Work Text:
In the dark, quiet hours of dawn, Viktor awoke to the bed dipping behind him. Forcing himself to blink the sleep away, he craned his neck slightly only to be met with a pair of lips grazing his cheek.
“Sorry, Viktor. I didn’t mean to wake you,” Jayce grumbled, voice husky with exhaustion. “It’s still dark, get back to sleep.”
“Why are you up so late?” Viktor asked, turning over to face the larger man. Jayce was stripped down to a simple black pair of slacks, hair damp with shower water. Viktor inhaled, enjoying the scent of shampoo and his lover’s close proximity. “Our next assignment is not due for another three weeks. It’s too early to pull all-nighters.”
“You’re one to talk,” Jayce responded, offering an easy grin. It was just so simple for him to smile at Viktor like that. “You did one less than a week ago.”
“Had to. Heimerdinger requested a brief showing of that… what did we call it?” It was too early (or late, Viktor wasn’t sure) to think too hard about anything.
“Don’t remember, but I know what you’re talking about.”
“Yes, thank you,” Viktor mumbled, scooting closer to Jayce’s body. His partner seemed to emit an unnatural amount of body heat, sometimes to the point of removing their blanket. That night, however, it felt perfect. Smooshing his face into Jayce’s chest, Viktor continued. “Anyway, that was important. I missed you.”
“I missed you as well, but this is important too,” Jayce huffed, though not unkindly. “It’s best to get a strong early start, especially considering our clients.”
Viktor scoffed, closing his eyes and focusing on the steady beating of Jayce’s heart. Clients, clients, who even were they trying to impress anymore? Mentally, Viktor made a note to talk to Jayce on his issues with needing everyone to like him… again.
“Tell them to get other magic scholars if they don’t like the potential of extended deadlines. Now, you sound tired, I am also tired. Why don’t we get some sleep while we can?”
“Of course,” Jayce said as he finally wrapped his arms loosely around Viktor’s thin frame. “Sorry again for waking you.”
“It is fine. Goodnight, Jayce.”
“Goodnight, my dearest Viktor.”
