Times were hard and danger was imminent. The only thing that could have made you feel more on edge was bumping into the one person that could break your perfectly calm demeanor. Jaskier de Lettenhove.
“Melitele…” You dramatically said, loudly sighing as you bumped your shoulder against the bard’s. “As if I didn’t have enough on my plate already, I need to deal with your insuferable presence”
“Well, look who it is” Jaskier tensed up, quickly turning around to face you and dedicating you a sarcastic smile. He looked to his friend the witcher, who stood next to him. “Geralt, what were you saying about the devil?”
“How witty, bard…” You rolled your eyes at him.
“You two know each other?” The witcher, who you had fought alongside with in the past, looked from one to the other.
“Unfortunately” Jaskier shook his head, crossing his arms over his chest and now refusing to look at you. “It’s not that I’m alive thanks to you, Y/N…”
“What happened?” The witcher curiously asked, the hint of an amused grin growing on his lips.
“Y/N left me for dead, Geralt!” The bard dramatically covered his eyes, almost as though the memory was far too much for him to handle. “Can you believe it? Had Melitely not taken mercy upon me, I would be dead!”
“I left you somewhere safe!” You exclaimed, exchanging an annoyed glance with the witcher. Geralt was listening to the conversation, but now it was him who crossed his arms, in utter amusement. “Jaskier, I had to leave you there because there were more important matters at hand!”
“More important than my life? Oh, please… you paint yourself as a white knight to save the world! How pretentious!”
“Me pretentious? I’m a mage, I’m-”
“You’re an annoyance! I can’t get rid of you! And just because you’re beautiful doesn’t mean you can-”
“Beautiful?” You interrupted him, since that was the very first nice thing he said to you. “Jaskier… you think I’m beautiful?”
“Fuck…” The two of them said at the same time, although Jaskier did in dread and Geralt in frustration. The witcher did in fact walk away and leave you alone with Jaskier.
“And here I thought you despised me…” You uttered, focusing on the bard still.
“I could never despise you…” Jaskier proudly said, averting his gaze. “It was just cold to abandon me like that…”
“I’m sorry…” You muttered, the words he had been waiting to hear. “I never meant to abandon you”
Finally, his beautiful blue eyes fell over you. The eye contact made you shudder, making you realize how important that stupid bard was to you. How you missed him whenever you were apart, despite being too proud to admit it even to yourself. How you felt drawn to him, connected to his heart as though destiny had bound you.
And then, before Jaskier could say anything in return, it arrived. The beast that Geralt had probably been there for. A powerful and meancing beast that was lurking and appeared behind Jaskier.
“No!” You took his hand and pulled as hard as you could, taking him away from harm’s way. Using your own body as a shield to protect him, you moved at the speed of lightning.
Everything happened quickly. On an instinct, you used your magic just as you threw your body to the ground, dragging Jaskier with you to safety. Using the chaos so recklessly had left you exhausted, but Geralt had luckily returned.
Knowing the witcher would dispatched the creature now, you peered at Jaskier underneath you. The sight you were received with made you shudder like before, with that strange feeling deep within your being that he confirmed with his words.
“I understand now…” Smiling in awe, Jaskier gingerly touched your face. “Why we’re always bumping into each other, why I can’t get you off my mind…”
“Why?” You gasped, completely lost in the sudden beauty of his eyes.
“You’re my destiny…”
