Chapter Text

Sunoo, a simple person who was just about to step into a life full of sleepless nights surrounded by countless towering paperwork and reports in hand. A life filled with numerous boring lectures and never-ending drinking as the childish laughter of numerous teens is drowned by the blaring music of the party.

A life that was quickly stolen away as he was transmigrated into a different world, specifically into one of those cheesy romance novels. Sadly, he isn’t the main character in this situation but a dirty and nasty villain.

Such a cruel twist on his life happened. One day you were happily joking, laughing, and walking down the street with your friends then a loud beep from an approaching car and the blaring headlights of the car blinded you. Only for you to open your eyes, looking up at the nicely painted baby blue ceiling. Walking up to the mirror, a face that resembles yours meets you, eye-to-eye.

The jet-black hair that he once proudly boasted has suddenly been replaced with cotton-candy-like hair. A color that Sunoo had never favored.  The height he once bore had suddenly lessened as he had struggled to hardly reach the top of the closet, it’s not like he could do it since but it was much farther and harder now. His cheeks were much plumper now as a small tint of pink lingers all the time.

Only to realize that this person wasn’t you. Confused, scared, and conflicted is all Sunoo could feel. Until a stroke of realization hits him as the familiar names “Park Jongseong and Park Sunghoon” are heard from a couple of women screaming outside his room. Realizing that he had entered the cheesy novels his best friend was reading.

He could hardly care when one of his friends shared about the new novel she was addicted to. He never expected to be thrown into the story. It ain't every day for someone to suddenly be part of some sort of cheesy romance novel. Now he lives as the trashy villain she talked about and wholeheartedly despised. He knows nothing about the plot - he was going in blind, unprepared, and alone.

The original villain is the younger stepbrother of the two main characters in the novel who are Park Sunghoon and Park Jongseong. He was the son of the two’s stepmother, he does not share any biological DNA with any of the two as he was a child his mother bore before meeting the father of the two main characters. His father had died leaving him fatherless for a few years while his mother was a poor widow not until they met his stepdad.

His mother and the man have truly fallen in love with one another. Yet, she didn’t accept carrying the man’s last name, a weird sense of respect, and preservation of the memory of her first husband thus she remained bearing the name of a Kim instead of becoming a Park. The man accepted this condition only in the terms of them living together with his 2 sons, she accepted despite her initial plan of living somewhere else with her son, the original villain, which ironically has the same name as him, Kim Sunoo.

They lived in a secluded mansion, a bit far from the city but not too close to the forest. Countless beautiful gardens surround the mansion. Gardens are filled with such vibrant, eye-catching flowers. A breathtaking sight for anyone to see. Maybe this is why Kim Sunoo, the soon-to-be poor victim of these sick shenanigans finds comfort in this place, specifically the garden farther from the mansion just nearing the edge of the forest. He named this garden his haven, a place he deemed safe from the sick twisted game of life he was thrown into.

The original villain’s mother was a pure gentle woman who loved Sunoo (ironically the villain has the same name as him) with all her heart. She willingly listened to her son who had twisted and continuously filled her mind with lies that his two stepbrothers were cruel and rude to him. The positive image she had built of the twins soon crumbled as she now only bore resentment, anger, and disappointment towards the twins.

The original villain’s lies had also twisted his stepfather’s ideas towards his two stepbrothers. The once loving and adoring father of the two had become cold and unforgiving towards the twins. Confusion was the initial reaction of the two but it was soon cleared up as soon they caught the young stepbrother blatantly throwing lies to their father.

The original story of the villain goes as he was a nasty spoiled brat who had it all. A whiny brat that his stepfather and mother are willing to obey and listen to. The brat was known to always blame everything on his two older stepbrothers and always tried to have the two punished for everything even the simplest of problems.

The story would end with the two main characters, Park Sunghoon and Park Jongseong, happily in love with their respective partners, Sim Jaeyun and Yang Jungwon. While he is destined to die at their hands, the idea of death scares Kim Sunoo but he was reassured by the system that it would be alright. His death would finally relieve him of his task in the story thus transporting him back to his world.

