Work Text:
The day was like any other at the Edgeworth Law Office; Greg and Ray sat around watching reruns on tv, waiting for a client to appear. Ray wasn't sure that one would appear; at 7 am on a Monday, but if Greg thought one might, then; so be it. "I'm sure that one will appear very soon, Ray."
They held out until around noon. That was when they started to give up hope. Ray started to pack up his things.
Then, a tall, broad man appeared to be in his late twenties or early thirties. An actual client? Ray sat back down. He wanted to hear what the case was. The man walked over and sat in the chair opposite the two. "My name is Weht Hendamp." Hendamp? That name sounded familiar to Ray, but he couldn't place where he heard it. "I've been accused of a horrible, horrible crime. It is horrid that I can not even repeat it."
Greg smiled. "Don't worry, Mr. Hendamp, we'll do our best to prove that you're not guilty." Ray nodded as he finished.
Gullible fools.
Greg had stayed late at the office that night. The name Hendamp sounded familiar to him. He had been looking through records but couldn't find a single one about him. Maybe ther-
What was that noise?
Greg quietly put the papers he was holding down and followed the noise. That voice sounded familiar. He got close enough to listen and see but not close enough to be seen. It was Ray and Mr. Hendamp. What were they doing here? It was past work hours.
Hendamp moved closer to Ray. "You and I both know you're not happy here. If you leave..."
Ray stopped him there. "That's not true. I am happy here with my fiancee. Nothing will change how we feel about each other. Not even a well-to-do business owner." There was where he heard the name before. Weht Hendamp was an owner of a bakery nearby.
Hendamp smirked. "Maybe this would change your mind?" He handed the young boy a pile of money. Ray went bug eyes and examined it, flipping through a good chunk of it. The man was giving him real cash? "Come on, look at how much better I can treat you."
Greg wasn't going to allow that. A little flirting was okay, but there was no way in hell that he would allow that. He stepped into view. "Excuse me, Hendamp, we're not taking on your case. I want you out, now." The man growled but complied.
Ray clung to Greg for dear life. "I'm sorry, Gre-"
Greg held his face. "Ray, angel, there's nothing for you to be sorry over. You and I both knew that you weren't going to leave. You would pretend to and then beat him up by kicking him in the balls, then laugh at him."
Ray gasped. "How did you know?"
Greg laughed. "You are a very predictable man." Ray blushed. Yeah, he was a very predictable person, but Greg liked that, though.
