The first sign to Shota Aizawa that his son was dating the 1A problem child was during the Cultural festival. Shouta and Hizashi were heading to the Haunted House to pick up Hitoshi. If he recalled correctly, Hitoshi’s job was to swing from the ceiling, scaring the people below. But when they got there, it seemed like nearly everyone had packed up and gone home.
No Hitoshi in sight.
His husband spoke up. “I can’t see him. Maybe he went to check out some of the stands at the last minute, I’ll call him.” Hizashi turned away for a minute, and a cell phone tone rang through the air. Hizashi let it ring fully, no response. “Should we go into the haunted house, maybe he’s cleaning up and doesn’t have his phone on him.”
“Yeah, let’s do it.” Both adults walked towards the empty haunted house awkwardly, Hitoshi promised he would be sitting on the steps waiting for them. Shouta wasn’t exactly worried about Hitoshi’s safety, UA had taken a lot of precaution for the festival. He suspected he would have to scold Hitoshi for staying up late, and falling asleep in the haunted house.
Both men glanced around carefully as they walked. The decorations had been somewhat taken down, but many had been left to be cleaned up another time. But there was no Hitoshi anywhere to be seen. As they exited the haunted house Hizashi called Hitoshi another time, before sending another text. Both of which had gotten no responses.
Shouta strained his ears, hearing two familiar voices. “Zashi? Do you hear that?” Shouta asked, looking around. “No Shouta, I’m nearly deaf, remember?” Hizashi said, sending his husband a glare. “Shh, over here.” He said, gesturing for Hizashi to follow him as he crept around the back wall of the haunted house.
“I can’t believe they let you perform like this! Then you didn’t even check in with Recovery Girl, before walking around the rest of the festival ”
“Toshi, it’s fine. The injuries look a lot worse than they really are.”
“No. You don’t get an opinion, Mr. Villain Catnip.”
Shouta let out a loud cough as he turned the corner. Both boys looked up at them with wide eyes. Hitoshi still had remnants of his fake gore makeup on, and was currently bandaging Izuku’s leg.
With the sunset behind them, Izuku had two bandaids on his face. He also had bandages wrapped around his arm, his leg splayed over Hitoshi’s lap while the other boy bandaged it. They both looked at them stunned, until Hitoshi finally spoke up.
“Zuku ran into a villain this morning coming back from the grocery store. And he didn’t get it treated, so when he came to the haunted house at the end of the day, I couldn’t just let him walk out.”
“So you treated his injuries, but forgot to text us about your location.” Shouta said, sternly. He had heard about Midoriya’s assisting in the arrest of Gentle Criminal this morning, but he didn’t think the boy would have any injuries. “Besides, if he had any serious injuries he should be relying on Recovery Girl.” Very quickly Midoriya stood up. “I’m sorry. It was nothing but a few bumps and scrapes, but Toshi insisted that I get medical assistance, and they had a first-aid on stand by and well.” Midoriya trailed off, glancing down at Hitoshi, who was still sitting down on the ground. Hitoshi quickly stood up.
“I’m sorry, I forgot about sending a text, can we talk about this later.” Hitoshi said, sending them a look. Neither of the men wanted to embarrass their son, so they agreed. “Yep, c’mon little listener let’s go to that family dinner we talked about." Hitoshi gave them both a wide grin and a nod, before awkwardly saying goodbye to Midoriya. “Finish that bandage and remember to clean it.” He whispered, before waving goodbye. Midoriya waved back, a wide grin spread across his face as he waved goodbye.
As they walked back to the car, Zashi decided to break the silence with a little conversation. “So you two seem pretty close, not only on a first name basis but nicknames.” Hitoshi shrugged. “We really aren’t that close, we were just talking while I bandaged his scrapes.” Hitoshi said, not to make eye contact.
“Yep, that sounds like Problem child. Always getting injured.”

The second time is in the middle of family dinner. The Aizawa-Yamada family always enjoyed family dinners. Just as Zashi was recalling a work story from his radio station, a ring tone interrupted him. Hitoshi pulled his phone out of his pocket.
“Sorry I need to take this.” Hitoshi said, before scurrying off into his room. Shouta raised an eyebrow at his husband. “He never lets anyone interrupt our family dinners.” They were both thinking the same thing.
