Enjoy!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

San and Yeosang are sitting next to each other on top of the monkey bars at the park. San had asked him to come out and meet him here so they can ring in the New Year together (away from Wooyoung’s loud nagging). Yeosang had agreed without a second thought. They are both wrapped up in warm jackets and scarves. Yeosang has a hat on and San has his hands shoved in his pockets. In his one pocket, he has his fingers intertwined with Yeosang’s. They were sharing San’s pocket while their shoulders are pressed together.

“Are you cold?” San asks with a wide smile on his face, dimples on full display. Despite everything that had happened and all the time, they had spent together, one smile from San still sent Yeosang’s heart into a frenzy.

“No, your hand is keeping me warm,” Yeosang says and San rolls his eyes but his smile only gets bigger.

“You’re cringy,” San says and nudges him with his shoulder and Yeosang laughs.

“You can’t stay that when you tell me you love me, every chance you get,” Yeosang says with a roll of his eyes and San pouts.

“You don’t want to hear it?” San asks in a whiney tone as his pout grows.

Yeosang laughs and pats San’s head with his other hand. San leans into his touch as he starts to run his fingers through San’s hair. Yeosang laughs when he can almost hear San purring as he used to when he was still a cat.

The fact that his crush was his pet cat had been a big shock for Yeosang but he was glad that he was able to help San break the curse. Sometimes he wonders if all of this is just a fever dream. No one would ever believe them if they told their story and they would probably be considered crazy but that didn’t matter. Yeosang was happy with San and that was all that really mattered at the end of the day.

It had been a crazy year.

Yeosang laughs.

“What are you laughing about?” San asks as places his head on Yeosang’s shoulder.

“About, how you still act like a cat,” Yeosang says and San being his playful self he and meows at him.

“You were adorable as a cat,” Yeosang says and San is pouting again.

“Am I not adorable anymore?” San asks and Yeosang’s heart does a little flip.

“San-ah, you are adorable,” Yeosang says and brushes the hair away from San’s face before his hand runs down to cup his cheek. “And you are wonderful, kind, and oh so handsome,” Yeosang adds and he can see the way San’s eyes light up, and the pout gets replaced by his signature smile.

Yeosang thinks that he can just stay right here looking at San's smile for the rest of his life.

Alas, San’s ego ruins the moment.

“I already knew all those things, thank you very much,” San says with a cheeky smile and Yeosang scoffs as he rolls his eyes.

“Way to ruin the moment.”

“You’re the one who fell in love with this adorable, wonderful, kind, and handsome young fellow,” San says as he sticks his tongue out.

“I regret it.”

San gasps so loudly he almost falls off of the monkey bars. He had been swinging his legs happily and that probably didn’t help the situation. Luckily, Yeosang moved quickly and gripped San’s hand, and held him by his waist.

“Careful,” Yeosang says and pulls San closer to him making San blush.

“Y— that was mean!,” San cries out with a pout as he looks away from Yeosang.

Yeosang laughs and squeezes his hand, which was still linked.

“You know I was joking, Sannie,” Yeosang coos at San but San stands his ground. “I never regret loving you from a distance and I never regret picking you up and taking you home that rainy day. I was so happy to have you in my life and I am even happier that you’re mine,” Yeosang adds and his free hand holds San’s chin gently. “Look at me, Sannie,” Yeosang adds, and for a second Yeosang thinks that he will have to fight a bit more.

“Are you really happy with me?” San asks, pout still plastered on his face.

San’s question takes him by surprise.

“Of course, why wouldn’t I be happy with you?” Yeosang asks as his eyebrows pull together into a frown.

“I spent so long thinking you were in love with someone else…this thing we have…sometimes feels like it’s just a dream…” San trails off. He looks a little sad and all Yeosang wants to do is gather San up in his arms and shower him in hugs and kisses.

“Sometimes, I think this is just a dream too but then I wake up next to you or I see you waiting for me at uni and I just know that this is all real and I am so happy…you make me so happy, San,” Yeosang says before he finally let’s go on San’s hand. He cups San’s face and pulls him closer. Yeosang rests his forehead on San’s. “I love you, San, and I want to be with you forever,” Yeosang whispers before pulling San in for a soft kiss.

Just as their lips meet, the fireworks go off signifying the end of a year and the beginning of the next.

What a perfect way to end and start a year, Yeosang thinks as he kisses San.

Their lips fit perfectly as Yeosang kisses San slowly and softly. Yeosang takes his time so he can show San just how much he means to him. San’s hands find their way around Yeosang’s neck and one of San’s hands snakes up into Yeosang’s hair. He tugs it gently to pull Yeosang closer and to deepen the kiss.

In contrast to Yeosang’s slow and gentle kiss, San’s kisses are more eager and in the few months they had been together, Yeosang found it so easy to melt into San’s kisses. San draws small circles on the back of Yeosang’s neck and Yeosang giggles a little as he is a little ticklish. San laughs into the kiss too before they finally pull away.

Both of them are breathing heavily, foreheads still pressed tougher. San’s eyes as closed while Yeosang’s eyes flutter open slowly. He takes his time watching San and he is once again reminded how thankful he is to that one rainy day when he had encountered San, the cat. Yeosang brushes San’s hair away from his face and then traces his fingertips against the counters of San’s face.

San was so beautiful and Yeosang cannot help but be mesmerised.

His hand eventually rests on San’s chest.

Then he rubs his nose against San’s.

San lets out a soft giggle and Yeosang is also laughing.

“Happy New Year, San.”

“Happy New Year, Yeosang.”

Their lips meet again for another kiss, both of them knowing that the new year would bring new opportunities for them to grow together and get to know each other more as they had only started this journey. However, they were sure of one thing, in the end, they belonged together.

The End.

Notes:

Okay, I am kind of sad that this has come to an end but I am happy with how things have all been tied up, I don't think there are any loose ends. Or I hope anyway, lol.

I hope you enjoyed this series. I really enjoyed writing it and I was surprised at how many people actually liked the original story so I just ended up adding more and more. Anyway, thank you so much for tagging along for San's Cat Adventures. Maybe...I have plans for another SanSang where one of them is possibly a shapeshifter but who knows what will happen to that.

Anyway, hope you all have had a lovely holiday season and hope you will have a nice New Year too! Bye!
