Chapter Text
it was dark and cold as tommy stood outside his social workers car, waiting for her to get out of it. he shoved his hands into his jeans pockets but it didn’t really help.
tommy looked up at the house which stood before him. It was a two-story and was painted white. tommy didn’t like that colour. too bright. there was a pretty big front yard and it had a swing set though tommy was informed that there was an 17 and 18 year olds living here as-well as phil.the front porch was covered in different types of plants. Flowers to trees and vines crawling up the wall of the tall house.
the car door beside him opened and his moved aside, giving his social worker, Mary, room to get out. he ruffled his blonde hair and tried to make it sit right but it never would. his hair always had a way of sticking out and getting in his face. he used to get in a lot of trouble for it by a past foster parent, even when he didn’t intend to do it.
“right Tomathy!” Mary said in a way too happy tone which tommy loathed. “shall we make our way inside, Phil is waiting for us by the door now.”
tommy looked up and say a man, maybe in his late thirty’s early fourthy’s , standing at the door which was now open wide. he had a big smile on his face. great if this guy is even happier than Mary tommy is never going to survive. his hair was a dark blonde which fell to his shoulder. he was in plated pyjamas bottoms and a green hoodie.
mary tapped Tommy’s shoulder and urged him to walk up the driveway. he kept his head down, holding onto the straps of his red bag on his back, and slowly made his way up to the door.
“hello Tomathy, i’m Phil” Phil said smiling down at tommy.
“tommy” tommy told him. he hated when people called him Tomathy. he tried correcting Mary but she never listens to him.
“oh sorry, hello tommy. hello Mary” he nodded at Mary. “how about i take tommy inside and to bed and we can talk tomorrow. he looks exhausted.”
tommys head snapped up but he didn’t say anything. yes he was exhausted but he didn’t want anyone thinking he was weak. he was a big man after all.
“okay sure, i’ll talk to you tomorrow at around ten” Mary patted Tommy’s shoulder. “be good, i’m counting on you” she told him with a stern look before smiling again and heading back to her car.
tommy looked down at the wooden panels on the porch unsure on what to say now.
“well” Phil clapped his hands “we better get you to bet, i’m quare tired. they rang me at around 1 am for you so please don’t mind that your room isn’t fully ready. i was rushing” he said leading tommy into the entrance of the house.
tommy looked up at the clock which hung above a large golden mirror. 4 am. not too bad. he’d only been awake for 3 hours but he still needed to get some sleep.
“c’mon i’ll show you your room” Phil said making his way up the stairs. “if you need anything during the night don’t be afraid to come into my room, it the one at the very end, see?” he pointed to the end of the hall.
tommy nodded and Phil had stopped at the second door up stairs. he opened it and tommy followed him inside. the room was bigger than any other room he had before. usually he had to share with other kids in the house. there was empty
shelves and a plain bed and desk with nothing on it. it felt way to empty for tommy. it mad him uncomfortable.
“there’s a bag on the seat there filled up with items in it like toothpaste , deodorant etc. just in case you forgot to bring any.” Phil said twirling a blue chair around, revealing a green bag.
tommy nodded, eager to be left alone. he sat down on the bed as let his bag fall to the ground.there wasn’t much in it. just his phone, charger, book, cds, clothes and some other stuff. he was grateful for the bag Phil gave him. many homes never have him so much items, especially on his first night.
phil walked towards the door and made eye contact with tommy. “Wilbur and Techno, my sons, will be gone early in the morning so it’ll just be me and you for the majority of the day. we can go and pick out some stuff for you room to make it less dull looking if your up to it”
tommy nodded, grateful for the chance to make is room less unsettling for him. “thank you” he said before Phil gave him a warm smile and closed the door.
tommy then noticed that the door had a lock. he was stunned. in most homes, his past foster parents always used to take the lock, leaving him with no privacy at all.
he got up and locked his door , smiling when hearing a satisfying click. he pulled off his red converse and got into bed since he was already in his pyjamas.
he looked up at the ceiling for a while. could this home be different. probably not. all homes start off this way. the foster parents act like they love you and treat you amazing and then if you slip up or they get tired of you all hell breaks lose. lately tommy had been getting sick of the cycle, expecting what will come every time. Still, every time he moves to a new house, he thinks he has a chance and then he blows it. it hurts more than it should.
Tommy hoped it wouldn’t be the same with Phil but he still has this feeling he’s going to somehow fuck it all up like he always do. sure that’s what he is. a trouble kid.
tommy turned to his side, staring at the wall, thinking what this family is like. he knows that the oldest is Wilbur who is 18. that’s only 4 years older than him. and then there’s techno who 17. what a stupid name he thought
tommy finally allowed himself to fully relax, his body trying to relive all his aches and pains, and soon enough he drifted off into a deep sleep.
