Work Text:
You’ve got to be kidding me.
Abracadabra.
My word fucking abracadabra.
Out of all the words, the word that activates my power is Abra -fucking- cadabra. My brother’s words are expelliarmus and expecto patronum. And I got abracadabra. And a tiny spider as a familiar. His name is Shroud and I love him, but a fucking spider! Wilbur’s familiar is a wolf dog called L’Chien. Techno’s is white fox called Blitz. And I get a fucking spider! At least my best friend can’t make fun of me, and neither can my dad. Old man doesn't have a power.
Sucker.
L’Chien means a dog in french but L’Chien isn’t even grammatically correct, you only use “L’ ” when the first letter is a vowel or “H”. It should be Le Chien. I’ve been taking french lessons
Anyway, my name is Big Man Tomathy (Tommy) Innit Danger Kraken Minecraft, and if you're wondering, the reason I figured out my familiar and my power at the same time, is because my power is creating matter from thin air. Aka I created Shroud. Inside a jar. By saying abracadabra. My older twin brother’s share the same power, which is telekinesis by the way. It’s annoying as shit.
My other best friend, don't tell him I said that or I will rip your throat out, Ranboo, has the power of invisibility. His word is Bibbity Bobbity Boo (sucker). After I heroically saved Tubbo from the evil dream, and got punched in the face but that's not important, Tubbo introduced me to him. Dream is so evil. He’s all like haha George is so cute, its so fucking annoying.
I showed my power to Ranboo by creating an allium, but I fucking fell over. My power takes my energy, and I had already used it so I no longer had the energy to stand. It was embarrassing as shit. Ranboob (that's his name now) laughed at me while Tubbo helped me up, he liked the flower though. Then Tubbo complained about being the only non-witch in the group for like an hour. That was very annoying.
Tubbo lives on the farm next door, but Ranboo lives in the closest town, Snowchester. His dad is an accountant or some shit like that. Anyway, it means we get permission to go to Snowchester all the time now! It's great. We have sleepovers and shopping sprees and really cool things like that! Tonight we are going to his house so we can watch moana, and Harry Potter. Moana was my idea. Bee (Tubbo) and Boo (Ranboob) were not so happy about moana. That’s why we are also watching Harry potter. Stupid Harry Potter.
Tubbo is a witch.
His word is avada kedavra.
This is the best thing that has ever happened. We were watching Harry Potter and Tubbo sprung up and yelled avada kedavra. Ranboo’s familiar, a small pink dog called Micheal, barked at Tubbo.
“That dog just spoke!” Tubbo yelled, very, very loudly.
That sent Ranboob and I into fits of laughter. Tubbo was dead serious and very freaked out, rightfully so. Which made Ranboo and I laugh more. Eventually we calmed down, and explained to Tubbo what he had just experienced.
In our world about 75% of people are what society calls “witches'' regular people with powers. Then of course there's heroes and villains, but they hang out in L’manberg. The big city. To activate that power, there is a particular word that associates to that person. Most likely a word that their brain related to magic when they were a child (younger than 10). That's why my word is abracadabra. Most witches have a familiar, a magical pet set to keep you out of danger. Each power has a downside, the most common one is energy.
After some experimenting, we found Tubbo’s downside and his familiar. His downside is, it's harder to speak the more he uses his power. His familiar is a bee he named Spins. Because it kept spinning in a circle. We also learnt what Shroud can do, ya know his magic ability thing, he can change his size from the size of a regular spider to a giant one, not giant as in hand giant, giant as in minecraft giant!
I got home that evening to my brothers completely rattled and my father sitting at the bench looking traumatized.
“What's wrong? Who did Techno beat up this time?” I asked genuinely concerned.
Techno looked at me unamused, and I shrugged. Wilbur looked startled at the sight of me.
“Toms, I thought you were in Snowchester.” He said with a hint of relief and a tremble in his voice.
“I was, but that got boring. Bee and Boo wanted to watch a documentary.”
I noticed a suitcase next to my brothers. My suitcase.
“What’s going on?” I questioned.
Techno reminded me of a man, a villain, who uses the alias Quackity. He wanted to destroy his hometown to “tie up loose ends.” That hometown was Snowchester. I freaked out. Ranboo and Tubbo were in serious danger.
“Hey don’t worry mate,” Phil calmed me, “You know your brothers are in the hero training program. Some heroes are also coming to help protect the town. But I want you kids to leave Snowchester and go to the coast.”
“What about you, Dadza? You're not a witch.”
“No, I’m not, but legally I have to stay with your brothers during an emergency.”
My eyes filled with tears. This wasn’t fair! I couldn’t just leave my family. What if they failed, what if someone got hurt, what if someone…
No. Techno and Wilbur can protect Dadza and each other. Nothing bad will happen.
