Goodbye Stranger

Summary:

Viktor loves Jayce, he really does (and to be honest he's not sure if Jayce does back), but after getting invited to his friend's Christmas party, he may actually have a chance to reveal a couple of secrets...

Notes:

Ok so to tell you the truth, this has a sex scene right in the middle that I didn't want to edit out, so I literally wrote in a fade to black to keep this fic PG. If you want to read the sex scene by itself, head over to the second part of this collection. :)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“Merry Christmas, Viktor!” Jayce’s booming voice rang, startling the still rather tired scientist awake.

“Ah! Jayce! Merry uh… what? It’s Christmas already?” Viktor asked, doing his best to not slide off his chair from the surprise.

“Of course,” Jayce beamed, his smile stretching a mile wide, “It’s Christmas Eve, and I figured it’d make me a bad friend if I left you all holed up in this lab alone.”

Viktor smiled and rubbed the sleep from his eyes. “Oh Jayce, nothing you do short of murder could make you a bad friend, we’ve been through too much for that.”

Jayce grinned once more and clapped his friend on the back. “Then come! My mother is preparing a special Christmas dinner, and I want you to be my guest of honor!”

“Oh Jayce, that’s very kind of you, but I don’t cele-”

“Nonsense!” Jayce cut off as he dragged Viktor out of the lab, “We’re gonna go, have a good time and drink extremely spiked eggnog, got it? I told you, I’m not leaving you alone tonight!”

Viktor sighed and pulled himself free from his friend’s grip, which was just as hard as he expected with someone with his strength.

“Okay Jayce, but don’t expect a miracle.”

As the pair left the laboratory’s building, a heavy gust of wind sent snow flying across the sky. Piltover had been transformed, seemingly overnight, into a winter wonderland of sorts, with red and green lights strung up on the storefronts and across street lamps. The faint jingle of bells could be heard in the distance, along with the laughter and merriment of thousands of families.

“Ah, beautiful, isn’t it?” Jayce exclaimed, dragging Viktor into a carriage that had pulled up to the front.

“Very. I’m glad you arranged this ride, I didn’t bring a coat.” Viktor bluntly replied, shivering as his partner closed the carriage door behind them.

“Oh yeah, I uh… forgot mine too. I would’ve lent it to you but uh.. that wouldn’t really work now, would it?”

Viktor smiled and leaned his crutch against the carriage wall. The driver snapped the horse into movement and they took off down the road, presumably towards Jayce’s estate.

Viktor watched out the frosted window as the snow fell all around them, running his finger along a snowflake pattern that had formed.

“Beautiful, no?” Jayce hummed, leaning forward to look up at his friend, chin resting in his hand.

“Very. This is familiar weather to me, back when I lived in the undercity. It’s pleasant, until you have to go outside.”

“I bet. It’s definitely better when you’re inside, bonus points if you’re with someone you love.”

Viktor glanced over at the other scientist and raised an eyebrow. “Oh? Are you bringing a special someone to this… party?”

Jayce grinned and leaned back in his seat, letting out a relieved sigh. “I am. You’ll see them there.”

Viktor smiled and fiddled with his crutch between his legs. “That’s good, Jayce. I’m very glad you’ve found someone to rely on outside of work. What’s her name? Do I know her?”

“Oh, you’re very well acquainted.”

Viktor snorted. “Jayce, please, you don’t have to hold secrets from me. Tell me who she is.”

Jayce simply mimed sewing his mouth shut. “Nope. You’ll have to find out later.”

“You’re doing an awful amount of talking for a man with a shut mouth, Talis.”

“Oh bug off Vik, I’m having fun.”

Both men giggled and stared out the window at the passersby making their way through the snow, which was quickly picking up speed and turning into a blizzard.

“Jeez, hope those folk don’t get caught out in this,” Jayce murmured, turning in his seat, eyes tracking an elderly and her child huddled by the street corners, but one measly shawl shared amongst the two.

“Then invite them in, why don’t you?” Viktor asked with only a hint of sarcasm.

Jayce rolled his eyes and readjusted himself in his seat. “You know I can’t just invite any old person off the street, that wouldn’t be right. I appreciate the concern though.”

“Thanks,” Viktor smiled, coughing gently into his fist, “I’ve been told I’d make a horrible politician, I care too much about the common man.”

Jayce comically placed his hand over his own chest. “Viktor, my word! Just what are you trying to say about me? I am as kind as the day is long!”

Viktor glanced outside at the dark night sky and then down at his watch. 5:39pm .

