Work Text:

"Wh- what?" He spluttered. His eyes focused onto the figure across him. He was around his size, and height. The simple clothes he wore was black, paired with white pants. Even his hair matched his clothes!

Instantly, a name popped into his mind, and his lips curve unknowingly.

"What are you doing here?" His smile grew wider, and the tip of his fangs peeked out.

"I'm lost," Licht simply replied. His eyes bored into Lawless's and though his eyes were fierce and as cold as ice, his voice was neutral, and calm. As if this was a usual occurence, Hyde scoffed a little.

"Yeah, well, you don't just get lost in someone's mind." Lawless huffed, making sure to draw out the last word for emphasis.

Licht merely shrugs."I woke up here. From all I know this is your doing, demon. It happened before, anyway,"

Lawless could feel a retort forming on the his tongue, and the words were about to roll off of it before Licht interrupted.

He stepped closer to Lawless, purposely drawing out each step as he stared back, a nonchalant look on his face. Finally, when he was just but an inch away from touching noses with the blonde, he asked, "So where's the way out?"

Lawless felt as if cold water had suddenly been splashed over him. He tensed, eyes growing wide. Amusement sparkled in Licht's eyes as his eyes scanned his face.

A sudden dread rose within Lawless. He fumbled with the ends of his vest, struggling to find the right words.

Under Licht's expectant gaze, he felt worse, like little bits of himself was crumbling when he realised he didn't know where to go.

He too, had been stuck in his own mind for what felt like days. Forced to relive the past, and to unwillingly walk through the memory lane.

Licht had helped him earlier, sure, and Lawless was grateful.

It was easier to face himself with Licht by his side. Because Licht had pushed him, knowing that a harsh shove (or two) would help him face his past and all the issues he had been running from and to finally get a grip.

But it didn't mean he loved reliving the past. It didn't mean he accepted Ophelia's death, or how he was betrayed by his own family, or how he was such a coward.

Licht helped him come to terms with the past. And the simple reality that one cannot simply go back in time to change it. He had merely accepted that what happened, happened.

"What's done, is done," Hyde remembers Licht saying.

And yet? He found himself sometimes in bed next to Licht, fantasizing. What if he could go back? What if he wasn't such a coward? He chuckles a little at the thought. If Licht could hear what he was thinking, he was sure Licht woukd kick him to hell and back.

"...I don't know where to go," He finally says. He cringed a little- he hadn't meant to sound so soft, so vulnerable.

Licht cocked his head to the side. "What do you mean?"

"I don't know! I tried finding a way out, but all I end up is finding thorns and roses and coming back to this stupid theatre."

Ironic, isn't it? He thinks to himself. Roses and thorns. Ah, it reminded him of all the Shakespeare's tragic plays that he loved so much

Licht had been silent for awhile, eyes fixed on the ground as Licht folded his arms.

It's something Licht does when he's deep in thought.

"Well," Licht finally said, although it was accompanied with a sigh.

Holding out a hand to him, Licht suggested to walk together, and find the exit.

Lawless was surprised by Licht's hand thats outstretched, offering to take his hand.

A smile formed on his lips as he took Licht's hand, and butterflies fluttered in his chest. He chatised himself for feeling all giddy from just a simple gesture. But it was probably because it came from Licht, he reasoned.

As they walked together, trading shallow insults or talking about the most blandest of things, Hyde could feel the boulder he didn't even knew was resting on his chest begin to lift.

And eventually, it was gone.

As he reveled in the sensation, Licht's grip on his hand had tightened.

Lawless looked up, only to see a bright white rectangle, almost as if it was a portal.

"That's the exit, isn't it?"

Lawless could only nod, throat suddenly going dry. He marveled at the sight, eyes watering, even. How long he remained frozen at the spot, gaze fixated on the exit was unknown to him, but a sudden tug on his hand instantly snapped him back.

Licht began to run, and Lawless followed suit, and suddenly, it became a mini competition between them as they raced to be the first to jump into the exit.

Yet, even so, their hands had stayed clasped together, their grips both tight as they rushed and leapt through the beaming white door.

As they did so, Hyde jolted awake.

"Licht-tan?" Hyde whispered, breathless, as his chest rises up and down.

Darkness surrounded them, and only the soft sound of the clock ticking could be heard. Apart from the rustling and shifting of the sheets, and his pants.

He heard Licht stir beside him, and Hyde turned to look at him. Licht's haid was a mess, looking equally disheveled yet thrilled as his eyes met Hyde's.

"So you did knew the path, after all," Hyde could pratically hear the smile in his voice even though Licht's face remained passive. However, his blue eyes gleamed with a pride that got Hyde's cheeks tinted with pink.

Hyde shook his head. "No way," he started. "We were just talking, and I was following you. You seemed to know the path,"

Licht blinked. "Really? Because I was following you."

A silence washed over them. They stared at each other, baffled. Before laughter erupted from both of them, and Hyde gripped Licht's hand tighter as they did so.

Both of them stared down, realising their hands were still clasped together, fingers intertwined.