Techno gave me my suitcase and told me to get Bee and Boo. Phil said he would explain what is happening to their parents. All humans (people who are non-witches) except parents of people in the hero program, and minors are being evacuated from the town. That means, Bee and Boo's parents also have to stay. Most of the minors stay in evacuation hubs. Except Tubbo has an aunt in L’manberg, so the three of us will stay there.
I hugged my brothers and dad with tears streaming down our faces. Even Techno shed a tear. Then I sprinted to the bus stop and rode it all the way to Snowchester. Tubbo was sleeping over at Ranboo’s that night so he already had the basics.
We helped Ranboo pack for him and Micheal, because unlike Shroud (who can hunt for himself) and Spins (who can just feed off flowers) Micheal relied on Ranboo for food. We were out of that house almost instantly. Ranboo had heard the alert and had already said his goodbyes. Tubbo was distraught, as he was not able to say goodbye to his father.
To his only close family left alive.
Because Quackity was a high level threat, all hero training people and adult witches in the area are needed. It also meant our families were at higher risk of danger.
My brother and Dad were the only family I’d ever known, my mother died during my birth. My extended family on my dad’s side didn't like witches, and the family on my mum’s side isn’t known to anyone.
At Least if Tubbo’s father dies he can stay with his aunt Puffy, If Ranboo’s father dies his older sister who lives on the coast can look after him. But I have no one.
If anything happens to them, I won’t stop fighting against Quackity until he’s dead, I’m dead, or he’s in custody.
This I swear.
The next three hours were a whirl. I barely remember anything from when we got on the bus to L’manberg. The plan was to stay with Tubbo’s aunt, Puffy, and her fiance, Niki, for the night. Then in the morning we will go to the coast to stay with Ranboo’s sister. When we reached the outskirts of L’manberg, I jolted awake.
Tubbo still wasn’t speaking and Ranboo was rambling nervously about nothing and everything at the same time, and to no one and everyone at the same time. He was flickering in and out of visibility, like he often does when he’s nervous. His power also uses energy, so using the last of mine, I made him a pillow and blanket. He fell asleep almost immediately, and immediately afterwards I passed out.
We weren’t alone on the bus, dream, George (or georeg), and Sapnap were sitting at the other end of the bus. They reached their stop before us. They were looking about as rattled as Tubbo is, I don’t know much about their families, but I know that Dream has a younger sister. His sister wasn’t with him. Something must have happened.
Tubbo suddenly screamed.
He was looking at his phone and he suddenly looked at where Dream Had been sitting, his eyes were filled with tears. I tore his phone out his hands, and was shocked to my core about what was on his screen.
“FIRST DEATH RECORDED ONLY 14 YEARS OLD”
Under that was
“Drista Wastaken’s life was stolen during an attack in the small town of Snowchester. Villain, Quackity is thought to be the perpetrator.”
I dropped the phone. Tears streamed down my face.
Drista was Dream’s sister.
She was so young.
Much younger than myself.
And I know that all they have is each other. Dream must know. He just has to.
We Reached Tubbos aunt not long after that, with Tubbo and I still broken to tears, we shook Ranboo awake and knocked at the door. Tubbos Aunt embraced us one by one, we were pretty close, because Tubbo and I have been friends since we were children. Ok, since we were babies. Everyone was extremely shaken, and just wanted to go to bed.
When we woke up NikI and Puffy had cooked us breakfast, but we weren't processing anything. I wasn’t hungry. I didn’t feel like eating. None of us did. Puffy gave us some money, and told us to go shopping to take our minds off of everything.
We walked down the streets of L’manberg. There were screens all over the building, similar to Tokyo. L’manberg is much smaller though. And It’s in northern Europe, Japan is in North East Asia. But it gave me those vibes.
One of the screens flickered to the news, 5 of hero trainees are down, two casualties and the hero’s are still in action but are expected to fall back soon.
“We have to get there and help!” I remarked
I couldn't just sit by and let people die. These were people I've known my entire life. Tubbo looked nervous but agreed. Ranboo returned to normal state, as in not half invisible. I had their support. Good.
We have money, I can make anything we need.
“Wait!” A voice yelled out after us.
“We want to come too!” A second voice shouted.
Wait a second. I recognize those voices.
“Dream and George?!” Tubbo stammered
That’s the first time I've heard him speak since we got the news. He’s getting better.
“Hey, I’m here too!”
Sapnap.
Or as autocorrect on my phone likes to call him: subneopea.
“I’m so sorry about your sister!” Ranboo blurted out
I elbowed him. He shrugged like I did at Techno.
“Look, I don't want to talk about her, but we want to help you.” Dream Told us
“Why should we trust you? You gave us years of hell in school!”
“That wasn't us.”
Dream quickly explained everything. Quackity’s power is controlling a creature called a “Dreamon”. Dreamons are creatures that can attack, and control people's minds. Quackity wanted to create discourse in the town, and hoped that it would rip itself apart. The Dreamons had controlled Dream for years, as well as Sapnap and George.
