Let’s be real here: I’m in love

Summary:

God made all his kids’ gifts set in different parts of the world around the late 1900s.

Chapter 1: Couldn’t be familiar!

Chapter Text

“Where did you get that?” A blade that could kill any celestial being was being held by Lucifer’s brothers.

No, not Micheal, although that would be as surprising.

“Stole it from Azrael when she wasn’t looking. Amazing how you can steal a lot from her when she is busy,” A soft smile splayed itself across the youngest angel. Uriel.

Lucifer stared in disbelief, his mouth slightly agape as his eyes stilled their sights on the silver blade. Uriel strode a one-half of a step down the stairs from where he had stood. His smile dropped, quickly turning into a soft frown.

“What are you going to do with that? That… that blade can kill celestials!” Lucifer blurted, his stomach dropped into a heating pile of anger. Stepping back, the elder’s back hit against a broken pew*, his eyes glanced at the item before hearing Uriel’s soft chuckles. Chills.

“I wouldn’t have stolen Azzy’s knife if I hadn’t known that, would I, Luci?” Uriel ludicrously stated, pointing the tip at him, “Dad didn’t necessarily say I have to bring mom home… I could easily wipe her-”

“You will NOT be laying a single hand on mum!” Lucifer interrupted, his body launching itself to be at least 2.5 feet away from his younger brother. Uriel stopped, his eyes meeting Lucifer’s cold brown ones, his voice silent.

A chilling silence sat in the room between the two angels, Lucifer’s stance readying to pounce. His legs widened, his feet planted in a sturdy position, his head pinned to the place where Uriel stood.

“You really think I would just go after mom?” Uriel laughed coldly, “You think I haven’t noticed your little new friend? Hah! Would you care even more if I went after both of them?”

Lucifer’s blood ran cold, his eyes blurred as he glared at his younger brother. Strands of black covered his forehead, his suit stuck to him like rat glue. The younger angel merely smirked, his eyes glistened with malicious intent.

“Is that what got you more worked up about?”

“...” Lucifer softly exhaled, his eyes readjusted as Uriel came close.

“Humanity made you pathetic Lucifer,” Uriel snarled, his hand slashing at the thick air, “Just admit it”. His first move. Lucifer dodged to the left, his hand swiftly reaching for Uriel’s wrist to stop his second attack. But what came unexpectedly is that Uriel’s free-hand sucker-punched him in the nose.

Lucifer reeled backward, the feeling of blood dripping down his lower face. More strands of loose hair came forward, his entire suit now feeling like he just come out of a sauna. Uriel grunted, his eyes fixated on his older brother.

“Uriel, you can turn back, Dad is just a controlling prick that-”

“If I don’t kill mom, how can I prove myself worthy of being his son? I already know you aren’t. And now Amenadiel!” Uriel shouted, his eyes narrowed at the brit, and lunged forward, “If I listen to you, I might lose my divinity.”

Lucifer stumbled backward against the broken pew again, his eyes darted around to find some sort of weapon to hold himself against Uriel. Seeing a single broken beam, Lucifer rushed over to it, the blade missing his arm by 2 inches.

Uriel growled softly, taking a long stride to where Lucifer struggled to get the broken beam. Yanking out the wood with all of his might, Lucifer stood, his back toward Uriel.

“That is a bad idea, brother,” Uriel said softly, his eyes calculating what Lucifer’s next move was as he cautiously stepped toward him. Lucifer’s grip on the beam tightened, his stomach filled with uncertainty and anxiety.

Uriel took a step forward, his final one before the Archangel pivoted himself around, the wood bean hitting Uriel’s kneecaps with such momentum that there was a sickly crack.

The younger angel’s eyes shot open, a sudden crackle of lava-like pain went down to his kneecaps. His hand had forgotten its task and dropped the blade, Uriel collapsing onto the ground as he cradled his legs.

“You… you heathen..!” Uriel croaked. Lucifer huffed in exhaustion, reaching down for the blade. Uriel eyes what his brother was doing, Lucifer’s hand latched onto his scalp and pulled Uriel’s bowed head up to face him. The blade near Uriel’s stomach.

A vague chill of burning ice pooled in that one single area.

