i’ll spend my life with you

Summary:

mike thinks these are his favorite moments. when it’s just him and micky and nothing else and no one else.

yeah, mike thinks they’re his favorite.

Work Text:

spending personal time with micky felt like the peace before a rainstorm— the serene lack of tension flowed around like string.

this was what mike loved the most. don't get him wrong, he loved the other guys. davy and peter had their own unique quirks, but micky... he was different.

at the moment, he was balancing on top of an old wood fence, one foot in front of the other, clunky camera over his eye. he kept his view forward, hand out to hold on to mikes for balance.

it was a beautiful grassy knoll that occupied an abandoned farm, the long fence rotting away with moss and insects.

"man, i don't know how you do that," mike mused. he watched as micky smiled behind the camera.

"do what?"

"balance so well. aren't you scared you'll fall off? you can't even see properly! and what if you get a splinter?"

all micky did was snicker at the concern, bare feet moving one before the other.

"you worry too much," he mused. finally, he snapped a photo, pulling the camera away and letting go of mike to grab the picture as it came out, handing it to mike. "shake it," he demanded.

and mike shook it. micky hopped off the fence with clumsy grace, landing in the grass.

micky loved walking on the grass. only while he wasn't wearing shoes— he found it disgraceful to walk in the grass with shoes, and he didn't let mike do it while they were hanging out together unless necessary.

they stood in silence for about five minutes as the photo dried.

"how's it look," micky asked, and mike moved to stand beside him, showing the picture.

grainy light blues and purples and pinks that mixed together behind hills and trees.

and micky giggled, doing his usually happy little dance that always made mike melt. he jumped just off the toes of his feet, hands grabbing mikes arm joyfully.

he loved photographs.

that was the reason mike, davy and peter scraped up $20 together to buy micky a camera for the young man's birthday. their apartment from then on was filled with pictures.

"looks great, mick," mike mused.

micky grinned, turned fully toward mike and grabbed his collar to pull him into a kiss. mikes hands found his waist, and micky was softly pushed against the little wood fence.

it was like a scene out of a fairytale. setting sun and butterflies and green grass stretching on.

and mike and micky.

before they pulled away, mike heard a small click, and he internally rolled his eyes.

he pulled back to see a smile on mickys face, dolenz grabbing the picture and shaking it. and mike couldn’t help but admire how truly happy he looked.

“boy, do you know what you do to me,” mike mumbled.

“i know exactly what i do to you.”

after a little, mike could see that the picture was surprisingly nice. it got both of them centered— impressive.

"where are you gonna put that one, huh mick?"

"oh, you know. i was thinking about putting it outside out front door," micky joked, placing the picture in his pocket. mike snickered at it, allowing his hand to be grabbed as he was pulled along.

“just you try,” mike replied. “i’ll wack you upside the head.”

mike walked along a dirt path. micky walked along the grass. it was quiet and peaceful, and soon micky had climbed back on the fence.
