The Door

Summary:

Sapnap is stuck between a rock and a hard place. He fucked up really bad this time, and doesn’t know how to proceed.

Notes:

This is my secret santa for @antevault on Tumblr. I hope you enjoy this and DTeam shenanigans!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Sapnap stared at his door. It stared back. Well, metaphorically, as doors are inanimate objects and can’t stare back and even if it could Sapnap wouldn’t care because quite frankly it would be embarrassing to be intimidated by a door of all things even if the thing behind it could very easily be the thing that ends his life for good- he’s getting off-track.

That door was taunting him, mocking him, daring him to open it and cross through. Fuck. Nevermind his last comment about this stupid door. He’s not sure he has the guts to do it. With all his bravado and confidence, there were still things he feared above all. What lies out there is for sure one of them. He can admit that he’s afraid to see what lies beyond its borders. He glares at the door for acting as though it were a jailer. Just because he could (and because it would make him feel better), he flipped the door off, as if it’ll ward off his inevitable end. He had to leave sooner or later.

He turned to his computer and opened Discord.

‘george i'm calling you if you don’t answer you’re dead’

Sapnap gave George a few complementary seconds before pressing the green call button. He could be nice, see? Moments later, George’s face appeared on screen, Quackity off to the side scrolling on his phone. George had his headphones on. Good. Quackity didn’t need to hear about Sapnap’s cowardice just yet.

“What?” George was good at sounding annoyed, but Sapnap was a step further, having  already channeled all the little sibling energy he could for this moment. He pouted to the older. George raised an eyebrow, unimpressed.

“Georgeeeeee. I’m scared to leave my room.”

“You’re calling me for this?”

“Yes dude! This is serious. My life is in danger here.” Sapnap hoped he sounded like he was whining.

“Sounds like a you problem, Sapnap.” And Sapnap was about to retort, an insult on his lips when George leaned forward, hands on his desk and forgoing his teasing smirk. “What’d you do that’s got you so afraid?” George almost sounded genuine, staring at him so intently like that, and Sapnap almost lamented his mistakes and crimes to George until he squinted and saw the slight grin on the older’s face. Instantly, his pout changed to what was, in his opinion, the most betrayed look possible.

“Fuck off! You already know, don’t you? You’re really mocking me in my time of need? How could you! This is your betrayal arc. For shame. For shame!”

Sapnap glared more as George laughed, the stupid sound echoing through his own headphones. Quackity glanced up with a raised eyebrow, but Sapnap could see the grin growing on his face and he already knew George told and he ought to fly to Europe right now and punch that stupid smile off of George’s face-

“Why’d you even do it Sapnap? You knew better than everyone else what the consequences were if you didn’t, or rather, did succeed.”

“I had to survive , man. You knew what would’ve happened had I not! Your team literally did the same!”

“Yeah, because we were fighting to place, idiot. You weren’t. Your team had nothing to lose. You were guaranteed first no matter what you did.”

“Yeah, but what would’ve happened afterward?”

“Easy, my team would’ve gotten 2nd.”

“Uh-huh.” Sapnap crossed his arms. He couldn’t believe this. His own friend. His brother, someone he trusted , using his own pain against him like this. This world had really gone to shit huh?

“You better pray to Prime Sap, hopefully he’ll offer mercy to you.”

“What? George wait-“

“Or maybe he won’t. Prime was created by him and Tommy anyways.”

“He doesn’t believe in Prime-“

“That’s what they all say, Sappy.”

“George! You’ve gotta help me-“

“No I don’t. Sucks to suck Sapnap this is your fault don’t drag me into this and don’t call me again bye!” And just like that, Sapnap was left to stare at the “Call Ended” screen. The fucker even had the audacity to wave and grin as he rushed through his sentence. Sapnap couldn’t even be angry for long, and deflated in his chair.

He really was a fool for messing with fate, huh? His team would’ve been fine too! Take out George’s team, have some shits and giggles about it later on, and avoid signing his death sentence. He should’ve just moved on, hoping it wouldn’t have bit him in the ass in the future because that would’ve been so much preferable to this fear that crawled through his veins, creeping around the edges with no respite or mercy for anything that stood in its path.

Sapnap turned to the door. It stood, unrelenting. He had to go. It was now or never. The longer he sat here, the worse his punishment would be. If he faced it now, surely, surely, he could get off with a lighter sentence. He could plead, right? Get on his hands and knees maybe, and beg for mercy like a foolish jester to his king. He didn’t want to, it would be embarrassing, but it would work right? What else could he offer anyway? Gifted subs? No, the fucker barely streams as is! Money? Like that would go over well. Offer to do the chores? Have their characters reconciled on the SMP? He was so, utterly fucked, wasn’t he?

“I can do this, I can do this I ca-“

There was a ping. Sapnap turned to his computer idly, ready to berate whoever had decided to abuse their @everyone command, only to freeze.

It was a DM from Dream. Shit.

Sapnap would never admit that he had to hype himself up to open the chat log. Never. That’s something he’s taking to his fucking grave if he has anything to say about it.

‘are you still hiding? :)”

Fuck this. Fuck Dream. He was going to kick himself out. How hard could it be to-

Another ping.

“you have 45 seconds to be downstairs”

That settled it. Nearly falling from his chair, Sapnap scrambled out the door and to the kitchen. At least Dream had the power to get him outside his room, even if it was for…less than savory reasons.

He didn’t even wait to get to the kitchen before the begging started. “Look, Dream, I can explain, just hear me out. I- it wasn’t just my decision, your team was very strong and-“

“Sapnap? Dude, chill. I just made dinner. Sit and eat. I’m not that mad at you, okay? We can talk about your… crimes, later. Sound good with you?” And Sapnap could’ve cried from relief. He was so lucky to have someone like Dream who was so kind and forgiving and-

Dream glanced up from his plate, an eyebrow raised. “Hopefully you’ve already started packing. It’ll make things easier.” Sapnap choked.

“Wh- DREAM?!”

Notes:

Poor Sapnap, honestly.

Boy oh boy when MCC19 ended I just knew I had to make a fic for this and make it as dramatic as possible. It’s probably a bit OOC but at the same time not. None of this is serious, and I sincerely doubt any of this happened IRL. Fanfiction is fanfiction for a reason. Merry Christmas to everyone and to antevault, I hope you enjoy your gift!

If there’s any mistakes, no there aren’t <3
