James held the railing as he went up Royal Prep's front stairs. Today was the day. They were going to share the poems they wrote for their new poetry class. He had a vague idea of what the others had written about, but he doubted they would have guessed what he wrote.
"James!" He turned around to see Sofia running towards him. "I hope you remembered your poem for today."
He held his up. "Sure did, Sof."
She smirked. "Let me guess it's about fencing or the flying derby." He shook his head. "Really? Hm, I guess it'll be a surprise until class."
He scratched his neck. "Yeah, it'll be a surprise." Sofia ran ahead of him, leaving him by himself, standing on the stairs. He shook his head. If he stood there for much longer, he would be late. "Wait up, Sof!" He ran after her.
-----------
James stood in the hallway, avoiding anyone. He knew a romantic poem, much less a confession of love, would never be what someone guessed he would write.
Of course, the universe didn't agree with what he wanted. Hugo, the mysterious person in his poem, had to want to talk. "Hi, Hugo, is there something you need?"
Hugo crossed his arms. "Well, I realized that we both had written about a mysterious crush, so I thought we could have a picnic and talk about them." Hugo liked to have picnics and gossip? Huh, James had no clue.
He smiled at Hugo. "Sure, I'd love to."
Hugo blushed and walked off. "Cool, meet me at my castle later."
"Okay, Hugo." James sighed. Was he reading the room wrong, or did Hugo have feelings for him?
--------------
Hugo handed James a teacup. "So, which girl was your poem about?"
James looked away a bit. "Well, it wasn't about a girl. It was actually about a boy."
Hugo smiled. "Mine was too"
James laughed. "Which one? Khalid, Zander, Dez?"
Hugo put his teacup down. "No, it was about... you."
James set the still full teacup he held onto the blanket. "Mine was about you too."
Hugo laughed. "Seriously? You mean to tell me this whole time, we both have had feelings for each other?"
James smiled. "Apparently, but I think it's kinda funny."
Hugo blushed. "Jaaames." He hugged James. "I love you."
James laughed. "I love you too."