“Sure you are, Jayce, that’s what I like about you. Such a big, strong, kind, honest man. A wonder to those around you.”

A hint of red appeared on the other man’s cheeks. “Oh, thank… you, Viktor. That’s… very sweet.”

“Don’t let it go to your head. I’m only being kind for the holidays, after this you get cynical-Viktor back.” The Zaunite deadpanned, twirling a pen between his fingers.

Jayce leaned forward again and patted Viktor’s knee. “Well, kind-Viktor, I’m glad you’re here with me. Even just for tonight.”

Viktor chuckled. “More like the whole week, but sure.”

The men chatted about science, the Hex Core, and a variety of other topics before the carriage pulled to a stop. Jayce stepped out first, and extended a hand to help his friend down the short steps to the slushy ground. The snow beat hard against their backs as they made their way to the front door. As Jayce lifted a hand to knock, his eyes shot wide open with a realization.

“Shit. I forgot to bring the wine. Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck , my mother is going to kill me!”

Viktor concealed his smile and patted his friend on his very firm back. “What, you mean House Talis doesn’t have an infinite supply of the highest quality wines in their basement? What else is being rich for, if not that?”

“Ah fuck off. I was told to bring one thing and I fucked it up. Just don’t ask my mother about drinks, maybe she’ll forget.” Jayce pleaded as he knocked on the heavy wooden door.

Soon, the door swung open and on the other side stood Ximena Talis, her eyes alight at the sight of her only son.

“Good evening, Mrs. Talis, I sure am parched after a long journey, have anything to drink?” Viktor didn't miss a beat, all scalding nonchalance as he stepped through the doorway, idly brushing off the snow that had accumulated on his shoulders to the floor.

“Oh I’m sure we do, dear,” Mrs. Talis replied, raising a single brow at her empty-handed son. “Although it seems we might be missing one. Jayce, dear, I gave you one task, didn’t I?”

“Yes, mom…” The very scientist replied sheepishly, sending an incredibly harsh death stare at Viktor, who simply stuck out his tongue in reply, out of Ximena’s peripheral vision.

“Hmph. Well, I’m just glad you and your friend got here in one piece. This snow is getting outrageous. Most of our guests are here, but I’m not sure if the Kebedes will be able to make it in this condition. But please, make yourselves comfortable, dinner will be soon.”

Ximena left the two men alone in the foyer, and Jayce let out a sigh.

“You’re a real asshole, Vik, you know that? What happened to nice-Viktor, for the holidays?”

Viktor pulled out his pocket watch and checked the date and time. “Holidays are over for me, Jayce.” He lied confidently.

“Over? It’s Christmas Eve.” Jayce scoffed, pulling Viktor into the kitchen. “We’ve still got plenty of time.”

Viktor shrugged and allowed himself to be dragged by his shirt throughout the rather posh halls of Jayce’s family home. The whole house was decorated in the style of art nouveau with golden accents. Viktor breathed deeply, and the smells of roasting meats and bubbling desserts filled his senses.

“Your house is lovely, Jayce. I wish mine had been this warm.” Viktor muttered, running his bony fingers along a mahogany railing.

“Aw, c’mon Viktor, I’m sure it wasn’t that bad.” Jayce smiled as he inspected a pie sitting on the kitchen counter. “I saw some pretty nice houses in the undercity.”

“Oh, you go to the undercity… often?”

Jayce turned around. “What are you trying to imply?”

“Did you find your “new girlfriend” in the undercity? You fool around down there a lot?”

Jayce’s mouth gaped open and closed like a fish. “Jeez, Vik, when’d you get so invested in my personal life? If I didn’t know any better I’d think you’d be jealous of those women and me- uh, I mean women. Just women.”

“Mhm, thanks for confirming that, Jayce. I had been wondering.” Viktor replied as he adjusted his tie.

“C-Confirming what?”

“Yes.”

“That didn’t help.”

“Neither have you.”
Jayce groaned loudly and swiftly left Viktor alone with the desserts. There was such a variety on the kitchen counter that Viktor had never seen before in his life. He recognized a couple pies and cakes, and he found it odd the Talis’ had opted for jelly doughnuts as well, it seemed so unlike them. Viktor looked around the kitchen, and upon seeing nobody, stuck his finger in the cream filling of one of the pies. It was really good; a bit too sweet for his liking, but still amazing nonetheless. He made sure to swirl the cream around so his intrusion wouldn’t be found.

Soon, Viktor found himself in the main dining hall. It was about the size of his and Jayce’s entire lab, and the ceilings arched overhead with crystal chandeliers hanging off the upside down steeples.

