Chapter Text
"sure, man! You can tell us anything!" Kel said, bringing a slight lightheartedness to the sudden silence. Sunny, on his knees, looks up to his friends who all gaze in concern. His mouth opens, words pour, yet sting like venom in his heart. "Mari...it's all my fault. I...pushed her...I killed her...I...hung her," His eyes water, he stares down.
Aubrey clenches her fists as she trembles, she wanted to punch him - yet, so did Hero. Kel looks to Hero, his normally kind eyes are filled with hate and...also pain, worry and confusion. But Hero lets out a sigh, making the other two's stiff posture, loosen. Sunny did not expect this outcome, his friends had every right to be angry. Sunny murdered his sister, and hung her. Part of him thought that maybe if he hadn't attempted to cover it up as a suicide, just maybe, his friends would forgive him. They would see it as it truly was - an accident.
His friends, all leave. In silence, leaving Sunny to the cold hospital floor. He looks up, finding the door slowly close behind the three. "W-wai--" as he stumbles to stand, a sudden pain urges him back down. He grabs at his patch on his face, feeling the crimson liquid seep through. The heart monitor beside his bed beeps with urgency, two nurses quickly enter to be of assistance.
Kel stops as Aubrey and Hero begin descending the stairs, exiting the hospital, he looks to Sunny's room and watches as the nurses ramble inaudibly, hearing the distant sound of Sunny's heart monitor, forces him to speak. "Something's happening over in Sunny's room, I think he got hurt." Kel says, turning back to Aubrey and Hero. Aubrey stops, but Hero does not. "Aubrey..." Kel says softly. Aubrey shakes her head, continuing down the staircase. Kel looks back to Sunny's room, "was all of that stuff true? What he said in there? Did he...really..." Kel pauses, "Sunny..." He whispers before continuing down the staircase.

"They said Sunny's going to be in the hospital for a few more days, so his mom postponed the move." Kel said, discussing the update to his mother. "Make sure you're there to visit," was probably what Kel's mother replied with if he'd been paying attention and not staring at Hero's room door, shut and locked. This time Kel wouldn't be able to intrude like he did when Hero had first grieved, this time... Hero wanted to be alone.
"I'm going out," Aubrey says to her mother who sits emotionless on a couch in front of a tv. She does not reply, "tch," Aubrey hisses, putting her shoes on and leaving the house. She makes her way to the hospital, stands at the desk. "Could....I see Sunny?" She asked a bit nervously, as the receptionist gives directions to Sunny's room, Aubrey could feel her heart pounding. Why? She would think to herself. "Sunny's a terrible person, so why am I...?" No. Aubrey shakes her head. "Sunny's not...a terrible person..." Aubrey corrects herself. She now stands outside his door, "Am...I the terrible person?" She whispers before knocking on the door. "Su-Sunny...?" She calls. "it's...me. I'm...here to.." Aubrey groans in frustration, she didn't need to explain herself, she opened the door.
Sunny, sitting on the hospital bed, his eyes lock gaze with Aubrey's. Aubrey could sense he was...surprised to see her. "I came to check on you," She said, stepping towards his bedside. "Yesterday...I heard there was some commotion." She said. She looked to his bedside to find a vase of tulips standing in the sunlight. "Did...Basil visit?" Aubrey asked. Basil was discharged from the hospital earlier that morning, and he managed to visit, leaving behind a gift. Sunny nodded, "I suppose he got discharged then," Aubrey mumbled. "Have you seen anyone else today? Hero? Kel?" She asked. Sunny looked away, towards the outside of the window. "I guess not." Aubrey sighed.
"Look," she said. "When you're all....fixed up or whatever, and if your mom isn't set on leaving instantly....you could give me a call and we could.." Aubrey stopped. "What am I even on about? How would you even be able to call?" She asked herself. Sunny slid out from under his pillow, a phone, a mobile phone gifted to him from his mother. "Huh?" Aubrey watched as Sunny slid her the phone. "You...have a phone," Aubrey grabbed the phone, putting in her number in. Her heart pounded once more as she saw, she was the first contact besides Sunny's mother. "O-Oh wow, I'm the first one." Aubrey said. "cool." She looked to Sunny, her face completely drenched in nervousness.
Sunny accepted the phone back, giving the keyboard a few clicks before Aubrey received a chirp of a notification on her phone. "Hi Aubrey," Aubrey read the text aloud. "pff-- you goof, I'm right here! You don't have to--" Aubrey looked back at her phone as she received another notification. "Thank you for being here." Aubrey whispered the text this time. "Y-Yea, it's no problem." She replied, looking back to Sunny. Sunny frowned a bit, continuing to type. "Do they hate me?" Aubrey read. This time she let out a sigh, "They...don't hate you. Well, I don't. It's just....hard to process right now." Aubrey said. "Hey," Aubrey lowered Sunny's phone from his hands. "Is there anything you'd like me to bring? Something to eat? Something to drink? I'm not going to buy that horrible Orange Joe stuff though," Aubrey stuck out her tongue in disgust. "Anything...gift-wise?" Aubrey asked. "yes..." Sunny whispered. "Could you bring..."