Both men snuck down the hallway, before putting their ears against Hitoshi’s door. It was hard to hear anything for Hizashi, but Shouta could hear what Hitoshi was saying.
“That’s actually kind of adorable, you know that. I miss you too” There was a short pause, as Hitoshi let the other person speak. “You know what, after I finish dinner I’ll come over and we can binge all the movies you want, how does that sound?”
There was a short pause. “Okay, don’t miss me too much.” There was a loud squawk from the other line. “Okay, love you. Bye,” Hitoshi teased. Shouta gestured for his husband to move back into the dining room. Shortly after both men sat down, acting like they hadn’t heard the conversation, Hitoshi came in.
“Who was that?” Hizashi, asked calmly. “Just a friend, oh can I go out tonight?” Hitoshi said, looking at both of them expectantly. “Where are you going?” Shouta asked. “Just to binge movies at this one friend’s house, I promise I’ll be back before midnight.” Hitoshi said, nearly pouting.
“Which friend is this?” Shouta asked, not bringing up how Hitoshi had few friends due to the nature of his quirk. “Oh, just this person I met at the cultural festival.” Both men sighed, realizing they weren’t gaining anymore information. “Fine, you can go after dinner.” Shouta, sighed.
“Okay, I’m full.” Hitoshi said loudly, he walked into the kitchen scraping nearly the whole plate into the trash. He put the dirty dish in the sink, before heading for the dinner. “Wow, gonna leave before even saying goodbye.” Zashi said. “Oh right. Bye Dad, bye Pops.” Hitoshi said, before opening the door, waving as he stepped out. After the door closed, they could see Hitoshi break into a sprint, through the windows. Both men sighed.
Hisohi didn’t get back until five in the morning, swearing he just fell asleep watching movies at an unnamed friend’s house.

The third time was actually part of a morning ritual both parents had noticed, but up until that point never mentioned. “Hey Hitoshi, I thought you hated lollipops. But always slip some into your bag.” Hitoshi glanced up at Zashi, wide eyed.
“They just grew on me, you know?” Hitishi said, convincingly. Shouta watches his son squirm under their gaze, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly. “You know, if you are seeing anyone, we’re okay with that.” Hizashi said, reassuringly. “Depends on who it is.” Shouta cut in, only to get an elbow to the gut by his dear husband.
“Yeah, yeah alright. Don’t worry I’m not seeing anyone. I just changed my mind on lollipops. What’s wrong with that? Shouldn’t I keep an open mind?” Hitoshi said, giving both his parents a sly grin. “Okay, I’ve just never seen you eat them in person. We could get more, since you like them so much!” Just as the words came out of Hizashi’s mouth, Hitoshi’s face lit up. “Really? More lollipops would be awesome.”
“More lollipops then.” Shouta said, with a small grin.
Shouta really had thought his son just changed his mind on lollipops, until later that day. As all the 1A students he noticed a small crinkling sound. He looked up, across the classroom Midroiya was opening a lollipop.
“Hey kid, what are you doing?” Midoirya looked up abruptly. “Oh, I was just about to eat a lollipop, it's my favorite.” He said, with a wide grin. It took every ounce of self-restraint in Shouta’s body not to sigh.
“Okay, have a good day, Problem child.”

It was a perfectly normal night, Hitoshi was in bed and Shouta and Zashi were about to follow behind him. After finishing up the movie they were watching, both men began their nightly routine. Turning off the lights in the house, brushing their teeth, they both put their hair up, they were almost ready to go to sleep.
Finally they went to wish Hitoshi a good night. They were surprised to find his room with the lights off. Hitoshi usually was always watching some youtube videos before attempting to go to sleep. But his room was pitch dark.
Shouta squinted his eyes. Hitoshi’s silhouette looked larger than it normally should’ve and it was oddly shaped. Then he caught a glance of green. Quickly Shouta flicked the light on, his husband gasped.
Hitoshi had been sleeping soundly while Midoriya slept on his chest, they were both curled up in a blanket. But they both woke in alarm, as the light turned on. Midoriya sat up, scrambling away from where he had been lying on Hitoshi.
While Hitoshi stared at both of them, caught between shock and tiredness. Midoriya gaped at both of them, his face was deep deep red. It was then that both men noticed the window slightly open, Hitoshi had snuck him through the window. Hitoshi was in nothing but a thin tank top and sweatpants, Izuku was wearing nothing but his own underwear and Hitoshi’s sweatshirt.
