Ali Potter and the Oh F*ck Again, really?

Summary:

Ali Potter comes back to the past after a decade of war, being one of the last surviving people on the planet.
Death decides to meddle, and give her a power unseen since Merlin.
Join Ali, Artemis, Hedwig, Ron, and Hermione, and some gleefully grinning Goblins, as they proceed to give Albus Dumbledore, (who is not really bad but an idiot,) Severus Snape, (who is small minded at best, but could get better,) Tom Riddle, (who is an egotistical idiot for all that he is a genius,) and the Wizarding World in general coronaries.
And they have fun whilst doing it.
They may also become Dark Lords and Ladies, because, why not?

Notes:

I know I shouldn't really be posting something new, yet again, when I have so many unfinished stories, but I am still working on everything, I just wanted to post this.
I have decided not to bash Dumbledore nearly as much as I do normally, but we will see how long that lasts lol.

I hope the formatting is alright, I have tried to fix some of it, but i don't know if it worked.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: Why?

Chapter Text

Good morning, Mistress. I understand you are confused, so please press the tutorial button that is flashing in front of you. It will explain what has happened, and what you can do about it. Remember mistress, you are my favourite.

Ali Potter blinked in surprise at the message floating in front of her face. After reading it, she brushed her hand in front of it and watched as it disappeared. She frowned, and pressed the flashing button labelled

Tutorial

A grey box, bordered in emerald green, popped up in front of her face. She focused on that rather than the fact she was certain she had just died, because the killing curse shot at you from five different people along with three cutting curses that she was pretty sure had cut her head off really should have killed her. She also decided to ignore the fact she was pretty sure she was back in a cupboard that she hadn’t seen in two decades.

Welcome to being a Gamer. The game ability is granted to someone who has earnt the favour of at least two celestial entities.

Congratulations!

The gamer ability grants you the ability to treat the world around you as a game. There will be dungeons for you to explore, gold for you to gain, item for you to collect, stats for you to improve.

Go forth, young Gamer. Collect the item you need to craft armour, weapons, potions, and spells. Re-live your life, better this time, so you can fulfill your destiny.

Ali swiped her hand through the less than helpful box, unsurprised when another box opened. This one was just a list of things.

Ali pressed autosave to see what that was.

“If autosave is turned on: if you die you will return to where you slept last. If it is turned off: you will have to start over if you die.”

Ali hastily turned autosave ON. She turned down the BGM, which she figured out was background music, to 90, and the effect to 95. She looked at the minimap and read what it said.

“The minimap will appear in the top right-hand corner of your vision. It will show you objective markers, where people are, where dungeons are, and it will act as a mini Marauders Map for you.”

She turned that on as well and went back to the main menu. Quests, party, reputation, mail, and items were greyed out, so she couldn’t touch them. She pressed on stats instead.

Ali was a little upset with how low her stats were. She hoped there was a way to increase them quickly, because if she had come back in time, she was going to need higher stats than that. She remembered listening to Colin Creevy talking about games he had played. She knew strength was how strong you were and how hard you could hit; dexterity was how quick you were, how good you’re dodging and reflexes and how quickly you could move; constitution was how healthy you were and how many hits you could take; intelligence was self-explanatory, as was wisdom and charisma. She was curious about perception, though. She pressed it, wondering if it would give her an information.

“Perception controls the chance to detect vital clues, traps or hiding enemies, and might influence combat sequence or the accuracy of ranged attacks. Note that this skill is understood only to apply to what you can perceive with your established senses (sight, sound, smell) can be levelled up by being cautious and looking deeper, not being reckless, setting up wards, and reading certain books.”

Ali still wasn’t thrilled with her stats and decided to go straight to a library and read a lot of books to get her intelligence up. She really had just coasted through her education the first time around, relying on Hermione to give her the answers because no one cared if she did well at school, and Hermione would have gotten jealous to not be the best at schoolwork. She pursed her lips and went back to the menu and pressed the Skills button.

