Chapter 1: First meetings are tough, amirite?

Chapter Text

"Oh, come on, they can't be THAT bad!"

"Trust me, they are."

You cocked your head, smiling at Cross. He was such a sweetie, but...  also super insecure at times. "Look, they're your friends! If they're anything like you, I'll love them." He seemed hesitant at the word "friends", but he didn't hesitate at answering you. "No, they're seriously horrible people."

"Stop." You were absolutely serious. He looked like he was going to say something, but you shushed him with a single finger to his mouth. "Don't try to talk me OR yourself out of it. We're going to have a. Fantastic. Time." You smiled and hugged him. He smiled and hugged you back. You loved his smile, it was adorable and heartbreaking at the same time. He seemed to have a slight internal debate before relenting and speaking up again.

"Alright. Let's go."

You blinked and suddenly, you weren't in your apartment anymore.

You were in a void.

With three other sans-es.

You were aware of the multiverse- hell, you had XTale!Sans as your bone-friend. But these were...

These were special.

You broke away from the hug. One of them, wearing a light blue jacket with a fuzzy hood spoke up. He had black... something coming out of his eyes, and a red target in front of his black shirt-ed chest. He looked like a regular Sans, but with black weirdness, a red target in front of his chest, and... oh god. A knife.

A goddamn knife.

Yeah, okay, maybe Cross was right.

You tuned back into what he was saying.

"Wow, Cross. Really got lucky with this one, huh?"

He had a psychotic grin on his face, with one skeletal equivalent of an eyebrow raised. You instantly disliked him. Returning the snarky look, you opened your mouth to respond, but Cross spoke up before you could.

"Shut up, Killer."

The psychotic smile on "Killer's" face only grew. "Oh, getting defensive now, are we?"

"I said shut up."

Another one of the skeletons spoke. This one seemed to be melting into black goop. Well... Black that shone green-ish. Same outfit as a regular sans, though. This grin was sadistic. "Now, now. Let's not let this escalate. I'd rather not lose another henchman."

Killer smirked. "Aw, come on, boss. It'll be fun!"

The third skeleton said something, finally. This one was wearing a gray hood over his head, and had- oh wow. One eye was red, the other was blue outlined in red. Each blazing with... actual determination, now that you think about it. They unnerved you... Anyway. What was he saying?

"Okay, can't fight now. Horror's not here."

He had a slightly scratchier voice than the rest of them... and he, too, seemed dangerous as hell. Killer spoke again. "Dust! You're not helping! Help me convince the boss!"

Dust seemed to be the mature one in this group. "No. We've gotten off-track. Besides, Nightmare isn't gonna be convinced." Okay, quick recap. Goop skeleton: Nightmare. Goop from eyes: Killer. Weird eyes: Dust.

Well, now it's time to speak. You inhaled.

"HEY! YOU MAY HAVE FORGOTTEN BUT HI! I'M A HUMAN! NICE TO MEET YOU ALL!"

The reactions from each were- well, pretty funny, to say the least.

Cross jumped slightly, and made a small "shush"-ing noise.

Dust raised his non-existent eyebrows, face completely devoid of any emotion.

Killer's grin widened, seeming amused.

Nightmare seemed not at all surprised. In fact, his reaction was very similar to Killer's. Just straight amusement.

Killer responded immediately to your yelling. "Hm. Interesting. It speaks?"

Yeah, okay, he's mocking me.

You cross your arms and raise your eyebrows. "Yes. I speak. Although I think you'll find I'm not an 'it'."

His grin got wider and he stepped closer to you. "Oh, really."

Cross stepped in front of you. Protective, which was sweet. However, you could stand up for yourself. Stepping in front of HIM, you talked back at this little shit called Killer. "Yes, really."

Oh god, you wanted to kick that smirk right off of his face.

...Should you tell him your name? Eh, got nothing more to lose. You started to say your name, then-

"I'm sure you have a lot to say, but right now, I'm not concerned about you." Dust had spoken.

Great. Now he was in the conversation.

"Dust, don't interrupt them! It's very entertaining to watch them bicker." And there's Nightmare. Because there are still more beings here. Great job, me. You managed to forget about them. Your exasperated surprise must've shown, because Nightmare chuckled. Killer spoke AGAIN- just SHUT. UP.- "Aw, forgot about them, sweetie?"

Oh.

OH.

OHHHHHHHHHHHH GOD NO.

Well.

You're NOT dealing with this shit anymore.

"Ha. My name is NOT sweetie."

"So, what is your name?"

"What reason do I have to trust you with it, asshole?!"

Cross stifled- a laugh? Well, good. At least someone was getting something out of this.

Killer seemed undeterred. Does anything get this guy to shut up??  "Aw. Cute. Trying to be a smartass, eh? Yeah, no. You're horrible at that, sweetie."

THIS-

He only laughed. "Now, don't get upset. That might cause a mess."

Nightmare snickered, and Dust just put a palm to his forehead.

Okay, you're done with these assholes.

Fuck this shit, I'm out.

You turned around to Cross, arms crossed, anger visible.

"Well. I'm ready to go."

Cross nodded and opened a single skeletal hand. You took it and... wait. Might as well make this fun.

You turn around, facing the other three. "Goodbye. Hope to never see you again."

Nightmare smirked. "Can't say the same. Cross, bring this thing again sometime."

You were not taking any of this bullshit anymore. Turning one final time to Cross, you raised your eyebrows. Cross blinked a couple of times, probably confused as to what just happened. You were also confused, to be honest. But you had stood up for yourself.

That felt pretty damn good.
