Chapter Text
“Hey, friend!” Sundrop greeted happily. He took a break from all his energetic running and jumping around and did his best to calmly sit down in a crisscross position across from the kid he was talking to. “You’re not having fun, are ya?” He whispered.
The child’s head was buried between their knees. They sniffled and gave a muffled response, “It’s too loud in here.”
Sun brought a hand up and scratched the top of his head. “Hmm… yeah it is pretty loud in here.” He looked to his right, to his left, and back again. “What do you say to a puppet show? I have a really really REALLY fun one planned for later today, but if you want, I can do it early.”
“No.” Said the kid, pulling his knees in closer.
“OH! I know just what you need!” Said Sunny happily. He jumped up in the air with excitement saying, “I’ll be right back. Stay here for me.” Then he skipped off in the direction of a nearby storage room.
However, as he reached for the doorknob, he heard the daycare security guard call his name.
“Sundrop!” She said sternly. She approached him slowly while shaking her head back and forth in disapproval. “We’ve been over this. You’re not allowed in the back anymore. Not after last time.” She said.
Sun hung his head in disappointment. “Oh…”
The guard sighed. “Alright fine. I’ll just go back there for you instead. What do you need?”
Minutes later, Sundrop returned to his new friend holding a pair of yellow headphones. They looked up at him as he explained what they were.
“If you put these on, it should make everything a lot quieter.” He said, extending his hand out, offering them to the kid.
Hesitant at first, the curious child sniffled once more, took the headphones and slipped them over their ears.
Sun waited patiently to see their reaction, and at first they were blank faced, but he’d already noticed a difference. Sundrop watched as his friend slowly calmed down, staying with them the whole time just to make sure they were okay. Then later he helped teach them some useful breathing exercises to use for the next time they got this upset, and the kid even practiced them with him. Despite the fact that Sundrop wasn’t technically able to breathe, he did his best to make do. Instead, he just went, “In in in in in in in in- out out out out out out out out- in in in in in in in in-“ and so on.
“Thank you, Sundrop. You’re my favorite.” Said the child once the two were finished.
Sun yelled out an excited, “Thank you!!! Now let’s go play!”
The kid smiled almost as wide as Sundrop, if that’s even possible, when the bubbly animatronic scooped them up and started giving them a piggy back ride over to the ballpit.
This is why Sun loved the daycare… and why he was so good at his job.