Ali hadn’t realised that parseltongue had a magic connected to it, but she was quite curious to figure it out. She was also curious about being a Metamorphagus; she remembered changing her hair after that hideous haircut and her hair never changing after that, but she hadn’t realised she was like Tonks. That was something she was going to take advantage of as soon as she could.

She was going to ignore the debuffs for now, there was very little she could do about any of them right now.

She was going to ignore the necromancy now, and try to figure out the shadow walking, because that could be useful.

Right now, she figured she needed to focus on what was happening.

Like the fact she was in the cupboard under the stairs.

@@@@@@@@@@

Ali had cooked breakfast for the Dursleys, managing to swipe enough toast and bacon to make a dry sandwich, mowed the lawn, weeded the flower beds, and washed the car while listening to Dudley’s excitement about his birthday tomorrow. She had also found many sparkly things, which she had picked up and placed into a bag that appeared out of thin air. She hadn’t had time to look at what she had collected, or at any of the boxes that had appeared.

Ali had been shoved back into her cupboard; she knew she should do something about the Dursleys, but honestly after having spent the last four years being chased by Witch-Hunters, she was kinda enjoying the slower pace of being the Dursleys House Elf. She knew that would wear off pretty quickly, because her grip on patience for stupidity had only decreased after a decade of war. She looked in the bag, which she had figured out no one else could see, and tipped the contents onto her cot.

Three groups of blackberries, which were apparently a crafting item she couldn’t use yet; two packets of gummy bears which would restore her health ten points each; a mandrake leaf to unlock her animagus form; a packet of owl treats; a dagger that had an attack of five; three ten pound notes; three skill books to increase her Parselmagic, Necromancy, and Intelligence; and three things she could sell for five gold each, if she could access the “Travellers Shop”, whatever that was.

She placed everything back in the bag and studied it. She could see the runes that would make the bag expandable, invisible, and light. It would never run out of room, could never be taken from her, and would only way as much as a small mouse, or so the description said. Ali opened the menu and realised that her stats and mail labels were both flashing. She pressed stats first.

Her gardening and cleaning levels had both gone up by one, and so had her XP, it was now 250, so almost halfway to going up a level. She also had four gold. Ali accepted it and hit the mail button next.

Hello Mistress. I know you must be confused. You died, my Mistress. If the Witch-Hunters hadn’t gotten you, the radiation of the planet would have within two months. Everyone around you was already dead, Mistress. It is your destiny to create a new world for Magical’s, Mistress. I have granted you the ability to re-live your life to fulfill your destiny. I have also granted you the Gamer Ability. It will help you to see through the lies and bullocks you were fed in your last life. You need to look deeper to see everything that happened, Mistress. Trust your instincts and your abilities this time. You are my favourite, but I do not wish to see you in My Realm for a very long time, Mistress. Enjoy your second chance, and your new life. And your gifts as well.

Good Luck, My Mistress.

There was a flashing button underneath the message, which said “Accept Gift”. Ali pressed it cautiously, wondering what new thing she was about to experience this time. There was a puff of pink smoke in front of her, and then…

A baby Cerberus appeared in front of her.

Unlike Fluffy, this one was tiny, the three heads looked too big for the tiny body, covered in black fur, with brown spots and splodges throughout its’ body. It had bright blue eyes, which were staring at Ali happily even as its tongues lolled out of its’ mouths. It had a bright yellow vest on, with the words “Service Dog” written on it.

Another letter popped up in Ali’s mail box. She pressed on it, and read,

Congratulations, you have unlocked a special gift from the Celestial Entity, Death. The Being has granted you a Hell Hound; it is a female, and it will appear to be a regular dog to anyone who is not a Party Member. The vest will allow her to follow you everywhere, she will find her own food, and even find food for you. Once you have chosen a name for your Hell Hound, she will become your very first permanent Party Member. Congratulations and good luck in your Game of Life.

“Well, you are female. So, how about Artemis, the Greek Goddess of the Hunt, I believe. Do you like that?”

