Work Text:
It is said, that which does not have a beginning, does not have an end.
However, Kiara was one made of constant beginnings and constant ends, all of her births and rebirths woven together since the dawn of time and till the end of days, made of the same ash and stardust that came into existence from the creation of the universe, and showed again when she fizzled out into ash.
She has defied death on all accounts, but time continues to constrict the periods in which she renewed herself. Every fire that burns must go out eventually, after all, yet Kiara's fiery soul was her own catalyst strong enough to renew her life.
Kronii couldn't care less about human life. Deep in meditation, in the empty void of space, she breathes evenly, her diaphragm contracting with every breath, and her heartbeat marking every second that passes. And, like it or not, she could not slow down the cogs.
The lives of the humans she hears of constantly pass by, fluttering through her like a flock of crows, each having their own individuality and life, but together it felt like a dark, indescribable shadow to those who weren't able to look closer, and was impossible to see where their essence began and ended against the canvas of the void.
And try as they might, these humans wouldn't stay long or cared enough to crack Kronii's phlegmatic composure.
But not only did Kiara manage to crack it, she burnt any remnant of it to the ground. Every cycle of birth and explosive rebirth, Kiara flew around her until Kronii had no choice but to admire her flaming plumage, and how her strong blazing wings beat in time with her heart, in perfect harmony with Time.
Kiara did not race against Time, but she danced along with her, doing dives in the air and loops as she soared past Kronii, her eyes following Kiara despite all of her intentions to not get attached before she flies away, and leaves Kronii wanting more of the Phoenix.
And whether the formless shadows flying to the Underworld were in black masses or single ones- alone and fluttering, struggling against the push of time- Kiara flew to the rhythm Kronii set and never once attempted to go back, but instead put on a show when her soul flew to the Underworld, only to rocket up, leaving behind a nebular cloud of smoke and stardust.
She never attempts to fly against the constant march of time, but instead Kiara flew with the steady beat of Kronii's heart and never attempted to rebel against what was in her nature to do: defy.
