Summary:

Chapter 1: Robin is Magic

Chapter Text

Robin is magic.

That's what Jason used to say when he wore the colors, sometimes he could feel himself believe it and do wonders on patrol, there was even a point where he swore he could fly and go from one roof to the other not knowing what gravity was, thinking he got wings on his back that would always make sure he didn't fall.

Jason should had know life was too normal for that to just be a metaphor.

"What the fuck do you mean I'm a meta?"

Bruce looked at him with that blank face he always had when he was talking bussiness and just pointed at the results in the batcomputer, which apparently weren't done today after he had fallen from a 14 stories building and had survived to tell the tale without a single scratch on him.

No, they had been done 3 months ago when Bruce had started to suspect something wasn't adding up with Jason.

"You seem to have some kind of reality manipulation ability, at some point you have managed to fly, make yourself invulnerable, you controlled the air around you and then the next second you... are back to normal. You have no idea of what you're doing, you just seem to want something to happen when fighting and it does. I did the test when you became Robin, you weren't a meta then, but... you have the metagen now."

The Lazarus pit isn't supposed to give you superpowers last time he checked, only murderuous rage and maaaybe some enhanced healing.

And seriously, if reality manipulation was a thing, the Joker would have been dead by know, he certainly willed it enought.

That last part he said it out loud.

Bruce made a grimace.

"Please no murder thoughts."

"It's the only thing I'm going to be thinking about from dawn to sunset if what you're saying is true."

Obviously that only got the Bat to sigh in exasperation.

"I'm telling you because it's getting way more noticiable by others and you need to be careful, we have no idea of what you are capable of, I called the Justice League so we can figure out what kind of mutation you have."

There was a part of Jason that figured that having powers was going to be awesome.

Another part of him just wanted to forget what he was just told because Batman was already on his case over every single bad move he did.

If he had powers retiring from the vigilante life would be the only way to have peace.

Chapter 2: We are Robins

Summary:

Dick Grayson is Batman and he is trying to teach his little brother what it means to be Robin.

Notes:

Dick Grayson's POV.

Chapter Text

"No"

Robin looked at him ready to strike for daring to say the forbidden words, the ones he always seemed to use on others but shouldn't be applied to him. Apparently being Batman doesn't automatically get you any respect.

"If you can tell me why I'm telling you no we'll go for ice cream after patrol."

Damian looked at him sideways from his hood, now interested. Good, now at least he could get something out of the kid apart from just disobedience.

"It's stupid, I'm perfectly capable of taking care of myself, I've been alone in the wilderness and survived, why shouldn't Robin go out alone?"

"That's what I'm asking you to think over" said Dick with exhasperation and fondness, the kid had gotten to him in the last few weeks even if every patrol usually had a discussion in it.

They were standing in a very remote part of the city, the night had been slow which Dick thanked because last week had been a nightmare. Batman had dissappeared for 9 weeks and Gotham had just gone straight to hell, it was so not fair. The entire batfamily was helping him take care of the city but sometimes the stress was too much.

Also, raising Damian Wayne was going to give him white hair, he was about to become Jason 2.0.

"And?" because he needed for Robin to mull this over.

Those green eyes looked at him and Dick knew he was evaluating his response. Sometimes he wanted to shake that look away from the child, people shouldn't be weighting their self worth on how correct an answer was.

Mistakes were allowed, learning by them was ok, he would get that message through some day.

"I can protect myself" he said with finality.

Sigh.

"I know you can, but just how much does your survival rate goes down if you have no one by your side?" Maybe logic will get through him, he moved next to him and put his hand on his shoulders. "Life will happen, that's a certainty and the moment you are alone is the moment you can find yourself in a situation you may never get out of. You can be prepared for a hundred scenarios, you only need scenario 101 to screw you over."

After that he paused and put a little more pressure on the shoulders of his little brother, to let him know he was there in more ways than one.

"Damian" and the name was dropped with so much love that the child looked at him with surprise. "The league taught you to survive, to kill and be a weapon, it didn't teach you to live the kind of lives we want for you and we hope you choose to have. I don't want you to think that the mission that Bruce had was everything there is to life. There's kindness, love, happiness, hope, faith, peace. The mission should be done seriously but with the same rules we apply to our everyday life, if we cannot live it that way, we shouldn't be out in patrol because then we would have lost sight of why we are here. Being safe, making sure you always have backup is absolutely necessary to be at peace, you can't do everything, at some point you will need help, that's life.

"Father always said the mission was first." it was said with a whisper.

"If he ever did said that to you I have two words for that: fuck batman" and he looked at the kid with fierce eyes. "Robin is about bringing light to the world. You can't hope to light up even a candle if you don't have the sun inside you kid, know that, because that's what Robin meant to me, and I'm the OG Robin, I created what it meant. "