“Woah…” He mumbled to himself as he glanced down at the many guests seated at the table and around the fireplace at the furthest end of the room. A massive evergreen tree stood proudly in the corner, a million ornaments hanging from it’s branches. A variety of brightly colored presents layed scattered at the trunk, some with name tags, some without.

“Viktor, you’re here!” Jayce called from across the room. Viktor winced as his name was heard by everybody in the vicinity, even more so when they all turned to look at the man who had just hobbled in. As he took a step forward, his leg brace squeaked with rust and the sound pierced his ears. He immediately stopped in place and let Jayce come to him.

“Glad you could make it.” Jayce winked as he led Viktor to a place at the table.

“Yes, very glad I could,” Viktor replied with a smirk as he sat down, “I wouldn’t have been able to get here without the help of the wine delivery boy, but he seems to have scurried off someplace with a girl.”

“Yeah, sure.” Jayce jokingly confirmed as he rubbed Viktor’s scruffy hair. “Want me to bring you a drink? Not wine, of course. Some eggnog, perhaps?”

“What… is eggnog?” Viktor asked. “I’ve never had it before but I hear about it every winter season.”

Jayce blinked, amazed, and immediately left and then returned with two glasses. “It’s terrible, but with enough alcohol it makes it very enjoyable. Drink up.”

Viktor took a hesitant sip of the foaming white liquid in his mug, and he was nearly overwhelmed with the taste of bourbon and cinnamon burning his mouth and throat.

“Fuck, Jayce!” Viktor coughed as he tried to keep it inside him, “You people really drink this every year? Willingly?”

“Yes, we do, and we love it.” The other man laughed as he drank his down, “Want more?”

Viktor shook his head between coughs. “Thank you, no. I’m good on the white stuff for a while.”

Jayce giggled and left with both cups, leaving Viktor to people-watch at the table. He was considering getting up to make polite conversation, but he was honestly more interested in watching which person seated at the fireplace was the object of his partner’s attention. If Jayce’s little slip up earlier was anything to go by, it could be anybody in the room, save his mother, of course. There were several young, attractive men and women seated and standing, chatting and gesturing rather pointedly with each other. Viktor smiled, he was glad these people seemed to get along well.

Soon, Ximena exited from the kitchen with her son in tow. She held one bowl while Jayce seemed to be very cautiously balancing five on his arms.

“Dinner is ready!” She announced, gesturing towards the dining table in the center of the room. All of the guests seated themselves, making polite smiles at the outsider among them, but Viktor only returned a grin once Jayce had sat next to him.

“Ahhh, there we go,” Ximena beamed as servants brought the rest of the plates of food and drinks, “Now, we can have a real party!”

Despite his years living in Piltover already, Viktor was still a stranger to good food. He almost felt ashamed the last time he had seen grilled crispy bugmeat on a skewer and left with a watery mouth and a rumbling stomach. Even as he watched Jayce scoop a heap of buttery mashed potatoes, he still felt… not quite right, like this food wasn’t really meant for someone like him.

Viktor patiently waited for everybody else to be served before placing a small piece of grilled steak and mixed vegetables on his plate. He gently prodded the meat with his fork and watched the juices flow from the crevices. His mouth began to water, and all his previous objections melted away like the steak as he chewed a bite.

“Jayce, this is very good.” Viktor said with a slight grin, “My compliments to your mother!”

“Oh, she didn’t cook any of this, our servants did.” Jayce replied, trying to move more meat onto Viktor’s plate without him noticing, “My mother is good at drinking and talking, but cooking? That was more of my father’s thing, when he was here.”

Viktor nodded, and at the very least knew not to prod about a possibly dead parent.

“You know,” the Zaunite began after another bite, “During the holidays in my home, my mother would make everything herself. Lots of potato pancakes, brisket, the works. It was the only time a year we could afford jelly doughnuts. I… I miss it sometimes, but I’m glad I’m here, with you.”

“Potato pancakes? Is that like hash browns?” Jayce asked through a mouthful of green beans.

Viktor shrugged. “More or less.”

Jayce nodded and swallowed his food. “Sounds very homey. I like it.”

“It was, I suppose. I tend to look back on it with heart shaped glasses, so it makes it harder to remember the bad stuff.”

With a clap on the back, Jayce smiled and shook his partner gently. “I’m glad, Vik. I’m really glad you’re here, both here at this dinner and in Piltover. I don’t know what I would’ve done without you in the lab.”