His job is to continue the story with the original flow or else he would not be able to return to his world. This burdens Sunoo as he neither has any traits of the original villain. He was the complete opposite, he was a boy of purity, a person who puts everyone’s state of mind and well-being first above everything else.

He was a gentle, kind, and caring person who had the purest of hearts. He was always compared to an angel. He may sometimes fool around but he would never push it too far and when he did an apology would quickly follow.

The original villain, however, was a boy that resembled a devil. A boy that had every qualification to be called a villain - a bad attitude, a bad personality, and a twisted mind. A person capable of twisting and playing everyone into his palm. He was not a justifiable villain, he was simply trash personified. A waste of space of a person was the original villain.

Kim Sunoo, who was forcibly given the original villain’s place specifically at the age of 12 years old with his 2 older step brothers Park Sunghoon and Park Jongseong who were 15 years old.

Kim Sunoo was really troubled with this age difference as he was actually 18 years old. Now he has to go and act like a 12-year-old while terrorizing 15 years old. Such an ugly thought could make anyone disappointed in him. Flinching at the thought of his mother’s scolding once she hears about this.

Out of his will, Kim Sunoo now has taken his place and he has to take on this cruel and nasty role. The pure angel is now supposed to turn into a devil. He was heavily troubled with this at first, not until a small person appeared on his shoulder.

The person introduced himself to be Choi Yeonjun, he stated that he was a guide for Kim Sunoo, properly guiding Kim Sunoo to follow the original flow of the story. He reassures Kim Sunoo that only he can see him, but Kim Sunoo still opted to not talk to the small man in public to not create any misunderstanding that he had gone mad, when in fact he was quite close to.

Days have passed, Kim Sunoo locked himself in his room as countless questions and answers were thrown between the two until Sunoo had finally come to terms with his current situation.

Kim Sunoo was caught up to speed with what the original bratty villain had already done and a vague description of what he still needs to do in the future. At first, he was against being rude and bratty like the original villain but he came to terms with it as he had no choice. He wanted to go home and this is the only choice he has.

“Is this really alright?” Kim Sunoo asks as he waits beside an open window, waiting for the two brothers to appear to properly initiate the plan that Yeonjun had told him.

“Yes, the original story involves you stupidly playing near an open window thus falling out of the window and blaming it on the two brothers.”

“The original villain is such a brat”

“I know”

“Can I not  jump out of the window?”

“No”

“But-”

“No buts”

“Is there really nothing else I can do? I can blame them for something else other than having the chance of me being unable to walk for the rest of my life”

“Nothing”

“Really? Nothing else?”

“Yup, nothing else”

“This is annoying

“Yeah well it is what it is”

“You are annoying”

“I get that a lot”

Sunoo could only roll his eyes at the statement of the other as he climbed on the window sill with his legs out of the window, swaying with the wind. The wind was flowing through the open window, caressing Sunoo’s porcelain skin. The sky’s honeydew color matched the autumn leaves falling. It was soothing as it almost lulled Sunoo to sleep.

“Jay, is it really alright for us to be here?”

“Yeah, why shouldn’t it be”

“Well, we might come across that annoying brat”

He knew that voice, it was his other stepbrother Sunghoon who had called him a brat. He would lie if he said that it didn’t hurt when he heard those words but it was true, he was a brat, specifically the original villain which he is currently portraying.

“Sunghoon be quiet. We know he is a rude, annoying brat but you shouldn’t loudly proclaim the obvious -”

Jay was cut off as he noticed Sunoo looking at them with a murderous glare. The twins stopped in their tracks as they stood wide-eyed directly looking at their younger stepbrother who was sitting dangerously on the sill of the open window of the 3rd-floor building.

“S-sunoo, can you come down there?”

“Brat - I mean Sunoo, let’s not do anything rash shall we?”

The twins inched closer and closer to Sunoo who was still sending them a murderous glare. Just as the two were in arms reach of the younger, Sunoo quickly jumped off, falling hard onto the muddy ground. A loud thud resonated from the fall, alarming the numerous maids and butlers in the area.

“What was that??”

“Did someone throw something??”

“Wait, someone just fell over there!?”

“Sir Sunoo?!”