The newly named Artemis gave a soft chuff and nuzzled into Ali. Then, she disappeared into the shadows of the cupboard, and Ali heard a soft voice say,

“Just going hunting.”

Ali hummed and felt a sense of peace she hadn’t for quite a long time.

“Thank you, Death, for giving me this second chance, and for giving me Artemis.”

Watching his little Mistress from beyond the veil, Death smiled as they heard her thanks. It was very rare the being got thanked for anything, and it was especially poignant coming from their little Mistress. The Entity hummed to themselves as they went about their job.

Ali got out of the mailbox and saw that the items and party headings were both able to be pushed now. She pressed the party heading, and saw,

Debuffs: None

                Temporary Members

There was nothing under temporary members; Ali figured she must have to invite people or something. She was glad that Artemis had such good stats, they would probably be getting into a lot of trouble knowing her damn Potter Luck. The healing whine would probably come in handy as well.

Petunia knocked on her cupboard door and called for Ali to vacuum the carpets, wash the lunch dishes, wrap Dudley’s presents for his birthday tomorrow, clean the kitchen, and cook dinner. Ali exited from all the boxes and got up for an afternoon of cleaning.

Artemis got back to Ali after she had cooked dinner for the Dursleys; Artemis bought food for Ali, and some healing potions which Ali recognised as potions from Diagon Alley. The nutrient potions would help to fix her malnutrition and help her body to absorb the correct elements and nutrients out of food. The healing potions and scar correctors would just be good to help her overall health. Ali took one of each potion, ate half the food, made sure Artemis had eaten enough, then placed everything else in her bag. She also studied what her and Artemis had found that afternoon.

Another five ten pound notes; a set of claws that went on Artemis and had a +5 ATK; four more skill books, one for Artemis that would grant her a Fire Breath Attack, and three for Ali, one for CHA, two for INT; a leather undershirt that had a buff for health, granting a +3 Health each level up, and +7 DEF; a crossbow that had an ATK of 10; four groups of blueberries, that were a crafting item she couldn’t use yet; one Unicorn hair, another crafting item; some more food; and 25 gold.

Ali was quite happy with her haul and looked at the items tag that she hadn’t gotten to that afternoon.

Ali read over everything, and then went into her profile where she saw a button marked Equip. She pressed it and chose to equip the leather undershirt and the dagger. She would have preferred the crossbow, but she had used swords and daggers before, and she didn’t have any crossbow bolts. She considered using the Mandrake Leaf but decided she would wait until she received her Hogwarts letter. She looked at the skill books, then looked at the Fire Breath one for Artemis.

Fire Breath is an attack that works on all opponents; it hits multiple opponents, but randomly. This skill can be levelled up depending on use. All three heads use it simultaneously.

Ali looked at Artemis, and spoke, her voice amused, her green eyes tired but fond as she stared at the Hell Hound seated beside her, one head on her lap, drooling slightly on her grey clothes.

“Well girl, you want to learn to breathe fire?”

Artemis chuffed softly, and Ali chose the option that would teach Artemis how to breath fire. She was amused by how excited Artemis appeared. After that, Ali decided to go to sleep for a while; she would look at the other skill books tomorrow.

And try to figure out what exactly was the Traveller Shop.

@@@@@@@@@@@

The following day saw Ali trailing after the Dursleys and Piers Polkiss, (and how she had forgotten just how stupid Dudley and Piers could be together was beyond her), as they went to the zoo. Ali remembered how this day went the first time around, and honestly, she would have preferred to stay in her cupboard. Artemis spent the entire time pressed up against Ali, helping her to keep calm and not just start firing hexes at all of the people around her. She had never been fond of a lot of people around her, but after a decade of war she hated being surrounded. She had realised pretty quickly that the Dursleys couldn’t see Artemis and were highly confused by people commentating on how well behaved she was. Her and Artemis kept collecting anything that shined that silver colour that only they could see, and Ali was curious to see what they both kept picking up.