Viktor chuckled. “Killed yourself, probably.”

Jayce rolled his eyes and plopped another heap of mashed potatoes onto Viktor’s plate. “C’mon, eat up. If I don’t feed you, my mother will, and she’s not as lenient as me. Not only that, she’ll complain to me in every letter that you’re not being fed enough.”

Viktor looked down at the literal mountain of food that had been placed there on his plate and then back to his friend. “That so?”

Jayce smiled with a twinkle in his eye. “Yeah, so eat your meats and greens, you might actually have a chance to win at arm wrestling with me.”

By the end of dinner, Viktor was so stuffed he could barely walk. Not that he could walk especially well in the first place, but now he was totally lethargic.

“Mmmmph, Jayce?” Viktor sleepily called out as most of the guests had removed themselves from the dining table, opting instead to return back to the lounge. Viktor’s eyelids felt incredibly heavy as he watched the blurry figures laugh with each other.

“Yeeeeeees?” The other man softly called back, resting a hand on his friend’s shoulder to let him know he was there.

“Thanks… for the evening,” Viktor moaned happily, running a hand across his stomach. “I know I give you shit all the time, but I’m glad you’re nice to me.”

“Of course, why wouldn’t I be?”

Viktor tilted his head so it would rest gently atop Jayce’s.

“Not many people have been nice to me, Jayce. I’m… not used to luxury, and it seems like you were born in the lap of it.” Viktor opened his eyes and stared up at his partner with half-lidded eyes. “I’m jealous of you, you know?”

Jayce placed his other hand on Viktor’s gaunt cheek and patted him gently. “I know, Vik. I can’t help it and neither can you. But forget all that, I want you to know you’re in a very good place now.”

Viktor smiled lazily again and giggled to himself. “I know, Jayce, I know.”

With that, Jayce yanked Viktor’s chair away from the table, almost making the scientist fall flat to the floor for the second time in a night.

“C’mon, Vik! The present giving is about to happen, and I want to give you yours away from everyone else!”

Viktor shakily picked himself up and stood to attention. “Oh, is it a new watch? I already have one, thank you.”

Jayce smirked and pulled Viktor by the hands away from the dining table, back through the foyer, and up the large staircase to the second floor, much to the protestations of the weaker man. Viktor was impressed that he was able to follow Jayce so quickly up the stairs without taking another half hour to shimmy up with his cane.

“Jayce, please, where are you taking me?!” Viktor laughed loudly as he slid down the waxed marble floor. Eventually the pair stopped at a door towards the end of the hall. There was a large ‘J’ elegantly carved into it above a brass knocker. It didn’t take Viktor long to guess who the room belonged to.

“You forget your gift in there, Jayce?” Viktor asked, craning his neck to see behind his friend’s massive form.

“Sort of,” Jayce replied, unlocking the door with a key produced from his pocket, “It’s just… kinda embarrassing to give it to you in front of my mother, that’s all.”

“Embarrassing?” Viktor scoffed, hitting Jayce in the legs with his cane, “What am I to you, chopped liver? Why not give me a gift proudly instead of tucked away in your room?”

“Because… it’s taken me a long time to find the courage to give it to you.”

Click . The door opened and Jayce beckoned his partner inside.

Viktor sighed and followed dutifully, sitting himself down on Jayce’s extremely plush bed. The walls were a plain pastel blue and covered almost from floor to ceiling with notes and papers that funneled down onto a desk in the corner of the room. Viktor ran his hand along Jayce’s bed, and he shivered at the soft silk of the top sheet. With another sigh, he leaned back on the bed; and even Jayce’s pillows were immaculate. Viktor arched his neck against the silken covering and squirmed on the bed to find a more comfortable position, not noticing how his friend stared at him with an intensely flushed expression.

“You uh… ahem… you having fun there, Vik?” Jayce coughed to get his friend’s attention.

“Very. I never knew you loved such softness, you big, tough man.”

Hey , don’t patronize me, I have very sensitive skin, okay? It’s a condition.”

“Mhmmmm,” Viktor giggled quietly as he pulled himself up to a sitting position, hands resting between his legs, “Such soft skin on such a strong man, how ironic. Do you moisturize every morning too?”

“As a matter of fact, I do. Also, fuck off, you’re on my bed, you know?”

Viktor fell backwards with a sigh, drawing imaginary snow angels on Jayce’s sheets, just to feel more of the silky goodness.

“You know, Jayce, I may never leave this bed.”

