Ah, Finally..!
Byleth pulls the tray of festive shaped sugar cookies out of the oven, setting them carefully on the stove top to cool for frosting and decorating.
Baking wasn’t Byleth’s strongest skill, but it didn’t stop him from at least trying. Especially with Daisy’s encouragement and excitement about the fun they could have with decorating the cookies echoing in his mind. It was all he needed to knead up some sugary dough and cut them into shapes of trees and little gingerbread (or in this case sugar cookie) persons, while Daisy went out to fetch frosting and sprinkles.
It made Byleth look back at his job well done. The dozen tree and cookie men came out quite nicely for him being a rookie, plus it left the delightful aroma of freshly baked cookies lingering around the entire apartment.
The baking did come with its downside of having to clean up the disaster that was left in the kitchen, however.
And with that in mind, Byleth got started by tossing every dirty utensil and cooking tool into the kitchen sink to clear the island counter and to prepare the dishes for cleaning later, the last dish standing being the bowl and spoon that had been used to mix the sugar cookie dough.
Looking at it, the professor couldn’t resist the temptation to have a taste of the golden leftover dough as he walked by the abandoned bowl. Byleth takes the wooden spoon that sat in the bowl and helps himself to a taste of a small sample of his homemade dough.
“B I’m baaack!” He hears a chipper voice call from the living room. He tosses the spoon into the sink and turns around to find Daisy in the entryway of the kitchen, carrying grocery bags filled with what Byleth assumed were the Christmas colored sprinkles and frosting they had needed for their cookies, “Sorry I took so long!”
“You’re actually right on time. The cookies just got done baking,” Byleth announces with a small but proud smile on his face. He leaned against the counter behind him, watching the princess remove her coat and boots and slide into her fluffy cream house shoes. Daisy leans against the the entryway, arms crossed, shooting the taller a look.
“Sheesh B…” she snickers.
“What?”
“You sure were busy in this kitchen, huh?” The mercenary watched Daisy’s eyes scan his entire body, prompting him to look down at himself; his exposed arms and apron had been covered in flour and smeared dough. He had been more reckless in the kitchen than he thought…
“O.. Oh! I guess I hadn’t noticed,”
“Heh, Yeah. You even got a little on your face,” she points out. Daisy gestures Byleth to come closer. “Here, lemme get it since your hands are all floured up,”
Byleth steps forward for the princess, slightly bending his knees to appropriately meet her level. “I appreciate–“
Byleth’s words were interrupted when his stained apron was suddenly yanked by Daisy, forcing his knees to buckle to her height. His widened eyes were left to witness the brunette smacking her lips into his, forming a tender, yet sudden kiss. He was left little room to process it all, but shortly, Byleth calms down from the shock, and reciprocated her embrace, bringing his hands to cup the princess’ face while at the same time being careful not to leave behind any marks of flour.
He feels Daisy withdraw then, Byleth’s eyes slowly fluttering back open to the smiling face he had grown familiar with just inches apart from his.
“What was that for..?” he questions, appreciative, but still confused by the sudden affectionate exchange.
Daisy only points upward, Byleth following her index to find a small mistletoe had been dangling right above the two of them atop the kitchen entryway.
“T’is the season, cutie,” Daisy says, giving his cheek a light tap before parting ways and going into the kitchen with their cookie toppings.
Daisy then turns back to the professor and slightly cocks her head.
“By the way, that cookie dough tastes great.”