They reached the reptile house, and this time Ali didn’t talk to the constrictor.

Or vanish the glass.

So, it was an incredibly boring trip to the zoo.

At least it was until Ali saw a shiny silver light surrounding a doorway.

She knew the Dursleys wouldn’t care if she disappeared, provided they didn’t have to collect her from somewhere.

So, with a quick look at Artemis, who looked excited as she also stared at the shining light, Ali walked over to the lit doorway.

She hesitated for a moment, and after another shared look with Artemis, she walked through the shining doorway.

There was cold darkness for a few moments, before a glowing box appeared in front of her.

Ali swiped it.

Welcome to your first dungeon. There are enemies in this dungeon for you and your party to fight player. If you defeat the Boss of the Dungeon, you will receive a special item. If you level up to level 5, you will receive a special item. If you defeat 5 slimes, you will receive a special item. If you defeat 3 Hobgoblins, you will receive a special item. If you defeat every creature in the dungeon, you will receive a special item. If your health drops to 0, the dungeon will disappear, and you will not receive any special items. Good luck on your first dungeon.

Ali looked at Artemis; the Hell Hound looked just as excited and interested as Ali felt. Ali had not so much enjoyed the reprieve from being on the run, but after two decades of getting into life threatening danger and other trouble, Ali missed the adrenaline. She was perfectly willing to admit to needing something to do, some way to feel useful, and she had always been very, very good at dangerous situations.

Ali looked around as the smoke that had filled the doorway cleared. She appeared to be in a cavern; the first room was about twenty feet wide and forty feet long; shadows filled the visible space, rocky walls were wet with mildew and glowing moss, which was the only light source. Ali looked at herself; along with her normally plaited long black hair, her mocha-coloured skin was glistening slightly, she was dressed simply in her leather undershirt, a pair of generic brown leather boots, a pair of black cotton trousers, and her dagger was on her belt. Her bag was on one shoulder, and Artemis was beside her, the size that Fluffy had once been.

Ali stepped forwards, drawing her dagger as she did. She had gotten very good at using daggers and swords during the wars; magic had not always been usable while running from the Witch-Hunters. Artemis moved beside her, silently for such a large animal. Ali saw movement from the corner of her eye, and swung around, stabbing out with her dagger. A slime exploded in a shower of sparks. A box popped up, and Ali decided to ignore all the boxes whilst in a dungeon. Fortunately, the boxes only popped up along the side, and were easy enough to ignore if needed. She stepped forwards a couple more steps and saw the shower of sparks that meant Artemis had killed something.

Ali had rarely played games in her past, mostly helping Dean and Hermione to integrate muggle tech with magic, but she had listened to enough muggleborns talk about games to have a decent idea how the basic mechanics worked. They had always talked about intro and tute levels being where you should try to kill everything, so you levelled up quicker. Plus, she wanted those special items that the message had promised.

Ali moved into a second room, after her and Artemis had killed two more slimes and gathered a few items. This room was larger than the first room, and had tunnels on either side, so Ali would have to choose whether to go left or right after she had cleared, she believed that was the term, this room. After killing a further three slimes, which really were weird looking blobby creatures, a different creature popped up.

It was green skinned, with a red cap, lumps all over its body, dressed in a leather shirt and old style pointed boot, and had a bow and arrows. Ali dodged the first arrow it fired, but the second hit her arm, and she watched her health drop 25 points. She didn’t like that but realising how much a single arrow could cost her health just made her more determined to not get hit again.

A jet of fire flared past her, and she realised that Artemis used her fire breath attack. She watched as the creature, that she thought might have been a Hobgoblin, dissolve into ash, and thanked Artemis for saving her. Artemis chuffed, and they moved forwards. Another Hobgoblin attacked them, and Ali stabbed it with her dagger, and watched it dissolve. Ali chose to go down the right tunnel; a Hobgoblin jumped on her from the ceiling, and stabbed her with a dagger, and her health dropped another 25 points before Artemis grabbed the monster and bite it. It exploded in a shower of sparks, and Artemis whined twice over Ali, and Ali was covered in a golden glow, and her health went back to full.