Jayce shrugged, just barely in Viktor’s peripheral vision. “Fine with me. I’d much rather do our work fifty feet from my estate’s kitchen anyways, beats the microwaved spinach and potato… things… you’re always making in our lab.”

Viktor raised his index finger high into the air and waggled it for emphasis. “My knishes are delicious and you know it. You’ve never complained about them before.”

“Yeah, because they always glue my mouth shut with how much shit you pack into them.”

Viktor smiled and finally picked himself back up and sat with his elbows in his lap, his head resting in his hands. “So, what were you going to give me?”

Jayce reached underneath his bed and pulled out a plain brown paper box. Viktor was almost disappointed, he figured that a high class boy like Jayce could at least afford some decent wrapping paper. The other scientist sat down on the bed next to Viktor, and the Zaunite felt the bed sink far from the weight.

“Viktor, I… I don’t really know how to… you know… say this…” Jayce began, droplets of sweat appearing on his brow.

Viktor raised an eyebrow and laughed nervously. “Jayce, it’s a Christmas gift, it’s not that serious.”

“W-Well, it is. I’ve wanted to give it to you ever since we met. Well, really more like a couple months after, but close enough.”

“You’ve waited seven years to give this to me? I’m surprised you had the willpower to last this long.”

Jayce looked away, almost ashamedly. “Yeah… me too.”

With a grin, Viktor swung his legs over the side of the bed, closed his eyes, and held out his hands. “There, now there’s no apprehension of a good line. Give me the gift, I’ll judge it for myself.”

Viktor waited to feel weight in his hands. He honestly couldn’t tell how long he had kept his eyes closed as he sat with baited breath for his gift.

But before Viktor could open his eyes to ask what was taking so long, he felt lips press strongly against his own. In a moment of uncertain panic, Viktor’s eyes shot open and he pulled violently backwards, his breathing coming to a stop for just a moment.

“Oh, fuck, Viktor, I’m sorry, I-I-I… I didn’t mean t-to- I mean I did bu-”

“Jayce!” Viktor yelled, grabbing his friend by the shoulder to stop him from overreacting. The two men breathed together quietly until Viktor spoke.

“You… you took seven years to give me… that?”

Jayce nodded, watery puppy-dog eyes on full blast.

Viktor felt a tear slide down his cheek, and he grabbed ahold of both sides of Jayce’s head as their mouths embraced once more, Viktor’s dry, chapped lips against Jayce’s soft ones. Fuck, Jayce really wasn’t kidding about moisturizing every day.

Viktor didn’t know whether their kiss lasted for a couple seconds or a few hours, but when they eventually pulled away, the Zaunite knew it was the happiest he had felt in years. Viktor had only kissed a couple of people before, but those had been girls in his school, some fellow dweebs who had found something endearing about the poor crippled nerd with the personality of a skittish cat. But this was so much better than that. It had the same notes as the kisses of before, just in a different tune, one that could almost make Viktor belt out in song.

“Jayce…” Viktor whispered as their faces stayed close together. Gingerly, he placed two fingers under his partner’s chin and planted a kiss tenderly on his cheek. “I never knew. How did you hide this for so long?”

Jayce gulped and pulled away, resting his hands in his lap. “I don’t know. I guess it started out as a feeling of owing you a debt, I suppose. For saving my life. Then over time I realized it was more than just gratitude. You saved my life, and now… I can’t imagine it without you.”

Viktor felt joy spread like blooming flowers through his chest. He immediately pounced on Jayce with all the strength he could muster, and peppered kisses across his whole face. The other man wrapped his strong arms around Viktor’s body to keep him close as Viktor’s lips roamed from neck to eyelids to cheeks.

“Vik, please, oh my, Viktor, stop, that tickles!” Jayce giggled like a schoolboy who had just confessed love to his crush, “If you don’t stop I’ll have to kiss you back!”

“Oh yeah?” Viktor teased as he nuzzled into his partner’s neck, “Then do it, coward!”

Within an instant, Jayce grabbed Viktor by the waist and flipped him over so that his back hit the mattress. Jayce’s powerful legs straddled either side of Viktor’s bony hips, and he immediately began to return the favor with energetic and slightly sloppy kisses all along Viktor’s pale skin. The Zaunite felt like he was about to lose it from the exhilaration flooding his senses. He placed his hands on Jayce’s firm chest as the two men kissed on the lips once more, their tongues grazing against one another as the kiss became even more passionate. For just a moment, Viktor felt Jayce’s crotch grind against his own, and he immediately moaned out of the kiss.

