Wiltshire - Malfoy Estate
“Hermione says it makes it special. Hermione says magic takes the fun out of it,” he grumbled. “Well, Granger never had to try and wrap a child-sized Nimbus without magic!”
“Draco, are you complaining again?” Ginny called from the kitchen.
“No Red, I am just saying that just because Granger says it is a good idea doesn’t mean that it is a good idea for everyone.”
“Well, I love wrapping our daughters’ presents every year. It is a great tradition that we have as a family. Remember when we decided to muggle wrap each others’ gifts our first Christmas together?” She told him sweetly.
Flashback
December 24, 2000
“Hey Red, you ready for dinner? Scarhead and Granger will be waiting on us!” Draco called from the sitting room of their home. They had only been married a few days, having married on the Winter Solstice as per pureblood traditions. They decided to meet Harry and Hermione for dinner to celebrate Christmas because they were going to be at the Grangers for Christmas Day while Ginny and Draco left on their honeymoon to Wizarding Greece.
“DO NOT come in here! I am almost done wrapping your presents” Ginny called.
“You better hurry up because I am coming in!” Draco said, curious to see what she had bought him. As he opened the door he said “I cannot believe you convinced me to wrap presents the muggle way. It is just so common.”
“Do not act all high and mighty Draco Malfoy. You are not above wrapping presents for your family and friends! It makes it special!” Ginny chided as she pushed the last present she had wrapped into a pile and shrank the ones with Harry and Hermione’s names on them to take to dinner.
Ginny stood up while Draco vanished the pieces of wrapping paper and tape on the floor. As he pulled her into his embrace he soothed her “I know, I know. Granger says that it means more when they are wrapped without magic. It just takes so much time that could be spent doing other fun newlywed activities.”
She laughed a deep belly laugh as she pushed away his leering advances to cup his cheek and look up into those gray eyes that caught her attention the year after the war in a rebuilt Hogwarts. “Just imagine love, sitting together in a few years, wrapping presents for our kids. Making this a family tradition that is special just for us.” Ginny said as she kissed him sweetly.
“Alright, a new tradition for the Malfoy family, wrapping gifts the muggle way. You know I can’t deny you anything.” Draco said as he held her close.
“Ready to see Harry and Hermione? I have a feeling they are going to announce their engagement tonight!” Ginny said excitedly.
“Well it’s about time,” Draco said exasperatedly, “They have been dancing around each other for too long.”
Present Day
“Yes love, I remember,” Draco said with a sigh. “What I didn’t take into account was wrapping brooms and quidditch kits the muggle way!”
“I am sure we can figure it out,” Ginny said, sitting next to him and laying her head on his shoulder. “Lyra will be so excited to open up her broom and Holyhead Quidditch kit tomorrow morning that she won’t care how the wrapping looks.”
Ginny was right, Lyra Narcissa Malfoy only cared that she got her new broom and a Quidditch kit with her mom’s number and the name Malfoy across the back. Her parents sat and watched as she excitedly put the jersey on and ran to show her Nana Cissy all her new gifts.
