Work Text:
It had been one year. One year since Shane and Ryan finally got together. One year full of love, laughter, longing, hurt, heartache, happiness, and much more. One year of 'I love you'. One year of 'Promise you'll never leave'. Just one roller coaster year.
Neither knew how their relationship would work out. Both were awkward at first, but with time it became easier. With time, they grew inseparable. They were Ryan and Shane, never viewed as individuals much anymore. It's not like either payed much mind to it though.
They had their fair share of hard times. Long distances separated them the most, but that only made their love stronger. Some fights were pretty nasty, and the thought of ending something so special made it hard for them to continue with the arguing. Family gave them a rough time, they weren't very supportive with the whole same-sex relationship thing. Being put through all of that, and much more, only made them fall deeper in love.
If you asked Shane what he loved most about Ryan, he'd say the way Ryan lights up when talking about his passions. You could ask the shorter lad about his favorite conspiracy theory and Ryan would just go off on a tangent. Shane loved that the most. The conversation was never dull and it showed how strongly he felt about any subject matter.
What does Ryan love about Shane, you ask? The list goes on and on. However, his immediate response would be how funny the Slendershane is. In any awkward situation, you could count on Shane to lighten the mood. It's like his superpower! And boy, oh boy, does it make Ryan smile like a fool. They've shared many laughs and wheezes because of the taller lad.
As nice as it is talking about what they love about each other, let's look into the struggle it took to get here, yeah? It all started with Shane's psycho girlfriend, Bella. Bella was nice at first, but she forced Shane into a relationship. Ryan could tell that his friend wasn't happy at all, but he kept his mouth shut about it. After a long month of contemplating what to do, Shane broke things off. He realized his feelings for Ryan, but he chose not to say anything.
A couple of excruciating weeks passed before either of them confessed anything to the other. Ryan was the one to insinuate it. After joking around about how he'd kiss Shane if he didn't shut up, he noticed just how easy it would be to confess. Shane was flustered for a few minutes before Ryan came out and said he wanted to be in a relationship with him. Ever since, they've been together.
Days felt like weeks and weeks felt like months. Time just seemed to disintegrate and disappear. Everyone thought they were crazy when they were saying 'I love you' after two hours of being together. They didn't understand that the two lovebirds had been waiting so long for each other. They finally found their other half, why would they waste what little time they're given?
Some placed bets that they wouldn't last. Others placed bets that they'd be together forever, even after death. Those that were left, just didn't seem to care about the couple at all, as long as they were happy, why do bets matter?
Shane and Ryan ignored the verbal abuse they received from some loved ones and colleagues that weren't supportive. They were extremely happy for once in their life, they weren't going to let anyone tear them apart now. Besides, the hate they got only fueled their strength to be together.
To this day, no one really understands how or why it happened the way it did. Not that it's any of their business in the first place, but some are still curious, why those two? The answer is quite simple, because it just is.
That brings us to the final question everyone is dying to know, how are they going to celebrate their one year anniversary? And I'm pleased to tell you everything planned!
First, a delicious homemade breakfast served to Ryan from Shane. Next, a trip out to restock everything they've run out of. After that, is a nice lunch out. And finally, they come back home, start a movie, and snuggle.
That's everything that was planned. However, to say they never got out of bed would be an understatement. They wasted the day away in each other's arms. Looking, touching, grazing, and loving every inch of each other was how they spent their first anniversary. Neither was disappointed or dissatisfied, they couldn't have imagined a better way to spend the day. Their favorite part of it all, was the 'I love you' that was occasionally whispered within the comfortable silence.
Hours passed away and soon it was darkness that brought them into reality. The small kisses, the lustful but longing looks, the 'I love you's, the words that would never be spoken to another soul, the other special things that made the day perfect was now engraved into their memories. No one else would ever know of the personal things that were said. No one would know that Shane proposed, and no one would know that Ryan said yes.