She patted Artemis on all three heads and thanked the Hell Hound for both saving her and healing her, and they moved forwards again. They killed anything they came across, and Artemis took no damage but made sure to keep Ali up to full health. They collected quite a few items, and they finally made it to a room in the centre.

It was large, open, and empty.

There was a book on a pedestal in the centre of the room, and Ali remembered Dean and Colin Creevy complaining about Boss Rooms.

Ali exchanged another glance with Artemis and hoisted her dagger into her grip a little better and stepped forwards. Immediately, the door behind them swung closed, and Ali gulped as she made her way to the pedestal. Before she got there, a monster dropped down from the ceiling.

It was larger than the Hobgoblins by at least three times; it was dressed in the same style as the smaller monsters, but instead of a dagger or a short bow, this one was holding a large sword that was as long as Ali’s arm. It was also holding a book and roared at them.

The creature, which had a health bar and its name proclaiming it “The Hobgoblin King”, roared at them again, and sent a spike of ice straight at Ali. She dodged, and Artemis sent three gouts of fire at the monstrous king, and Ali ran towards it, and stabbed it with her dagger. The king slammed its fist into her stomach, and Ali went flying backwards. The punch had robbed Ali of 50 HP. Ali stood up on shaky legs and shook her head to clear it. Her stab had cost the king a quarter of its health, and Artemis’s fire had cost another quarter. Artemis bit the king, and its HP dropped a bit more, and Ali quickly swallowed a health potion, which gave her full health again.

Ali ran forwards, and stabbed the Hobgoblin king again, feeling satisfied when its’ HP dropped by another quarter. It looked like it had about 10% HP left when it swung its sword, clipping Ali and sending her flying again.

That swing cost her 90HP.

Ali was dizzy, as she watched Artemis bite the monster again, and it dissolved. Artemis came over to Ali and helped her stand. Ali went to the pedestal in the centre of the room and picked up the book. The cavernous room around them dissolved in a shower of sparks, and Ali and Artemis were left standing in the open space of the zoo once again. Ali tucked the book into her bag, and still feeling like she had just gotten out of a fight for her life, she managed to make it back to the Dursleys before they left the zoo.

Ali ignored all the boxes that had popped up, and fortunately the Dursleys ignored her presence completely. Ali hoped the migraine she had would wear off before too long. Ali went to her cupboard when they arrived back at Privet Drive, and Petunia threw a bottle of water and two pieces of bread in there before locking the door, and a warning about making any noise during Dudley’s party. Ali ignored her, curled up on the cot, and hoped she would go to sleep.

When Ali woke up, she could tell it was about ten hours later, and the middle of the night. Ali looked at her health bar and was glad it was full once again. Artemis, back to being a small puppy sized Hell Hound, chuffed at her. Ali patted her three heads and spent quite a while patting her and cooing at her about how good she was, and how brave, and how strong.

Ali offered Artemis some of the water or the bread Petunia had thrown in and Artemis told her to eat and drink it. Ali did, and then decided to focus on the boxes that had popped up during the day. There were boxes telling her the items the various monsters had dropped, how much gold she had collected, and how many levels her and Artemis had gone up.

As well as the boxes telling her that she had received all the special items in the dungeon, as they had completed all the objectives.

In the end, Ali had levelled up to level 6, and receive 5 skill points to add to any of her stats she wanted. In the end her stats looked like:

Ali was quite happy with everything they had picked up today. She knew her general feelings of complacency would probably disappear soon, but she would enjoy it for as long as she could. Soon enough, her PTSD would kick back in, and she would have to deal with the Dursleys, and the Wizarding World, and Voldemort, though she had a few ideas that would certainly get people talking. For now, she was going to enjoy the fact she could sleep in relative peace and quiet, and wait for her Hogwarts letter to arrive before she really began anything else.
