Ekko was ten when he realized he had a crush on Powder.
He was fifteen when he realized she felt the same way about him but it wasn't until he ruined their first kiss that he found that out. He and Powder had been observing the setting sun from the highest rooftop in Zaun, when she had leaned in, lips puckered. He had stared in silent shock trying to process this for so long that Powder had leaned away.
“Sorry, I must have misread- I thought that you liked me-” she started to say, cheeks burning red with shame, and he couldn't find the words to fix this. So he fumbled for his watch, refusing to let this be their future.
Time rewound a few seconds and Powder was leaning back in. This time he leaned forward to kiss her and missed her lips entirely because he had closed his eyes. It wasn't until he heard her giggle that he opened his eyes and realized he was kissing her chin. Mortified, he rewound time back again, determined to keep his eyes open this time.
Except when he went in for the kiss, he bumped his nose into hers. They both recoiled in pain, blinking back tears. Damn it, why couldn't he get this first kiss right?
“Fourth times the charm,” he said to himself, rewinding time once more.
This time he put a hand on Powder's cheek, enjoying the warmth there, before he met her lips. The kiss was short and sweet. Almost too short. He would have loved to rewind time over and over again, if only to kiss her like this again.
But, as he pulled back, a gentle smile on his lips, he knew that now that they had affirmed their feelings for each other, he would have so many more kisses to look forward to. Powder looked at him approvingly, and bit her bottom lip before dropping her gaze to his lips.
This time he didn't miss the cue and kissed her again.
A kiss that was much, much longer, thankfully.
