Aconite & Hyacinths

Summary:

Brian Stells is found in Saint Juana's Forest around two am by an unsuspecting group of BSI employees a week after his attack.

Hes weak, but hes breathing.

He'll live, but not without issue.

Notes:

Alright so this first chapter is pretty light, but just an ahead warning I am going to dive a bit into the extent of Brian's injuries in the coming chapters.

This is going to be mostly a fic about him working with them and healing, after all, and he has quite a few issues. So- just be careful.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: 8 AM

Chapter Text

A knock on his door startled Felix out of whatever spiral he'd started to fall into the last hour and a half. He didn't often get visitors, and when he did, it always tended to be Chris. However it was very early in the morning, almost eight exactly, and Chris usually only came by in the late hours of the night to discuss BSI business and where the company may be headed.

So who was this? Couldn't be the ghosts, ghosts had a funny way of letting themselves in to ruin his life.

Felix groaned. It was too early for this.

He opened the door just a crack to peek, only to immediately slam it shut upon being greeted with none other than Detective Derek Collins himself.

Great! Perfect! Just what he needed at eight in the morning! The one detective who frequently loved to bother him about BSI, about the missing cases. And while he was hungover too!

This day just continued to get better and better. Swallowing his guilt and taking a breath, Felix opened the door again, slower this time.

"Detective, to what do I owe the pleasure?" He asks, hands nervously pulling at the sleeves of his shirt.

"There was a body found."

Shit.

"Early this morning around two AM a mister Brian Stells was found in Saint Juana's Forest just a few feet away from the K-9 Facility."

Brian Stells? A familiar name, though Felix couldn't quite place why. His memory always loved to betray him.

"He was wearing a BSI assigned uniform, and Chris says he'd been hired just a week prior to the incident. I hope you don't mind if I come in to ask a few questions."

"Y-yes of course! Though I have to apologize, detective, I don't think I'm familiar with that name."

Derek frowned, "Pardon?"

"I don't recognize the name…?"

"Cut the shit, Kranken. What do you mean you don't recognize the name? He was an employee for your business!"

"I mean I've never heard it before! I-I just- a lot of names come and go, but we're not hiring right now, and Chris never mentioned hiring anyone new or that they were being sent over to K-9. I specifically requested that employees not be sent there, given that someone went missing at the place four years ago."

"Chris claimed you gave the okay to picking up the Relocate Project again, said you two had been planning it for months."

Felix rubbed his eyes, sighing. He doesn't remember ever talking about the Relocate Project, doesn't remember telling Chris to send people there again after the last incident. Was this his memory just messing with him again? It couldn't be, had to have been a misunderstanding or something, right?

"Kranken, there's a 23 year old boy in the hospital right now, and I hate to be that person, but as of now all signs point to K-9 being the reason for it."

"But that can't be right! I just- I don't remember-"

"Because you were drinking again?"

"What? No!"

Maybe.

"Listen, until I can get a clear answer to this mess, I'm going to be keeping an eye on BSI for the next few months. If anything turns up and I find one of you two did cause this…"

"I understand, detective."

"I refuse to believe a bear could do something like... that. When you get the chance, stop by the station so we can talk further with Chris there. Maybe the two of you together can give me some cohesive information."

Felix nodded, watching the detective leave without so much as a goodbye. He shut the door carefully, and slid to the floor.

This person, Brian Stells? Was found outside of K-9, and if the animal that got him was who Felix thought it was….

It was too early to think about this.

Too early to think about past regrets.

Too early to think about death.

Felix needed a drink.