Numerous servants rushed to Sunoo’s side, checking on the physical state of Sunoo. A servant had accidentally patted Sunoo’s broken leg causing the young man to let out a small “ouch” alarming the servants.

Some servants looked up to the window, pointing at the two brothers who were now looking down on them wide-eyed. A gasp was left out from the mouths of the servants as they had jumped to the conclusion that the two children pushed Sunoo out of the window.

“Report this to Mrs. Kim and Mr. Park immediately!!” An order was issued from the head butler who had quickly appeared amidst the commotion. He looked up at the open window to see the two brothers frozen, wide-eyed looking at them. The head butler gave them a deadly glare bringing them to their senses as they scurried away.

Sunoo who was still lying on the ground was watching the window, seeing the two leave. “I have to do this. I’m sorry” Sunoo thought as he lay still on the ground, his whole body aching from the fall.

Taking in mind that he has broken his leg and was widely covered in mud, he could hardly care at the moment as he witnessed the fear etched faces of his two stepbrothers just before running away, hitting him with a pang of guilt as he fully knows the suffering he is bringing the two.

“I hope this is the last time I have to jump out of a window” A sigh escapes his lips causing the crowding servants to quickly approach him due to the exaggerated idea of the young master having trouble breathing.

Sunoo wanted to tell them to stop frantically panicking about him but he has to put on this hurt child act. Luckily, the head butler realized that he was uncomfortable, and spoke up on his behalf.

“Let’s not crowd the young master. You men there, carefully carry the young master up to his room and prepare a warm bath for him since he is quite covered in mud.” The servants in the area answered with a nod as they started to move, some carefully carrying Sunoo while others went ahead to properly arrange the orders of the head butler.

“I’m being treated like I’m dying. This is so exaggerated and uncomfortable” Sunoo wanted all of this to end but sadly it was only the beginning of it all. He could only hope that his two stepbrothers are currently safe.

Sunghoon and Jay dashed out of the mansion and into the nearby forest. They were running without caring about wherever they were going. The only thing running in their mind is fear of the punishment they might receive and the hatred towards their young stepbrother that was incredibly growing deep inside of them.

Stopping in front of an old run-down cottage deep in the forest, the two looked at each other as they tried to catch their breaths, sweat dripping down to the forest floor. Their hair was now ruined as they were covered with mud, cuts, and scars forming in their arms and legs due to running through numerous bushes and branches.

“Where are we?”

“Clearly deep in the forest”

“Wow, thanks for the helpful insight Jay”

“Tsk, let’s get in the house over here”

“What? Are you mad??”

“No, I’m perfectly sane”

“That’s a random run-down house deep in the forest isn’t that scary enough?!” Sunghoon shouts frustration laced on his tone as he points at the run-down cottage. Jay could only roll his eyes at his twin as he walked towards the cottage.

Sunghoon stood wide-eyed and mouth agape as he watched his twin walk closer to the cottage. Letting out a frustrated sigh, Sunghoon followed soon after as soon as Jay opened the cottage door.

“Why did we enter here anyway”

“To sleep for the night genius”

“Let’s just go home”

“And what? Receive punishment just because that stupid brat jumped on his own accord?! No thanks, go back if you have a death wish but I’m staying here”

Sunghoon was beyond frustrated as he scratched his head. He watches Jay plop down on the sofa, ready to sleep as he closes his eyes. Sunghoon was bewildered by how his brother was acting. He was confused as to how his brother was so used to living a life such this barbaric, so he thought.

Sunghoon wanted to go home but the darkening outside stopped him. He was always afraid of the dark, so whenever he slept he would always have a small night light or candle to lightly brighten the room as he slept.

Sunghoon frantically scans the room, hopelessly searching for any light source to help him sleep through the night. He wandered the cottage, opening numerous cabinets and cupboards but to no avail he found none. Every step he takes, a soft creak of old wood resonates within the room. A soft chilling breeze constantly grazes his skin, raising only his fear and anxiety in staying in the cottage.

As he was searching a room, he did not notice the diary that was etched behind the closet just beside the door. After a few minutes of searching, he decided to come back to the living room where his brother was still peacefully lying on the sofa.

He was walking down the corridor with a defeated expression which was soon changed to anxiety as soon as he noticed the creeping darkness signaling that the sun had begun to set.

