personal guard for this trip to deliver him to a girl he has possibly never met before to get married for the sake of their kingdoms?” Inko said, a slight angry tone in her voice but it was mostly covered by the skepticism at what her son just said.
“When you put it that way it sounds pretty bad, but it will benefit both of their kingdoms and maybe they are friends?” Izuku said the last part hopefully but he also thought that the whole idea of the arranged marriage was not really that great, but he understood that there are just somethings in life that you have no choice but to do. Inko just raised one eyebrow at her son.
“I do not believe that the youngest of the Todoroki princes has ever met Princess Momo Yaoyorozu, n’or do I believe they have ever communicated in any way.” Iida said as he came into the kitchen after hearing the last part of the Midoriyas’ conversation in relation to the job offer from King Endeavor.
“Oh, well that is just awful. Those poor kids, being forced to marry a complete stranger. Oh, these poor kids.” Inko said, as she shook her hung head, tuting.
“Well we should not speak on matters we do not know and have no experience with.” Izuku said trying to get his mom to see that if he does this job they won’t have to worry about money for many years and his mother’s bakery could be a hobby and not their only means of income when he is not getting any good job offers.
“Oh, I know sweetheart but the idea of marrying off a child is just against my moral code. You’re right honey, sorry for judging.” Inko apologized.
“So can I take this job offer from the king, please mom?” Izuku asked hopefully.
“Well, you are a very skilled swordsman and his majesty did promise you a very large reward for taking on this quest. Do you really want to do this? It will be a very long and tiring journey. Are you sure?” Inko asked, making sure her son was sure.
“Yes I am completely sure. I will go write my answer to the king.” Izuku said, clearly filled with determination and energy.
“If you can be ready to go in an hour, then you can come with me back to the castle and you can tell the king that you have accepted his offer in person. All you need to bring are your own clothes and possibly a sleeping bag and if you have a sword you would rather use, rather than a sword provided by the castle” Iida said with a glint in his eye and his tone lighter as he realized that he could make his job easier and still be able to sleep at night, not feeling guilty for being lazy.
“Yeah! I can be ready in probably half an hour and then we can get going!” Izuku said and with that he ran up the stairs to go pack his bag.