They both knew there was no getting around this.
“Would one of you like to explain?” Midoriya started stuttering out what sounded like an apology, before Hitoshi interrupted him. “I know you both probably are really mad at me, for having a secret boyfriend. But I just didn’t know how you guys were gonna react, and he hasn’t come out to his mom yet so…” Shouta let out a sigh.
“We’re also mad at you for sneaking your boyfriend into the house, Midoriya, does your mother know you’re here?” By the freckled boy’s expression he could tell the answer was no. “Though I think I also speak for Shouta when we say, we are sorry that you didn’t feel comfortable telling us.” Hizashi said.
“Yes, we never meant to insinuate you can’t date anyone. We just want to be informed. And meet them as your partner in a mature and proper way. Not with them half naked in your bed.” Midoriya's mouth fell open, his face instantly turning even more red. He stood up, rushing about the room, probably looking for his pants.
“I think you left them under the bed.” Hitoshi said, not breaking eye contact from his dads. Midoirya squeaked out a small ‘thank you,’ before slipping his jeans on. “Midoriya I think the best course of action is for you to go home for the night.” Hizashi said.
He was really tired, and he had not been expecting this. Plus he was hurt and disappointed in himself that their son had felt the need to hide his relationship. “And Midoriya, don’t worry about your mother, we won’t be telling her. We can just keep this between the four of us.” Midoriya’s eyes went as wide as saucers, before bowing profusely.
Strings of ‘thank you’s,’ and ‘I’m so grateful,’ left the boy’s mouth, and he desperately put on bright red shoes. Hitoshi still sat on his bed in total shock, before standing up helping his boyfriend collect his things.
All four men awkwardly made their way to the front door. “Okay Little Listener, got everything you came with.” Midoriya let out a small chuckle. “Everything but my dignity.” All four men laughed at that. “Well, next time we see you just wear actual pants.” Hizashi said.
“Will do.” Izuku said, shuffling awkward face covered in blush. “Have a good night, Toshi.” Izuku said, leaning over giving him a quick peck before pulling away. Shouta coughed, reminding him that there were still two very tired parents in the room. “Oh right, sorry.” Izuku said, before turning around on his way.
“Have a good night Zuku.” Hitoshi said, before walking out giving his boyfriend a kiss on the lips. Izuku chuckled awkwardly afterward, glancing back at Hizashi and Shouta. “Okay, PDA over. Get back here Hitoshi.”
Hitoshi let out a loud groan, before walking back inside. Izuku gave a small wave before the door closed. “So, you are so grounded.” HItoshi groaned. “Was the humiliation not enough for you?” He asked.
“Izuku looked a lot more humiliated than you were, or should we tell the whole class you give lollipops to Izuku everyday.” Hitoshi’s eyes went wide, “I have a reputation, you can’t just go saying stuff like that. How do you know about that anyway?” Shouta shrugged, “Caught him eating a lollipop one time, it wasn't hard to connect the dots.” Hitoshi groaned, once again.
“This isn’t fair, are you implying you never snuck each other in, when you were in highschool.” Hitoshi said, closing the door. “No, we both were very clear with our parents, and we never snuck each other in through windows, or cuddled half naked.” There was a short pause.
"So how long has this been going on?” Zashi said, smiling wide.
“We started talking after the Sports festival, but didn't have an official date until a month after that. So about five months.” Hitoshi said, rubbing the back of his neck. Zashi gave an even wider smile. “Okay, so you’re grounded for five months.”
“What no, that’s not fair. You tricked me! Dad’s supposed to be the mean parent!” Shouta went up to ruffle their son's hair. “It is very fair Hitoshi, but we are not totally heartless. We will allow a weekly date night, but you must be home by ten o’ clock sharp each night."
“Yes! I can work with that. Anyways, now I can rant to you both about my amazing boyfriend.” Hitoshi said with a sly grin. “Eww, no. I don’t want any teenage hormones or PDA, got it.” Shouta said, tapping his son’s forehead aggressively.
“Fine, anyway, I'm gonna go call my boyfriend. Talk to him while he rides the subway home, then wish him good night. Like a good boyfriend!” Hitoshi shouted, heading down the hall.
“You keep up this teenage love shit, it’ll be ten months, no weekly date nights”
“No fair!”
