Work Text:
Snow. An annoying thing that happens every year but as a demon who has lived to see thousands of snow falls, the white cold substance has lost its luster. It’s just another season. That is, before Rin came into my life. Ten years have pasted since that moment.
She has this way about her that makes everything look and seem like a glorious time. Her smiling face always pulls me in. Not that I have ever said those words, nor do I need to. Rin knows what kind of hold she has on me. She allows me to relax. Maybe that’s how she convinced me to come on this walk with her.
The snow is softly falling around us as we walk on the outskirts of her village. The silence is comfortable and light. Her arm is wrapped loosely around mine.
“Were you able to make warm enough clothing from the cloth I brought you?”
“Oh, yes! Thank you so much my lord.” Rin beamed. I nodded. Welcoming the warmth that her smile brings me. “I had enough left over I was able to make you something.”
Before I can tell her it’s not necessary, Rin brings out a long purple cloth.
“Kagome helped me make it! It’s called a scarf. It’s supposed to help keep you warm. I hope that’s true.” She reaches up and drapes the cloth around my neck. “It looks terrific on you my lord.”
Her smile only grows larger. It’s radiating heat. I step forward and engulf her to my body, she melts into my embrace.
“Thank you. I will keep it close.”
Stepping away, her brown eyes shine into mine. She leans into me once more, sighing softly.
“I think this season is my favorite.”
“Why is that?” I ask before I can stop myself.
“The snow reminds of you.”
“Cold and harsh?”
“No, my lord! I would never think that of you!” She exclaims, looking earnest. I feel my heart twinge from guilt.
“I’m teasing you Rin.”
A look of relief washes over her face. Cupping her chin, I gently lift her head. Her cheeks are aflame. She looks angelic in this moment. Before I can think better of it I lean in and give her a searing kiss. Rin turns into a puddle. Wrapping my other arm around her waist I allow her to give in completely.
Pulling away I see that she is stunned for a moment before she pulls me in for another kiss. For a few minutes it feels like spring. The snow seems to have melted away because there is no space for cold between the two of us.
We both stop, breathing deeply. Rin closes her eyes and places her forehead against mine.
“Rin. Are you not going to tell me why I resemble snow?”
Slowly her eyes open, staying on the cloth she had gifted to me before meeting my gaze. Another radiant smile blooms on her face.
“Snow and my lord are calming and make me feel at peace with the world. You are beautiful and still. But unlike snow, I get to have you all to myself. Which I am extremely thankful.”
“Hm.”
“I hope I didn’t upset you my lord!” Rin exclaims. Worry etched across her face. I find myself almost smiling.
“No. I was just thinking if I’m your snow. You are my sun.”
“M-my lord?”
“You light up any place you go. Your smile puts the sun to shame. Rin. You keep me warm and I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have that warmth.”
Tears start to well up in her eyes. Once more I pull her to my body and shield her from the cold. Her body is starting to shiver and I realize we’ve been out here for a little to long. Without another thought I picked Rin up like a bride, my bride and took her back to the village.
“Get inside Rin. Before you catch cold.” I explained, while putting her down.
“Thank you lord Sesshomaru.” Rin looks up at me with a sincere look. “Until next time my lord. I will be praying for your health and safe travels.”
She gives me one last kiss the cheek before going inside. I stand there in awe of the woman that she has turned into. Turning away, I start my trek out of the village once more. Slightly warmer from the cloth that Rin had made. For the first time in over a century I am reminded of the calming affect snow has.