That’s why they weren’t with Drista. They were on their way to the hero commission place to report it. Since they weren’t controlled anymore, and Quackity had no way of getting to them they were let go.
We checked their story against the news, and everything made sense. We agreed to work together and we got on the bus to Snowchester.
On the bus ride there we all exchanged our powers, words, and familiar’s I can’t be bothered writing it all out in full sentences so here's a list:
Tommy
Creates matter from thin air (energy)
Familiar - Shroud the spider (can grow and shrink)
abracadabra
Ranboo
Invisibility (energy)
Familiar - pink dog called michael
Bibbity bobbity boo
Tubbo
Can talk to animals (the more he speaks to them, the harder it is for him to speak normally, heals in about an hour after complete loss of voice)
Familiar - bee who can’t die, named spins
Avada kedavra
Dream
Shapeshifting (painful)
Familiar - spirit (a tiny horse)
Gandalf
Sapnap
Human (I think he’s obsessed with fire though)
George
Teleportation (dizzying)
Familiar - a fish called beckerson (georeg is in denial about beckerson being a familiar, he's just a fish)
santa claus
George's word is Santa Claus. That’s worse than Ranboob’s!
By the time we reached Snowchester, we had a plan. We knew Quackity wanted Dream. Dream was important to him somehow. So we knew Quackity would come after us. We just needed an area where we could fight Quackity. We know the layout of our school perfectly, so we agreed to lure Quackity there. We are also going to split into pairs.
Tubs and georeg
Sapnap (subneopea) and Ranboob
Dream (big man) and me (the bigger man)
We arrived at our school and started getting ready. I grabbed two cokes out of my satchel, chucked one to Ranboob, and chugged the other one. I created a sword and shield. To try and confuse Quackity Dream shapeshifted into the man. Tubbo told spins to get all of his friends and now he has an army of bees and a couple wasps. Sapnap complained about being the literal only human in a six person group.
Something like, “It was bad enough being the only human in a three person group. But six! Come on.”
He then got out a lighter and gasoline. George rolled his eyes. His power is only dizzying so he doesn't really have to prepare that much. Other than being prepared to throw up of course.
After we prepared we split up into our pairs and ran around the school. From the news we knew that Quackity was already in the area, but no hero’s were.
Dream is older than me by a couple of years. Him and I were quite close before the dreamon attack. I often missed dream, but now I have him back. The real Dreamback. Not stupid fucking dreamon dream. My dream. My brother.
Dream and I headed to the cafeteria, the plan was to send a signal using my power and use dream’s signature smile. Because of his power, he doesn't like showing his face when it's not shifted into someone. He has a few scares across it from shifting, and he hides them using a mask that has a smile on it.
We sent out the signal and almost immediately afterwards we saw a lot of black smoke gathering and forming into the shapes of monsters. Dreamons. A man with a large scar blinding his left eye, stepped out of the smoke.
Quackity.
“God, you're shorter than I thought you’d be!” I blurted out
Oops. I have a point though this guy is like 5’8. The news portrays him as like 6’6 or something.
The man narrowed his eyes towards me.
“There are others here. Find them.” he told the dreamons in a deep echoing voice, he looked back towards us then in a softer less echoey voice, “Now let us get to business.”
Quackity walked up to both of us. He gently touched the scar on Dream’s face that was portraying his own, causing Dream’s shift to falter and his face returned to normal. For the first time I saw the extent of his scars. They stretched over his face like it was being twisted, there were old ones and new ones, more specifically the ones that were bright pink, obviously from that shift just then.
“Ah the loose end, did you miss me?” Quackity asked Dream in a menacing tone.
“Not one bit, brother.” Dream retorted.
Brother? Quackity was Dream’s brother. Everything makes sense. Quackity came here to tie up loose ends, his family being the only loose ends he needed to tie up. Drista’s death made a lot more sense now. She hadn’t been anywhere near the hero’s or where you would think Quackity would strike, her death was just out of the blue. Quackity only had one more loose end to tie up. But I'm not going to let him.
Using my sword I hit Quackity’s hand, he seems to control the dreamons with his hands so I figured it would be a good place to start whacking with a sword. I tossed Dream my shield and continued trying to attack Quackity.
Using his free hand He created a tiny Dreamon which caused him to scream in pain.
Time slowed down.
I saw Dream get hit.
I didn’t think.
I sent a rope after Quackity and grabbed Dream. I felt the dreamon enter his chest.
I felt his breath.
I felt his heart.
And using the last of my energy, I created a soft spot to land.
I passed out.
I flickered back to consciousness to see Ranboo over me. I was still dizzy. But knew Ranboo was happy. I’m glad he was happy.
I woke up in the hospital. I knew what had happened. 4 of my closest friends were here. I knew what that meant.
I looked towards Tubbo. I softly asked about my family.
They're fine.
I muttered his name.
Sapnap shook his head.
A single tear ran down my cheek.
He was with his sister.
