Work Text:

Warmth.

A loose haired redhead breathed peacefully as her arm wrapped softly around the body of the weretiger who is lying flat on the futon with his sunset eyes shut. It has been months since they have officially declared together as couple. It wasn't easy for both from them as they come from a place where they were treated as trash rather than human beings then placed in a world where humans with lethal abilities can annihilate the world with a snap of their fingers.

They are both outcast, alone, and afraid yet they yearn for love and comfort from those around them. It took a while for them to come around, even though they have made amends after Atsushi's 'attempt' at rescuing her from Moby Dick. What swept her off her toes was Atsushi's reason for sticking with her. He wasn't interested in the looks; he was more interested in the person themself. Their flaws, strength, and quirkiness that makes a person unique.

She challenged by asking why her and not the former assassin. She already knew the obvious answer but that didn't stop Atsushi from revealing his truth.

"You make me smile just by being with you."

This was his declaration of devotion to Lucy.

She will never forget the night when Atsushi held as she let out her tears of resentment that she has held on for many years.

She smiled at the memory.

However tonight she had another dream, a dream that kept her awake at night.

"You can't sleep?" Atsushi asks rubbing his eyes.

Lucy sighed. "Yes, it's just." She bit her lip. "I've been thinking."

Atsushi opened his eyes and looked down at Lucy's head only seeing her red hair.

"Do you want to talk about it?"

Lucy smile slightly at question. There is no other guy that understand her just like him.

"It's just, what would have been like if we didn't meet each other you know?"

She pauses for a brief second.

"I mean I am grateful that you are here with me right now, but I couldn't help myself but wonder what life would be like if we haven't down at the cell in the Moby Dick."

Atsushi contemplate on Lucy's words and provides his logic. "We probably would be stuck in a cycle of never-ending loathe."

Lucy's head slightly rose to meet Atsushi's tired yet arousing eyes.

"You would still be stuck in a cycle where you constantly need to place boarders around yourself because you feel that nobody knows what it is like to be an orphan who was tortured for being you. I would also be stuck in rut where I don't deserve to live, that I would just be another waste of resource because nobody understands what I have been through."

Atsushi then lifts his hand to caress Lucy's left cheek. "Without each other," He whispered. "We wouldn't be here by now."

Moved by his words, Lucy lean in and kissed Atsushi tenderly and gently.

Few months ago, their cheeks would have been redder than tomato but now they can just smile and let their eyes do the talking.

Their lips parted and Lucy settled down to her body pillow giving a gentle squeeze.

"I love you." She muttered.

Atsushi tiredly smiled. "I love you too."

- An Hour Later-

"Now what the ... are you doing parking your car in my driveway!?"

Her left eye opened in annoyance by the tone of the voice as she buried herself further into her boyfriend's torso.

Atsushi grasp tighter to Lucy's waist to suppress the yelling from outside.

"My lot is full lady; I have to make room."

She winced at the gruffy voice.

"Shouldn't you park your car at your place instead of mine? You parked one on the side of the road so you might as well park in front of your truck!"

"What do you think it's easy huh!? I got family! I got a large family living in there!"

Her left eye glimpsed open and his eyebrows frowned.

"Well, take your 'family' and tell them to move somewhere else from here so you can throw plenty of parties with your stupid music!"

Next came open her right eye and clenched fist.

"What you think it's easy trying to work and maintain a household?! I've been busting my ass to keep ourselves together! Why don't you try it?!"

Followed by grinding from her braced teeth.

"Oh yea!? Let me tell you something family man! Have you ever-"

The balcony door flew open which caught the attention of the argumentative neighbors.

"Would you two just SHUT UP?!" She yelled. "It's TWO in the FREAKING MORNING! GO TO SLEEP!"

She then slammed the behoney door shut. Atsushi sat with a displeased look on his face.

"Is it the neighbors again?"

Lucy glanced at the closed balcony door.

"Yea... Those stupid neighbors." She grumbled as she stomped her way back to Atsushi's bed clinging to his chest.

Shortly after, the yelling stopped and the two ability users' slumber in their arms with smiles on their faces.

Notes:

Hey it's been awhile.

I'm not dead for those who are wondering, I was caught in my personal life with having to deal with work and school, so I had a hard time to find my balance between my school & writing.

I'll do what I can during my free time but no guarantees.

The last paragraph was inspired by my neighbors as I heard my them arguing a few nights ago because their car was parked in their driveway without permission. So I thought it would funny if Lucy were to tell the neighbors to quiet down (but in a
non-polite way) because she is a light sleeper.

I hope you guys like the story.

Kudos & Comments are appreciated!