He sat down in the corner of the living room, burying his face on his knees as he tried to shield himself from the darkness that swallowed them. Sunghoon was shaking with fear as the darkness of the night surrounded them. He wanted to go home but he didn't want to leave his twin all alone.

“I’m sorry that I forgot”

Sunghoon looked up to see his twin brother holding a small lit candle. “I’m sorry, I was just too stressed because of what that brat did”. Jay placed the candle into a small glass vase as he cuddled up next to his shaking brother. “I’m sorry” Jay whispers as he hugs his brother tightly.

Soon after the two have fallen asleep, their anger towards their young stepbrother has grown substantially.

While the twins had slept, Sunoo was having trouble falling asleep with his two stepbrothers occupying his mind. Sunoo lays on his bed with fresh warm clothes as he mindlessly looks up to the ceiling. His right foot was broken but instead of asking for help, he tried to shrug it off by telling the maids and butlers that he was fine despite not.

He only asked for a couple of bandages and an ice pack. Once again reassuring everyone that he was fine and it shouldn’t be blown out of proportion. Everyone was skeptical at first but was reassured as the young child gave everyone a big smile, showing his pearly whites to everyone, captivating everyone.

“I hope they are alright”

“They will be, I bet they found the cottage I told you about and are sleeping soundly right now”

“That puts me to ease”

“It’s odd that you aren’t that troubled with what you did”

“Hmm? I am troubled about it, the guilt of treating others so harshly and cruelly will always put a bitter taste in my mouth but I have to do this.”

Yeonjun could only stare with pity as he witnessed Sunoo carry such a heavyweight on his shoulder. “I guess it’s time to sleep now, you have a big day ahead of you” Sunoo only gave a small nod in response as Yeonjun disappeared into thin air.

Like a ghost, gone with the wind. Leaving Sunoo alone, pondering his thoughts on the man he became.

“I’m sorry…”

“I have to do this… I’m so sorry” a single tear escaped as Sunoo closed his eyes forcing himself to sleep. The gentle light of the moon shone through his window. A soft sign of comfort from above could not even ease his suffering.

Sunoo was soundly sleeping with memories of him with his friends repeated in his mind. He was having fun with them. He was enjoying his teenage years, not until the accident. It was meant to be a fun day, a day of celebration filled with obnoxious laughter, smiles, and shouts across the room.

A night to spend to forget about every single problem they have. Every pain and suffering the cruel world had brought upon these young teens, was suddenly forgotten as numerous drinks in hand came crashing up high under the moonlight. The loud clashing of bottles and glass echoed under the serene night. A way to release every baggage they carry. A day to be free with themselves had suddenly turned sour as simple as a flick of a finger.

The day of celebration just before he heads off to college. Jokes were funny and harmless, everyone knows that… right? Wanting to end it with a small joke, ending it with a loud bang… literally. Deep inside he knows that he shouldn't have done that, it was meant to be a joke - a harmless joke that cost their lives.

“No…”

“Please…”

“I’m sorry…”

Sunoo whimpers in his sleep unaware of his mother standing beside his bed, tears threatening to spill as she witnesses her son writhing in fear. She assumed that the nightmare he was having was related to yesterday’s events. An assumption that had fueled her rage towards the twins.

“I’m sorry… Please”

“I didn’t want this…”

“Please…”

Sunoo whimpers, causing his mother to panic. Gently caressing Sunoo’s cheeks, she whispers repeating words of assurance to the younger’s ear. She continued doing so until Sunoo had visibly relaxed.

It was already 8 o'clock in the morning and she was supposed to wake Sunoo for breakfast but seeing him in this state made her heart wretch. Deciding to let him sleep a little bit more, she left the room with a great desire to deliver judgment onto her son’s bullies, the twins.

The twins had just woken up, huddled together. Their muscles aching from the uncomfortable hard wooden floor they had slept on, and they also felt cold due to the cold harsh night wind that freely sneaked through the cracks of the run-down cottage.

Sunghoon was not used to sleeping like this while Jay on the other hand was quite used to sleeping on the hard floor, from the numerous times he had run away from home.

