It was a typical type of date. Both of them bringing a book to read, sitting on a bench together in a place separated from the crowd and read until night arrived and the light slowly dissapeared. But today it was different. Because Ranpo decided that today he was going to kiss Poe. They had been dating for a few months now and they held hands, cuddle and did lots of romantic stuff. Just not kissing. They were both pretty akward. But Ranpo had been thinking of it the whole week, so it was going to happen today.
It was winter, so night arrived faster than usual. The sun was setting, amber rays of light slipped through the brunches of the tall pine trees. Ranpo lifted his head from the book and stared at his boyfriend for a second. The sunlight resting on his hair and clothes created a beautiful scene in golden tones, it could be the mastepiece painting of a skilled artist. He wanted to see the golden reflected on the other's eyes too, but they were covered by his hair, as always. Ranpo sometimes wondered how the hell could he see with all his hair covering his eyes. So he grabbed Poe's face by the chin, forcing him to stop reading, and put his hair a side revealing Poe's flushed cheeks because of the other's sudden action.
'You know, your eyes are so pretty. You shouldn't hide them under your hair.'
Poe was terrible at taking compliments. He never knew how to respond. He was working on it though.
'I-uh- I guess I should'
'Definitively.- Ranpo looked around, and before Poe could get back to reading, he started talking again- You know, it's getting quite dark, maybe we should go do something else.'
'Like what?'
'Maybe go to the lookout spot near the lake?'
It was a pretty romantic spot, everybody knew lots of couples went there to confess to eachother or make out. It was the perfect place.
'I- Ok...'
Poe closed his book and put both his and his boyfreind's books in his backpack.
As they walked towards the lake Ranpo felt a feeling of tension grow in his stomach. He needed to bring up a coversation.
'So how you doing with school?'
They were in the same grade, just in different highschools, that's why they didn't see eachother as much.
'Um... Well, I reciently had a literature exam, I got the best mark of the class, as always... What about you?'
'Well, I had a chemistry exam, I think I'll probably pass.'
He knew he could get the highest mark in the class if he wanted, but he was kinda lazy and procrastinated a lot. Maybe it was because his mind was always thinking about doing a certain something with someone...
They arrived at the stairs that lead to the lookout spot, it was in a higher hill than the rest of the park because it was made to observe the birds around the small lake, but as trees and other vegetation started to grow around it you could barely see anything if you looked down except brunches, but it also became a more private, quiet place.
Ranpo's heart was beating fast inside his chest, he was going to do it. No matter how nervous he felt.
It was kinda dissapointing to see how the place was full of people. It made sense, the sunset had been at its peak only a few moments ago, it was a perfect spot to take pictures. This was bad. Real bad. Ranpo thought about staying there and wait until everybody was gone. But then-
'Ranpo, there's too many people, I'm feeling kinda anxious.'
His boyfriend's social anxiety.
'Ok then, let's leave.'
He grabbed Poe's hand and they walked downstairs. He needed to think of a plan B. Quick.
Darkness was starting to cover the park, creating a misterious yet conforting atmosphere. Ranpo leaded both of them into a separated path full of tall trees, no one was passing by there, there were no streetlights on either. It was private and quiet enough.
'Why did you take us here Ranpo?'
Ranpo took a long breath. Now or never.
He brought his boyfriend close to him and put his arms around his neck.
'Wha- Wait a second! I-uh- what are you going?'
'I'm trying to kiss you. If thats ok with you.'
'Uhhhh... I knew it... I'm just really nervous, this is my first kiss...'
'It's my first kiss too... I'm also nervous, but I'm sure this is what I want.'
'I want to too, but you don't understand, look -Poe took Ranpo's hand and placed it on his chest- It's beating'
'Poe, I would be a little bit more worried if it wasn't'
'But it's beating way too fast... Ugh, I'm too nervous. I'm going to ruin this for sure...'
'Don't say that. I promise you can never ruin anything going on between us just because you are nervous. And if you just don't feel ready that's ok too.'
'Nonono- I want to just... You kiss me.'
'Deal.'
Poe closed his eyes and Ranpo put Poe's arms around his own waist, bringing their bodies together. Ranpo finally met Poe's face. Shit this was really happening. And without thinking twice he pressed his lips against Poe's.
The kiss was short, but the feeling of the warmth on both their lips got them wishing it had lasted a bit longer. As they pulled apart they slowly searched for eachothers eyes. They were both blushing like crazy. And as the idiots in love they are they started to giggle. Finally they hugged eachother waiting for the warmth in both of their cheeks to fade away, and once it did, they broke the hug.
'Do you wanna go get a bubble waffle?'
Proposed Poe, knowing Ranpo would probably be a bit hungry by now.
'Yep! You know me so well. You pay though! Its only fair scince I kissed you.'
'Ugh... Fine. But be honest, you would make me pay even if you hadn't kissed me.'
Yeah, Poe definitively knew Ranpo very well.