“F-Fuck, Jayce. I… Did you mean to… you know?”

Jayce pouted and lightly licked his lips. “I did. Did I make you uncomfortable?”

Viktor could feel his cheeks heating up. “N-No, I’m fine, you just… move so fast.”

Jayce leaned back over so that their noses touched. “Would you like me to keep going?”

Viktor nodded and pecked his lover’s nose with his lips. “Yes, please. I’m a big boy, I can handle it.”

[Fade to black, fade in]

Viktor simply smiled and covered his face with his arms and moaned happily, stretching all the limbs he could feel.

“Hey, Jayce?” Viktor mused through his arms.

“Yes?”

“I love you.”

Viktor felt lips place a kiss on his sweaty forehead, and the weight of the bed sank next to him as Jayce laid down. Before long, Viktor felt Jayce wrap his muscled arms around the other man’s skinny body, although Viktor did his best to escape.

“Jayyyyyce, please, you’re all sweaty!”

“And so are you, bring it in, buddy boy.”

Viktor couldn’t protest as his face was squished against Jayce’s sweaty but very soft chest. He buried his nose between Jayce’s well-formed pecs and sighed happily, breathing in the still-lingering scent of his partner’s cologne.

The two men laid there for some time, not saying a word, just basking in the light of the moon and each other’s presence. Every time Viktor adjusted himself on the bed and felt the shift of the silk blanket below him against his naked flesh he shivered slightly. He also did his best to avoid the small pool of cum that had leaked onto the sheets.

There was a knock at the door that startled both men out of their near-slumber.

“Jayce, dear!” Ximena Talis called from the other side. “Are you in there? I haven’t seen you or your friend in ages, are you alright?”

“I’m alright, mom! Just showing Viktor my collection of… stamps.”

Viktor heard Ximena chuckle from the other side. “I see. Well keep the stamp excitement down, I nearly had to explain to my friends that our home may be haunted.”

Viktor saw Jayce’s face flush a deep red. “Okay mom. I’ll- We’ll be down in a minute.”

As the sounds of heels on marble became more distant, Viktor burst out laughing, barely able to contain it in his stomach.

“Oh my gods, Jayce, I cannot believe you!”

“Hey, you were the one making all the noise! Fuck off!”

Viktor suddenly adopted a very serious look, but the thought of Ximena scolding her son for fucking too loudly made him break face and he doubled over again in giggles.

“Viktor, please, I don’t want to think about all that!”

The brunette’s laughter died down, and he leaned up in bed, resting the side of his head on his hand.

“So,” Viktor began in a slightly sing-song way, “What was in that box, anyways?”

Jayce looked down and picked up the plain brown paper box from before and opened it, revealing nothing inside.

“Ah, I see. The gift was the friends we made along the way.” Viktor mused, pointing at the box and then to Jayce for effect.

Jayce pressed their lips together again, but lightly, without much force. “Or the boyfriends.”

Viktor pulled away in mock horror. “Boyfriend s ? As in plural? Jayce, you whore, I thought you loved me!”

“I do, I do!” The raven-haired man laughed as he pinched Viktor’s cheek, “I’m just messing, I promise. Now c’mon, let's get dressed, I’m starving.”

Viktor smiled and joined his newfound boyfriend in getting dressed, with some help for the spinal brace. Viktor found it refreshing that he’d been able to keep himself up without it this long, but he felt more assured when it snapped back into place around his torso.

“Oh yeah, Viktor, before I forget,” Jayce asked as he opened the door to let them both out after putting the rest of their clothes back on, “Why don’t you celebrate Christmas? Is it a religious thing?”

Viktor stopped in the doorframe and pushed his still sweaty hair back against his scalp.

“Yes, Jayce, it is.” He deadpanned. “I’m Jewish.”

Jayce opened his mouth and raised a finger, but then brought both down and to a close.

“Ah. That would… that would do it. Happy Hanukkah, I think?”

Viktor smiled and leaned against his cane. “You’re about a week late but… thank you, Jayce, chag sameach!”

“Chag sameach!” Jayce replied eagerly, somehow mispronouncing just about every syllable in the phrase.

Viktor smiled gently and leaned up on his toes to kiss Jayce on the lips. The kiss lasted for just a moment, but in the glow of the moonlight, framed by the doorway and the windowpane behind them, Viktor felt truly alive.

“Well, c’mon then!” Viktor grinned as he grabbed his boyfriend’s hand and led him back towards the stairs, “Let’s go prove to your mother’s friends that your house isn’t haunted afterall!”
