Work Text:
You were bitting your lip so hard that you nearly drew blood. Holding your hand in the air with such tension, your arm and shoulders were beginning to hurt.
“That’s enough” Howl gently said, taking ahold of your wrist to lower your hand.
“I can’t do it” You tiredly said, slamming the spell book closed. “I’m not good enough for this”
“You’re not flawed, darling, you’re just a little underreherarsed” Much to your surprise, Howl stood behind you and placed his hands on your waist. “Think of it as dancing”
“What?” You uttered, looking over your shoulder to him and hoping you weren’t blushing.
“You need to let yourself go, enjoy the music” That said, Howl began swaying to a made up rhythm, moving you with him. “Magic is just like that, feel the magic”
Taking a deep breath, you tried to do as he said. A melody suddenly popped up in your head, encouraging you to dance despite the fact that you couldn’t actually hear it. It was probably different to the one that Howl had in his head, but the two of you still moved in coordination.
“Like this?”
“Yes, keep going!”
His smile encouraged you, all the more so when he lifted your hand over your head and twirled you to be facing him. Reciprocating the gesture, you smiled as you felt a special kind of magic blooming in your heart.
“That’s it” Howl nodded, grinning still. “Close your eyes and let yourself go”
You obliged once more, holding one hand in the air while the other softly squeezed Howl’s. That magic that began in your heart spread over to your entire being, ending in a tingling sensation at the end of your fingertips.
Howl suddenly gasped, causing you to open your eyes in startle. Your thoughts had been focused on the magic, heightened by the dance that helped the flow of the spell. When you looked at the empty pot you had been thinking about, you chuckled in awe upon seeing the beautiful flower that now occupied it.
“You did it!” Howl congratulated you, taking the flower and handing it to you.
“No, it was you!” You took it and smelled it, wondering in the fact that it did have a lovely scent. The spell had been perfectly successful.
“I didn’t do any magic, Y/N” He dedicated you the most charming smile you had ever seen. “It was all you”
You clutched the flower in your hand, watching him walk away as you thought… in a way, he had done some magic.