“You will not be touching Chloe or mum,” Lucifer retracted his hand from Uriel’s hair, the blade sliding into the Archangel’s suit pocket, “Go home to dear old dad.”

…….

And then, Lucifer just… left. Uriel didn’t know how long he sat there, his legs aching with such pain. After what seemed like multiple hours, the angel sat up, his legs tremoring at the sudden bodyweight being put on them.

Uriel inhaled heavily as he took his first step, his legs were in no condition to be walking after such a blow, but right now Uriel needed to find a place to unfurl his wings safely. His legs felt like they were bound to crumble into ashes as he came to the small spot from where he landed in the old church previously.

The angel put most of his strength into unfurling his wings, his shoulder blades spasming when the wings didn’t appear. He huffed in frustration, trying again.

“Damnit!” The tired angel cried as he tried again, the wings didn’t appear. Uriel softly sobbed, his eyes began to water as he knelt down to the ground.
Is… is father punishing me? Fo- For not bringing mom home? Uriel thought, his hands trembling as he stood up slowly. He closed his eyes as his brain immersed itself in more thoughts.

What if… what if he thinks I am not strong enough to bring her home? What if he thinks…

“...Am I weak?” Uriel softly murmured to himself, his head tilting towards the open skylight towards the heavens. His walls finally crumble after so many millennia of keeping his true feelings in.

Uriel’s heart ached as he sobbed, his eyes crying immense tears. “I’m sorry, dad, I’m sorry for being weak..”

“Please, forgive me, please forgive me for not following your rules…”Uriel trailed off, his eyes following to the busy, lively street out of the church, “...Please forgive me… for the next rule I will disobey…”

His legs lifted him up, single steps turned into 10s. The young angel shivered as the cold autumn air met his skin. The sun had already set, leaving a beautiful streak of purple from where it had last set with shades and hues of pink, red, orange, yellow, and a little bit of blue.

...

Uriel hadn’t known the time currently, but it seemed like it was past most stores’ closing time. His mind and eyes wandered around, soaking in the beauty of LA. The sunset was faster than Uriel expected, the air becoming freezing to the point where his heated breaths liquified in the air.

The angel sighed, his eyes peered at the open stores (which was little to none) that would take him in. Uriel shivered at the air temperature dropping, even more, seeing that he was nearing Lucifer’s stupid nightclub. He gave up at this point, just heading into the nearest store he could find and sitting into the nearest seat.

Dear dad, his legs were killing him.

Uriel shuddered in satisfaction as he slowly sat, closing his eyes to relish the fact that most of the pain went away in an instant.

Tilting his head back, he opened his eyes to find myself staring into another person’s eyes.

The angel jolted backward, hitting his head against the large windowpane that suddenly appeared there to his knowledge.

“FUCKING- FUCKING HELL, DON’T EVER DO THAT!” Uriel screeched, his hands going into a defensive pose. The other person moved slightly, their hand brushing away loose strands of hair from their eyes. Uriel grumbled at their passive behavior and rolled his eyes, relaxing and slumping on top of the table.

“I’m deeply sorry sir, but our staff has noticed that it is past our closing time, I do want to say you should leave, but,” They stopped and looked at Uriel’s knees, “You look like you are… injured.”

Uriel quirked his eyebrows, instantly looking down to where the person was looking: his knees. He held in a muffled cry when he straightaway saw the giant, bleeding gash on his right (or was it left? Uriel forgot at that moment) knee. The person winced at this and came closer to the young angel.

“Sir are you sure you don’t want hel-”

“I- I think I can handle it myself, thank you for the offer though, human,” Uriel softly said, sliding off of his seat to stand. The person hesitated to get closer, moving slightly but stopped.

Uriel successfully slid down, his legs wobbling unsteadily as they nearly gave out. The angel yelped as he crashed down onto the ground, another sickly cracking sound emitting from the dangerous action. The person let out a small squeal, sliding down to Uriel’s level, reaching for his shoulder.

“Are you ok, sir? Are you sure you don’t want help?”The worker asked, eyeing his wound harshly. Uriel’s chest began to rise up and down in a quick motion, his body feeling like he was hit again.

“Goddamnit, Ink called the ambulance! We got another dude hurt!”The other yelled, his eyes covered by a pair of sunglasses.
