Work Text:
“Hak, I know you’re broke as fuck, but, really?”
“At least I don’t have a sugar daddy,” Haknyeon stuck out his tongue to Sunwoo who’s playing some games in his phone.
Realizing something, Sunwoo paused his game and smacked Haknyeon. “I swear to God, can you, like, STOP slandering me for this one?” he groaned. “Seriously, don’t you want to have a boy or girlfriend and spent the whole christmas eve with them? ISN’T THERE ANY INTENTION OF YOU TO DO THAT, OTHER THAN JUST DISTURBING ME EVERY SINGLE HOLIDAY?”
“It’s not that I don’t want it. It’s crazy, you know, thinking something that I won’t get any boy or girlfriend,” Haknyeon wore his santa hat and the beard “THE WHOLE PROBLEM IS THAT EVERYONE DON’T WANT ME AS THEIR BOYFRIEND,”
“Says the one who rejects a lot of both boys and girls at the campus,” Sunwoo sneered. “And now, you’re single as frick in this beautiful night,”
“AT THIS MOMENT, YOU'RE SINGLE TOO, MOTHERFUCKER,”
“I’m not single,” Sunwoo stuck out his tongue back to him. “Sangyeon’s abroad, and we’re going to facetime each other after this anyway,” he mocked his smile to Haknyeon.
“The usual facetime or the sexy-“
“Say that once again and you’re dead,” Sunwoo covered Haknyeon’s mouth, before dragging him to the door, half dislodged him to just go to his ‘workplace’ this night. “Go. Get that cash for your own game voucher,”
“Oguoguoguuuu~ Nunu’s sulky~ because Hakkie will go to work~,”
“Try saying that again,” Sunwoo posed like he’s going to throw his flip flops, making Haknyeon ran away too fast from their shared apartment.
Complaining a little bit about the (slightly) hot weather today, Haknyeon sweared. He’s sure that he watch today’s forecast and they said it will be cold enough. “If only had I known this,” he gritted his teeth. “I would be bringing my own sleeveless shirt, fuck,” he muttered under his breath, while still promoting the gift store behind him.
“Excuse me,”
And Haknyeon jumped, then sweared at whoever’s successfully poked his back. Haknyeon’s almost smacked the stranger, but blatantly undoing whatever he’s gonna do to them when he saw the person who poked his back. “Um, what can I do to help you?”
“Ung,” the boy in front of him played with his finger hesitantly. “Can you give me suggestion for a christmas present?”
“Mmm? You’re not going back outside?”
Haknyeon showed the white envelope. “I’m done,” he answered. “And you? Have you done shopping for your cats?”
“There’s too many choices here, and I want to buy everything for them,” he said. “But I decided to buy these three,”
Haknyeon nodded understandingly. “Three cats, right?” and the boy nodded. “Alone in the christmas eve, I guess?”.
The boy chuckled. “I think the same for you, christmas eve and doing part-time work. I think you don’t have someone to spent this night with,”
Haknyeon nodded and the boy looked like he’s gonna pop out his eyes. “We haven’t introduce ourselves, right? I'm Ju Haknyeon,” and offered his hands to the boy.
“Choi Chanhee,” Chanhee scoffed. “Don’t try to hide from my question. Are you serious enough you don’t have someone to spent the whole Christmas with? Like, you’re handsome and shit but … really?”
Haknyeon nodded again. “Even my roommate's constantly teasing me about this anyway,”
“We’re just the same, I think,” Chanhee said sadly. One moment passed and his face suddenly light up. “I have a great idea, how about we spent the whole night together?”
“We?”
Chanhee nodded vigorously. “Well, I hated spending the whole christmas alone, it’ll be better if I look like I spent this year with someone rather than being known spending this alone,” he smiled widely. “You … didn’t want it, right?” and the next moment he sulked.
“Aren’t you afraid of me? A complete stranger? Like I can kill you anytime??”
Chanhee laughed. “You’re a nice person,” he said. “If you’re not you won’t help me choosing something for my cats, and you will just kill me on the spot anyway,”
Haknyeon’s face reddened. “I don’t think I tried to help you choose something,”
Chanhee laughed. “It’s okay, I appreciate that you’re trying to keep a safe distance between us,” and said, “Now, I need your answer,”
Haknyeon thought about it a little bit, and, “Okay,”
“So, that’s the story-Eh, Haknyeon’s sending me some messages, you wanna see some dumb shit he did today?” Sunwoo offered to his boyfriend at the face time call. His boyfriend just looked at him curiously, hoping for him to just read the message from Haknyeon out loud.
“I wanna see,” with giggling, Sunwoo’s boyfriend asking him to just read it loudly.
“Nu, I think I’m gonna come so late, I’m with a penguin who lost his way,” Sunwoo read it to his boyfriend, who’s just looking at him so lovingly from his screen, and Sunwoo’s eyes widened when he saw the photo Haknyeon sent. “HOW COME HE’S WITH CHANHEE NOW? LIKE LOOK, ISN’T THIS CHANHEE, THOUGH, SANGYEON HYUNG?”
Sangyeon came closer to see the photo better, and his face immediately change to his usual mischievous face. “How come they’re togheter? I thought he ran away when I want to introduce Chanhee to him,”
“Let’s just pray for the best anyway, they look good together,”
"Cat!" Chanhee squealed and checking his surroundings, looking for another cat, but he can only found a cat that's meowing in front of him. "You're lost, I think," and he picked up it, started to look for his collar but he can't find any. "Well, lost and no owner. Great, you wanna hold him? I'll look for something inside my bag," Chanhee offered to Haknyeon, and Haknyeon delightly carried it up.
With Haknyeon carrying the cat, Chanhee started looking for something inside his bag, and his face lit up when he pull out a snack from his bag. "Do you always bring something for these stray cats?"
Chanhee nodded, and he opened the snack package, and letting the cat licks the snack. "They're just ... I don't know, so fragile yet I can't really rescue them. You know, having three cats is really good, but when you're not really available almost all the time at your house, also me being very busy at this moment for college, well," Chanhee shrugged. "I really want to rescue them, but, well, college's stressing me enough. And, my friends is allergic to their fur, I can't just ask them to take care of my cats,"
"Well, you can just ask me to take care of them while you're away," Haknyeon blurted out, and Chanhee's giving a strange look to Haknyeon. "Well, you're busy, I need some more money to feed myself, didn't that sounds promising enough?"
Chanhee's silent. They can only hear the cat licking the snack till the finish, and some 'meows' escalated, giving Chanhee a notice that the cat had finished the snack. "I guess that was a bad idea, they're not used to me yet," Haknyeon said, checking the cat if it had some leftover on its mouth.
"No, no, no," Chanhee rushed to dispose the snack, and shook his head vigorously. "It's actually a good idea, and you can get used to them, like, in two days," he assured him. "You want to come to my apartment? To get used to them?"