The days he had escaped to the comfort of the night sky. The countless fireflies that circled the forest brought him a sense of comfort. Despite the burning pain from the numerous cuts that constantly stung him, Jay found joy in walking through the dense forest at night. The comfort he had longed for, he had found deep in the forest. Under the embrace of the moon, Jay found his haven.

“Jay, let’s go back home now?”

Jay wanted to say no but seeing his twin brother looking at him with a pained expression had fully made him agree. He wanted to stay away for a little longer, fully knowing that they would receive their punishment as soon as they entered the darn household.

“Alright. Let’s go home now”

Jay gave a forced smile towards the other, who gladly for Jay did not notice. They started to walk to the house with Jay taking a mental note of the path towards the run-down cottage.

It was already 10 o’clock in the morning, Sunoo on the other hand had just woken up. His bright pink hair was tousled in places as he groggily limped to the bathroom wanting to freshen up.

As he was washing his teeth, Yeonjun appeared with a huge smile. Sunoo raised an eyebrow at the other, annoyed with the other’s bright atmosphere and too busy brushing his teeth to properly form a response.

“We have a big day ahead!”

Yeonjun is excited to go on this day as he happily hums a tune while sitting on the shoulder of Sunoo. Just as Sunoo finished brushing his teeth, a loud crash echoed from downstairs. Sunoo looked over to Yeonjun who sported a knowing expression.

Sunoo quickly limped downstairs to be greeted with the sight of numerous shards of porcelain scattered and the twins kneeling on the floor,  their knees scratched and bruised. They had their arms raised high in the air, signs of struggle were seen as bundles of sweat started dripping down their foreheads and the visible shaking of their arms. Sunoo could only let out a gasp, witnessing the brutal sight.

Sunoo was about to stop the brutal punishment he was witnessing. He was held back as Yeonjun spoke.

“This is a major event in the story so let this happen”

“But-”

“Sunoo.”

The stone-cold tone of Yeonjun had forcibly brought Sunoo to the reality he was in. He has to let this happen or he won’t be able to return. Sunoo stopped any form of resistance against Yeonjun as he could only watch as the twins were struggling to last a minute more from their punishment. He stood at the side, silently listening to his mother’s constant line of profanities toward his stepbrothers.

“You two! How dare you push my child off a window!” Their stepmother's tall stature hovered over the two bruised and helpless boys, anger evident in her eyes. She was holding a porcelain vase ready to throw it to the hopeless, silent twins until Sunoo had decided that it was enough.

Sunoo looked over to Yeonjun, waiting for a sign of approval which the latter gave a nod. Sunoo, seeing the nod, quickly made his presence known as he tried not to limp walking up to his mother.

“Mom, Mr. Park told me you haven’t eaten breakfast yet. Let’s eat together mom”

It was a blatant lie, Sunoo had never met Mr. Park in the hallway. He stood straight in front of his mother, trying so hard to stand straight, afraid for his mother to see him limp as it may cause his mother to lash out at the twins kneeling on the ground.

“I’ll be there, darling. Let me just finish up things here”

“Let’s go now, mother. I’m quite hungry”

Sunoo scowled at the two, a polar opposite of the smile he showed to his mother. The two were burning in rage as they saw how arrogant their little stepbrother was looking down on them.

The two continuously plotted numerous ways of getting back at the younger, sending him a glare as the younger shrugged them off, taking his mother’s hand.

“I’m glad that I stopped my mother before she could hurt them even further.”

The sudden thought was heard by the two, shock mixed in with the anger that was building deep inside them. Sunoo who had turned his back against the two was now trying so hard not to limp with his mother’s hand encased with his. Sunoo gave the porcelain vase to a nearby maid to properly put it back in its place, the maid gave a bow as she swiftly followed the orders of the younger.

“They better head to the clinic”

“Will they go if I tell them to go or is it gonna be suspicious?

“If they aren’t going I should have someone treat their wounds before it gets infected. Their knees are badly injured. I hope Mr. Huening helps me with treating them”

The twins looked at one another as they slowly lowered their arms. Both harboring the same thought as they looked over to the retreating figure of their young stepbrother, “What the fuck is your game you annoying brat?”
