Work Text:
Once upon a time, in a place of magic and mystery, two brothers, not by blood but by a bond stronger than destiny. These two kids lived in the land of L’manburg, a kingdom where all different races of people lived in unity and peace. Walking through the streets, you can hear the folk music being played by rams on their ocarinas. Large wooden ships enter a harbor and you can smell the salty ocean. Running through the streets and dodging people going through their day, Tommy could see several different types of people: dragons, wolves, demons, rams, wizards, and elves like him, all and more live here. Jumping over some boxes and looking around him, Tommy kept running until he reached a small cottage by the sea.
Trying to be as quiet as he could possibly be, Tommy entered the house through an open window on the second floor. Although the tall boy is very agile, with a pale complexion and clear, vibrant blue eyes, his large brown boots are not very useful when it comes to being quiet, and the young elf was immediately found by someone who appeared to be reading a book in a corner. "What do you think you're doing," said the person in the corner of the bedroom. "Will! Brother, I didn't know you were going to be here, how are you? Look, it's not what- ", the young elf was stopped by the werewolf loudley closing the book he was reading. "Tommy, why are you entering my bedroom through a window?" "Well it's a long story, and I don't think you're very interested in it, it seems that you're already very, very busy so, I'm going!" And with that, the elf ran out the bedroom door and down a flight of stairs.
Getting to the bottom of the stairs, the elf looked around him and saw his dad and his brother Tubbo outside fishing. Preferring to be scolded by his father than by Will, Tommy stepped outside. "Tommy!", said the young ram happily, the cool ocean breeze ruffling his hair. “Hello Tubbo, hello Dadza”, the boy greeted the pair. "Tommy, where did you go, you had me worried," said Phil, an elf and Tommy’s father. "I went to practice sword fighting with Techno", Tommy said avoiding his father’s gaze who had already left his fishing rod and was walking towards him. "And you didn't think to tell me?" asked Phil. "Well, it was very early and I didn't want to bother you - it was just for a little bit and you know that Techno doesn’t mind", Tommy tried to convince his father but he knew that he was going to leave with at least a scolding. “Well you already know that we need you here, you can't just leave like this. I know you like to go practice with Technoblade but even if he doesn’t want to tell you, he’s busy being a bounty hunter. " Philza replied to Tommy. "Yes dad," said the elf. "Awww come here mate", and with that Phil hugged Tommy, stroking his blond hair that was unkempt over his big elf ears. Tubbo just watched everything that happened until he excitedly asked, "Well, now that Tommy’s here, can I tell him what you said?" "Yes, you can tell him, but first let's go into the house", so with fishing rods and buckets of fish in hand, they all walked toward the house.
"Well, tell me, what is this great secret?" Tommy asked Tubbo while their dad put things away in the kitchen. Tommy was sitting with his legs dangling across the arm of the chair while Tubbo was to excited to stay still, pacing quickly across the room. The young ram was shorter than the elf, though he was a year older than Tommy, 17. Tubbo was practically exploding with excitement, his curly chocolate-colored hair and furry ram ears sticking out of his head. His hair bounced with every step. His ivory-colored horns, which had not yet fully grown, gleamed in the sunlight that peaked through the windows. "Ok ok so dad was telling me about a treasure in the forest and that the treasure has magical powers!" the ram happily looked at the elf, waiting for an answer. "And? It's probably just a silly legend, it's nothing to be excited about”, said the Tommy who was now bored and laying upside down on the chair. "But it's not only that, Tommy if we found the treasure Papa said that we could go out on more adventures, and that you could practice more with The Blade!" the ram was practically bouncing at this point. That last part is what excited the young elf the most, he always sneaked out to practice with Techno because even though he was busy being bounty hunter, he always made time for Tommy and the elf wanted more than anything to be a bounty hunter. "Well where is this treasure?" Tommy asked, trying not to sound too excited- and failing. "Yes! I knew you'd like it!” Thumping his hooves excitedly, the short ram ran to grab something from the second floor.
While he waited for his brother to return, Tommy stood up to lay down on one of the sofas by the fire in the living room. Noticing that it had already gotten dark and that after five minutes Tubbo had not returned, he got up to look for him. He walked up the stairs and hearing voices coming from his brother Willbur's room, he opened the door. Entering he saw that Tubbo and Will were sitting together on a bed, reading a book. The two heard the elf enter and Tubbo signaled that Tommy had entered. The elf sat next to the ram, not even wanting to make eye contact with Will, remembering what had happened earlier. "Look Tommy, this book talks about the treasure, it says that it is in a temple in the forest, and look, it even gives a map to get there", the excited child pointed to a map in the book. Tommy recognized it having seen something similar on one of the parchments techno carried with him. "And what, we just go and grab the treasure and that's it? That's not so exciting”, Tommy noted. "It’s not only that Tommy, it's going to be an adventure", Tubbo really emphasized the word adventure. "But we don't even know what the treasure is," Thomas said as he grabbed the book and started flipping through the pages. "Well if it doesn't say, then your’e going to have to wait until you find the treasure to see what it is," Willbur said after being silent throughout the brothers back-and-forth conversation.
Since it was very dark by now, Phil went into Will's room and told the kids to go to sleep, adding that, "In the morning you can pack things to take with you, but now you both have to go to sleep." And with that Tommy and Tubbo left Willbur’s room, making their way to their own bedroom across the hall. The two boys shared a bedroom, since they didn't have a particularly big house and Will wouldn’t even think about leaving them unsupervised in his room. So with the moonlight streaming through their window, the two of them said good night. "Good night Tommy" "G’night Tubbo"
"Come on, wake up!" "Nnghhh, let me rest" "But you said you wanted to come" "No" "Come on, Phil said we had to start packing early." "Ok ok I'm awake", the tired elf finally got up from his bed. It did’nt help that the room was now filled with light, and Tubbo was staring at him, as if he was going to go back to sleep. "At last, I was going to just leave you and go alone," replied the boy with brown hair. "Get ready and come downstairs," said the ram as he left the room. It took Tommy a moment to remember the events of yesterday. Rubbing the sleep out of his eyes, he woke up a little more and buttoned up his white blouse and red vest. He folded his brown pants down to his knees so he could have more ‘flexibility’ and pulled on his brown boots. Once ready, he left the room and headed down the stairs.
"So we're going to need this, oh and that, hmm but if we bring this then we can't- Oh Tommy come over here I just finished packing, there are just a few things missing but since you're here you can pass them to me”, finally done blabbering, the short boy pointed to a jar just out of reach. The elf easily grabbed it and handed it to him, noticing that Tubbo had already packed two backpacks full to the brim. "Do we really have to bring all that?", asked Tommy. "Why, do you think it's a lot? Hmmm maybe it is a lot ”, and with that Tubbo took a few things out of the two backpacks and placed them in two much smaller bags. "Ok that should be it, I'm not forgetting anything am I?" Tubbo asked. "If you forgot something, we’ll know when we need it, shouldn't we be leaving?" the tall elf commented. "Shouldn't you both be on your way now?" The two brothers turned to see Willbur coming down the stairs. Will was wearing a large dark brown trench coat, he also had a leather bag full of books. "To work, big man," Tommy asked sarcastically. "Yes Tommy, and if you don’t leave now I'm going to take you with me so you can do at least one productive thing." and with that Willbur stepped out of the front door, but not before patting both of their heads. "Good luck on your adventure," and with that, Will was gone.
"So that's it, can we go now?" Tommy grabbed one of the bags, he was already excited to get out and go on a real adventure. "Yes we can go now, I have the map here- oh, and dad said to stop by his stall before we go." So the two boys slung their packs across their shoulders. Before leaving the door Tommy grabbed his sword, and put it in the sheath that he carried on his back. With that, he closed the door of the house and followed Tubbo to their Dad’s stall.
It wasn't a big or fancy stall, but there were always people shopping or just chatting with the friendly elf. Phil was a fisherman and he sold what he caught. He was always nice to everyone, and that's why people always liked him and wanted to buy from him. "So what I did next was- Oh kids come over here." Phil stopped talking to a customer so he could get out of his booth. "So are you two leaving?" asked Phil. "Yes, we already brought everything and Tubbs said to come see you." “Oh yes I remember telling him, well I just wanted to tell you to take care of yourself and not get in trouble. I know that this is very exciting for you Tommy but you can't just stab things because you want to. I hope you both come back well, and that you don't get into trouble. " He said as he hugged the two boys. "Yes dad, now let go of me, you stink" said the elf after getting out of the hands of his dad. "Ya dad, we promise not to get in any trouble" said the ram as he smiled. "I don't promise anything- OW OW OK OK, I PROMISE, I PROMISE" yelled the elf after his dad pulled his ear. "Well then if that's all you can go, have fun", smiling the elf said goodbye to his two boys and returned to his job.
"I think we're going to have a lot of fun, what do you think, Tommy?" the ram turned his head to see his brother as they walked through the streets of town. "Yes yes, but what I want to do is find the treasure and stab someone" replied the elf. "I doubt we have to do that but I imagine you brought your sword." "Always," the elf slapped the sword on his sword. "Well this should be interesting," Tubbo smiled as the two of them walked out of town. With the sun shining down on everything Tommy stood up on a rock, his white blouse swaying slightly in the ocean breeze. He closed his eyes and smelled the salty water. Feeling the air moving his hair. The sun touching his pale skin and- “TOMMY GET OFF OF THERE, WHAT ARE YOU DOING ON TOP OF A ROCK" The elf snapped out of his fantasy and got off the rock, and the two of them continued on their way.
With rays of sun falling through the leaves of the forest, Tubbo holding a map and Tommy at his side, the two began their adventure in search of a mysterious treasure.
